“Bijou classic Venice”

Opting for a standard room I wasn't expecting how Small the room would be an upon asking for an upgrade was told politely that everywhere was full. This is my second time to Venice and I have to say the location is excellent for the main attractions ( all 5-10) mins away and the breakfast is splendid - fresh pancakes and waffles if you have a swede tooth. If you can afford it upgrade to a Deluxe : but if you can't don't be worried the rooms are small but perfectly formed and the hotel has a touch of Venetian class: bijou Classic Venice.

The Palazzo Paruta in Venice was a great base for our Venice trip. Easy to get to, just take the vaporetto from the train station to San Angelo and then a short 5 minute walk to the hotel. It is on a small canal so you still have the canal views without all the noise of the Grand Canal. We found ourselves coming back to the hotel in the late afternoon, not only for the wonderful afternoon tea that they provided which is included in your accommodation cost but for an hours peace in their courtyard from the busy streets of Venice. Highly recommend the speedboat trip to the Island of Murano, once again cost included in your stay. Breakfast is a five star event in a lovely sunny dining room with very attentive staff. We would stay here again on our next trip to Venice.

Room Tip: Pay the extra to upgrade to a superior room, they are roomer and usually have two windows that you c...

My partner and I stayed here two nights and it was the one place we splurged on as it was towards the end of the trip.

We got off at San Angelo station and found the walk very simple (mind you we are in our 20's so it should be!) . Upon check in we were greeted by a nice gentlemen, no maps or suggestions for Venice like other hotels we have stayed at in Europe. However he gave us a basic run down of the hotel and made us sign a waiver for no smoking on grounds.... Surely telling us was enough?
Also no outside food or alcohol either.

Short walk to st marks square etc and in a quiet location which we loved as massive crowds can get overwhelming for us Australians ;)

Room was big, so was bathroom but we did pay extra for the upgrade. Breakfast was different each morning which was appreciated and we had the afternoon tea which was nice.

AC was working and sometimes our room was freezing. Shower was Luke warm the first morning but was hot the next day which was good!

All in all I recommend this hotel !

Venice. We traveled here with our teenaged kids, and I had a nice conversation with my son, who commented, "At what point does something become 'rustic' rather than being considered 'blight'?" It was good to know he was being observant, and was also keeping things in perspective. It is apparently very difficult to renovate buildings in Venice, which means things are decidedly more "charming" and "quaint" than you would find in a more modern city. But that is part of the experience. The Palazzo Paruta has modern amenities, including AC (which was key during our hot visit) and the size of our room was fine. It overlooked a small canal, and we were treated to a gondolier singing -- I kid you not -- "O solo mio ..." as he passed by.
It took us a while to get our bearings, but once we did, we realized the location of the hotel was quite central. Since this is Venice and there are no cars, prepare to walk. A lot. My husband had this crazy idea that we would all travel with only a carry-on bag for a two week trip -- and we actually managed to do it! Even me, the quintessential over-packer! Well, in Venice, I was very glad we packed light. We were not too far from the vaporetto stop, but it was still a bit of a walk, including some stairs and small bridges. (When we checked out, we noticed a water taxi waiting for another hotel guest in the canal right outside the door of the hotel, so it is possible to get there without lugging your bags -- I would suggest contacting the hotel in advance to arrange, if you don't want to walk with your luggage.)
When we ventured out to explore the city, we found that the Piazza S. Marco was about a five minute walk, the Rialto Bridge was about a five minute walk, the Accademia Bridge was about a five minute walk, and the S. Angelo vaporetto stop was about a three minute walk away. Basically, very convenient. When we weren't walking around, we bought a 24 hour pass for the vaporetto and just rode it up and down the Grand Canal, using it like a hop-on-hop-off bus (we had just come from London, where we had used the hop-on/off tour bus to see the sights) at our own pace. We had a self-guided tour podcast that we listened to, so we were able to appreciate some of the sights along the way.
Back to the hotel -- the afternoon tea was nice, but not worth scheduling your day around. The breakfast buffet was good and the service staff was nice. Look around and see what other people are getting -- I figured out at some point that you could ask the staff for a waffle (made-to-order) and a cappuccino/espresso, which were both good. My son enjoyed the frozen coffee slushy frappuccino-like concoction that was available, too.
The one issue we had with our room was a noisy fan. The technician came to fix it, and did something to it that made the noise stop. Unfortunately, he didn't tell us what he did, and the default setting for the fan made the noise start up again after we had left and returned to the room. Fortunately, we figured out that the noise would stop if the fan was on a lower setting. It would have been nice if they would have just told us this, but this was not a big deal.
Overall: would recommend if you want a centrally located, quiet, charming hotel.

