A wonderful hotel. Based in San Croce, Easy access to main tourist areas, but location allows you to enjoy peace and quiet. Close to the San Stae water bus stop. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff.
We loved opening the shutters in the morning and watching the activity on the small canal by the hotel. Highly recommended

Our family of five, three boys (11, 8, 6) stayed three nights at the beginning of July. We had two adjoining king rooms on the fourth floor with windows overlooking the courtyard/entrance. The rooms were small relative to what I would expect in the US but not relative to what we have experienced in most places in Europe. Other than the bed the furnishing was minimal and somewhat perfunctory. In essence we had enough space to do what we needed but had real motive to get out if possible. The mini bar was very limited. We did get one night free so no complaints.

We liked the location. It is not in the heart of things so you can get to quieter restaurants easily and even a grocery store if you need something. We may have even seen some actual Venetians. It is directly adjacent to the water bus stop which is handy and reasonable close to the train station which was good for us. It is a bit of a walk to the main attractions if you choose to go that route.

The breakfast was good, oriented towards European tastes. The bar was little used as far as I could tell. There was never any customers there that I saw.

The staff was helpful and professional if not enthusiastic.

If we were to return to Venice we would leave the kids behind and try a different hotel. Not that it was bad but it wasn't good enough to convince us that there isn't something better.

Room Tip: The rooms on the second floor, 200's, appear to have much higher ceilings.

I booked this hotel months ago on hotels.com and apparently booked a room with a "dormer window," which I found out upon check-in meant I was staying the hotel's attic. Yes, the attic.

While the room was modern and clean, I had to kneel in the shower and hit my head multiple times on the room's sloped ceilings.

No high-quality hotel puts its guests in the attic, and even a decent one would communicate with its customers ahead of time to make 100% certain they know what they signed up for.

The front desk staff did offer to try and move me, but there were no other rooms available, and ultimately the response I got was basically "this is what you signed up for" and a printout of the room description, which may or may not have been buried somewhere in the room's description.

To me this is a general illustration of what many other reviewers have commented on: the staff was collectively one of the most miserable groups of service employees I've ever encountered. I don't believe I saw a smile once.

We came from hotels in Rome, Cinque Terre and Paris before this one and all were great experiences.

With many other hotels in Venice to choose from I would advice travelers to stay away from this hotel.

Room Tip: Beware of the Dormer Rooms!

Dear Guest,
we are deeply ashamed and sorry that your stay was not up to your expectations.
But I must point out that the room skylight that had booked describes clearly in this room that is just for its the cheapest among the 7 types that the hotel provides.
For greater clarity, here's the description of the room dormer:

Room with dormer window
Rooms with dormer windows on the 5th floor view to the sky and access able only by steps from the 4th floor. No WI connection available on this room.
Rooms with a skylight view of the sky, with no windows, reached by stairs, suitable for young couples

Directly under the sky of Venice ! !
These are very special rooms newly and completely renovated. Very unique rooms with dormer windows view to the sky, that can be open electronically. The rooms are situated on the 5th floor, and accessible from the 4th floor, to where the lift is available, with easy and secure steps. As we offer the most reasonable prices for this category of the rooms, they are perfect for young couples who’d like to live the emotions of staying in PALAZZO. Due to the particular architectural configuration of the old roof in some places the ceiling in the room turns out to be somewhat lower.
LCD TV 21''TV, Sky TV, pay TV, radio and alarm clock. Individually controllable air-conditioning and heating. Saving Energy technology applied- we are for protecting the environment! Hairdryer, digital safe, double voltage for shaver 110/220V. A courtesy line of amenities non allergic. Average Room Size; 14/19 sq meters.
Room for a maximum of 2 persons
The photo is an example of this category of rooms.
I must also add that being fully booked for that period, despite the efforts made, as you said, we were not able to propose,
another type of room that might have been more appropriate to your needs.
On one point I definitely cannot agree with what is written, the hotel staff not only loves this job and do it with care and attention, but most of all is smiling
and attentive to the needs of our Guests. In addition, all our team attend refresher courses on behavior to have with our Guests.
Thank you anyway of your feedback and in the future we will try to improve wherever possible.

We stayed only one night on a stopover fom Australia,, and staff could not have been more helpful. We had been upgraded to a beautiful room, and though my daughter and I required the original twin room, staff quickly and efficiently converted the upgraded room to two beds.

Hotel is on the water and right near Stan Stae ferry. I had stayed near here on my last visit and is a great location - nice walk to Rialto and St Marks square while remaining a little more localized and out of the crowds.
Only disappointment was the restaurant recommended to us which was average and I had eaten much nicer meals in the area on my last visit - particularly the one around the corner from the hotel and ferry stop.
Overall very happy with our visit after the long haul flight - comfortable beds and great bathroom.

We stayed here for a couple of nights late June 2013 with our son. The room was lovely, it had a great atmosphere to it. We also found the hotel very clean and the staff most accommodating.
The hotel is right next to the water bus stop so is quite easy to get to and is in a quiet, less 'touristy' location so you are nicely away from the madness that is St. Mark's Square.
Venice is such a beautiful place and this hotel could only add to your experience of it!
We really enjoyed staying at the Palazzo Gioveneli and if we ever make it back to Venice we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room facing the courtyard, it was very quiet.

With a great, attentive staff, a beautiful, carefully-restored interior and a great, central location I highly recommend this place.

Be aware, they strictly enforce Italy's odd, silly occupancy rules so if you're traveling with kids, keep in mind you'll need a suite.

My family and I were in Venice from June 8 to June 11 and stayed at the Palazzo Giavanelli. After substantial hotel research, we booked our reservation some months before by direct communication with Domenico FORT, the hotel manager. We had asked for the junior suite with an extra roll away bed as we were traveling with our son and wanted the extra room. We arrived around 7pm on the 8th as we were driving from Florence and had to return the rent car. Returning the rent car, we took the canal bus to S. Stae – right next door to the hotel (17 euro pp). No sweat.

Upon check in, our room was beautiful, but, we thought, on the smallish side for the junior suite. We mentioned to the night manager that we thought our room was beautifully appointed, and the views spectacular (top floor, canal views), but that we thought our room would be somewhat larger. He noted our comments, and suggested we speak to the assistant manager the next morning. Next morning, going down to breakfast, we spoke to the assistant manager, and much to our surprise… he upgraded us to the PRESIDENTIAL SUITE! Wow! What a treat! This room is enormous, and fabulously appointed. It truly is a “palace” within the Palazzo Giavanelli.

Our stay at the hotel was no less than perfect – every request met by the staff with courtesy and a smile. Wake up calls on time, excursion questions answered fully (they arranged a private taxi for us for a half day trip to Murano that brought us directly back to the hotel – no charge!).

Breakfasts were more than adequate and supplied fully.

Oscar at Murano was an excellent guide to explain the history of glass blowing artisan creations, and did not pressure us to purchase anything. However, after viewing the beautiful collections, we happily purchased some glass works for shipment back home.

We think the hotel has a perfect, central location – close to the Rialto Bridge (7 minute walk max), but, importantly, away from the traffic hustle and bustle. Many fine restaurants nearby to choose from, and has a nice outside sitting area to relax when the weather is right.

Our stay at the Palazzo Giavanelli could not have been better, and we thank Domenico FORT and his staff for such a memorable stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for your stay in Venice.
