Description: Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco is an upmarket, romantic restaurant in very cool style that enjoys a high-flying gastronomic reputation. The vaulted dining room is decorated in sophisticated terracotta and black with impressive shining globe lighting. The bar is wittily decorated with dressmakers’ forms and sexy corsets – great conversation starters. The menu is classically-inspired Venetian of a high order, focusing on things from the sea and changing every two months to take advantage of the and array of the freshest ingredients in true Italian style and pastas and desserts are all made in-house. In warm weather the dining room sprawls out onto the adjoining campiello for the loveliest al fresco dining anywhere – the Venetians who crowd Ai Mercanti certainly think so.

We ate here based on Trip Advisor recommendations and it was by far the best meal of our trip. Beautiful decor, great atmosphere. The waiter recommended the perfect wine to compliment our mains (reasonably priced for Venice). The seafood was beautifully presented and innovative (turbot with capers in butter, walnuts, crispy seafood and a tomato sorbet for example). Dont miss chocolate interpretations for dessert, delicious!

It is unusual to find a lovely restaurant in San marco area. Our meal was freshly cooked and presented to prefection at a very reasonable price for Venice standards. The warm bread kept on being replenished without even asking for more...and not charged which is very rare. The service can be improved with a friendly smile but overall highly recomend this establishment for an exceptional meal.

the food is tasty and elegantly served. we ordered a bottle of Grillo, and it was ok. We particularly enjoyed the home made bread and crackers. the only sore spot is that the seats are so tightly spaced you end up sitting closer to the stranger beside you than your own dining partner...

After a run-of-the-mill tourist influenced dinner the night before, we consulted tripadvisor for help and found a reviewer who had experienced similar woeful touristy meal and then found Ai Mercanti. So four of us took this advice, checked the place out by day and made a booking. This was a true restaurant with creative and superbly cooked food. All four of us were delighted with our meals and walked away saying what a find it had been. Proved reading tripadvisor is very worthwhile. Highly recommend if you want to get away from the nonsense that is served in the more touristy parts. Not for you if you are looking for pizza and pasta.

It's hard to find a place in Venice, such Ai Mercanti. It's a lot of people everywhere, especially at that area (San Marco). Restaurants there are just for one visit (you have to avoid places with more than 3-languages menus!!!). But if you drop in AI Mercanti you will be surprised. It's not a place where you've been before. Location is perfect, close to walking streets, but it's in courtyard, not crowded. Modern italian cuisine, with special serving, even if you sit outside. Stuff is more than friendly and helps you to choose what you need at the time. I've been there 2 times. One of that visits I came in no-dinner time, instead of which I was kindly proposed to have some glass of wine or cocktail. They have all kinds of wine from all Italian regions. But, sure, I've ordered wine from Vèneto area by local producers. It was really worthy, and finally, I tried 3 sorts of wine and was absolutely delighted. I truly recommend AI Mercanti as a great place to drink some wine and eat perfect cooked food.
