“Quiet little hideaway in Venice….”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

We stayed at Ca' Barba from October 5th to the 7th. Our room was very comfortable and clean, complete with a desk/chair and a large closet. There are 4 rooms in total and a shared kitchen/dining area. There was also access to complimentary soft drinks, bottled water, milk and fruit.

Alessandro's love and passion for Venice is infectious, and he made us feel very welcome. He lent us 2 books on the day of our arrival, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading “Venice is a fish” by Tiziano Scarpa. Trust Alessandro when he says: "Throw away the map and get lost in Venice…!” That was the best advice ever; we didn’t fall into the touristy traps and discovered a side of Venice that you can only experience by strolling the alleyways. He suggested that we visit the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, views from the top of the bell tower are by far the best in Venice.

When you need to get somewhere specific, Alessandro has an amazing talent at drawing perfect and precise little maps.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ca' Barba. Grazie mille Alessandro!

Even before we got to the B&B Alessandro's communication via email was very good. There was a public transport strike on the day we arrived, however Alessandro our host contacted us with alternative directions and met us at the waterbus stop. This was invaluable as we arrived at night and negotiating the streets in the dark would have been tricky. The room 102 was very clean with everything you could need including WiFi which proved very useful. The breakfast was lovely a combination of various croissants, rolls and toast. Also Alessandro gave us some good advice and tips for travelling around; his suggestion for dinner was La Bitta in Dosodoro which was fabulous! However be warned Venice is more expensive to eat out than the UK due to having a first and second course. I highly recommend that if you stay in Venice you stay at Ca'Barba.

Wonderful room, great location in the heart of Venice. Alessandro is a fantastic host and takes great care to ensure that your visit to Venice is memorable. With only 4 rooms it is very intimate yet also very private for a romantic holiday.

Venice proved to be the most difficult place for us to find a hotel. We traveled through 6 different cities on our Italian honeymoon and Venice was the last. So many hotels and B&Bs were overpriced, looked small, and most were booked already, even three months out! But the time and effort it took to find Ca' Barba was SO worth it. The rooms are incredibly clean, beautifully appointed, and feel just modern enough. The location is ideal - a small side street in the center of it all. And breakfast was divine. But above all, Alessandro made our stay absolute perfection. Listen to him - he will do the same for you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ca' Barba. It is attractive and well appointed and the location is wonderful. Just around the corner from a lively morning fish market and delightful neighbourhood bars and restaurants. The Rialto bridge is just blocks away as is the water bus and Traghetti. Alessandro, our host was, was so helpful. He not only suggested an affordable garage for us to park our rental car, he also came up with many day trips for us with excellent directions and bus routes and he also provided us with books about Venice and it's history.

Room Tip: Take a room on the upper floor. We could hear the guests above us once in a while. Not a big deal, t...

We stayed at Ca' Barba for 3 nights in September 2013 and continue to talk about the many fond memories we had there.....and to be honest, it was all thanks to the host, Alessandro! We booked with him after reading the many great reviews on Tripadvisor, and I can tell you they weren't wrong! Alessendro's love and passion for Venice is contagious and his gracious and humble manor makes you feel truely welcome and at home.
Alessandro was so helpful and collected us from the vaporetto stop which is a 1-2minute walk from the B&B and made getting every where really easy!! I think it would have been hard to find if he hadn't collected us as it is down a narrow alley way with no signage. However behind the unassuming door you are welcomed into his beautiful B&B. He provided us with 2 of his favourite books about Venice and then kindly sat with us to talk about where would be the best spots to go that day. He then continued to do this each day at breakfast time. Each of his suggestions were spot on!! I know that our views of Venice would have been quite different if we remained within the typical and very busy touristy spots. Trust Alessandro and as he would say "throw away the map and be a smart tourist".
Alessandro has an eye for interior design and a gift of hospitality. He has put the B&B together beautifully and with only 4 rooms and a shared kitchen/dining area, it feels very homely. The room was very comfortable and clean. Large, comfortable bed and HUGE jacuzzi bath. There was also access to complimentary soft drinks, bottled water, milk and fruit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ca' Barba and thank Alessandro for his warm and generous spirit. My parents in law have even booked for next year due to our great experience.
Believe it or not, my rave review is still not doing it justice!!

We stayed in Alessandro's B&B for 2 nights and highly recommend it. The rooms was clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities of a full service hotel. Our rooms were even cleaned! The location was great. Away from the crowds and madness but close enough that you can still walk to all the sights. The best part was that it was walking distance to many great "off the beaten path" restaurants like Dos Spados. Alessandro took the time to explain the city and how to get the most out of it. He gave us the best hand-drawn maps which we plan to keep for future visits. Finally, he makes the best espressos and cappuccinos for breakfast.