I booked this hotel last summer for our Venice trip which took place a few weeks ago. Possibly I forgot specifically what my fellow reviewers had said, but in my mind this hotel should have been a better stay based upon their ratings. It is true that the staff is friendly and helpful while in Venice, however it would have been nice to know prior to arrival that we were going to have to navigate 4 flights of stone steps over canals and a 7 minute walk from the S. Angelo valporetto stop. We had a private water taxi to the stop, but needed a porter to get to the hotel with our bags. It was a hot and sweaty trek to the hotel and tough on our 40-something bodies to lug the bags up and over the canals. I recommend booking a porter on the front end which the hotel does not suggest. You just have to know.

Our room was TINY, think walk-in closet, and the bathroom even smaller. The room was clean and nicely appointed, but the size, ugh. My husband and I are small people and could handle our claustrophobic surroundings for a couple of nights only, but any body who is tall or overweight might have a difficult time dealing with the size of the standard room (I would upgrade). My husband and I could not turn around without bumping into one another. Getting to the closet was quite a chore and requires a course in navigation and negotiation (either jump over the bed or ask the other person in the room to move... move where? my husband would ask).

Now the A/C was a problem. It just so happened to be a very hot week in Venice and A/C is a Godsend, however our A/C could barely get below 76 degrees. Many other hotels guests that I spoke with said the same thing. If you are going in the summer months and want a cool room, don't stay here.

I would say all in all this hotel was not a good value. We have friends who stayed at Hotel Moresco who had excellent things to say including that they paid the same price as us and had a room 4x's the size of ours with a view of a beautiful, quiet canal.

Location... it is situated on a nice big square, however it was difficult to find your way to and from at first. Eventually we figured it out, but it still is not an easy location to get where you need to be such as the Guggenheim or Saint Mark's. We were visiting for a weekend of events some which were in the same area and some in the Castello region. Regardless of where we were going, it took 20 to 30 minutes, a good map, a bottle of water, many stops under a shaded awning to rest or review the map, and a lot of patience. This was our 3rd time to Venice, so you'd think it would not have been this challenging. The hotel's location is difficult to navigate from particularly if you have to be somewhere at a set time.

It is true that it is a place to rest your head since you are out and about the whole day, however I still believe there are far better hotels to stay at. In 2007 when we were in Venice, we stayed at the Foscari Palace and I wish we stayed there again and if there is a next time, we'll stay at Hotel Moresco. Both of these hotels offer more for your money and are easier to get to and navigate Venice from.

Room Tip: Choose one on a lower level to have a cooler stay since the A/C does not work well, but not by the b...

Tucked away off San Angelo boat stop is this charming hotel. The room was small and we did not have a balcony but we were there really only to sleep. The front desk staff was extremely helpful with any information we needed. We loved the location and the nearby restaurants just outside the door to the plaza. The daily breakfast had a lovely variety of foods. The only negative and disappointment was we could not purchase a bottle of bubbles to enjoy on the patio/courtyard. Some sort of "Health Law"? We would definitely return to this hotel.

Having carried out a lot of research on Venice hotels we eventually chose the Palazzo Paruta and were definitely not disappointed, it lived up to its tripadvisor ratings and the advice from previous regarding room was spot on. We chose a deluxe room (number 161) which was superb, very spacious with doors opening out onto a balcony overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom is also very spacious and luxurious. The breakfast is excellent with everything from cereals, to crepes, meats, cheeses, bacon and pastries available. The afternoon tea is a nice touch but I would not dash back to the hotel simply to take it. The hotel is not cheap but must be amongst the best value for money in the area. Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Our deluxe room was superb.
