“Magnificent!”

What a wonderful gem!! .It is well situated near 2 vaporetto stops and within short walking distance to the railway station and a myriad of cafés, shops, and restaurants. The "Prestige Grand Canal Room" and the adjacent bathroom were immaculate as well as stunning! I cannot state enough superlatives about the staff! When our water taxi arrived at the hotel dock from the airport, the entire hotel staff was waiting to greet and assist us. Their smiles and welcomes made us feel like honored guests! During our six day stay at Hotel Canal Grande, the staff was friendly, helpful, and extra-attentive! Special thanks to Anna, Chiara, Rixana, Giovanna, and Tommaso . I was crying as said my goodbyes to them! My husband and I loved Hotel Canal Grande!

Room Tip: If a GC view is important to you, I would recommend staying in the main hotel. It was magical to loo...

The hotel not only lived up to it's description, it far exceeded it. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming. The breakfast offered everything you could want and was never allowed to run out, being constantly topped up. The staff are all fantastic. They are extremely helpful, friendly and nothing seems too much trouble for them. They genuinely want you to have a wonderful holiday. The location is fantastic, within easy walking distance of all the sights and the railway station. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We chose this hotel because we wanted something near the train station. EVERYTHING about the place is totally fine. Service friendly. Breakfast ok. Location perfect. We were here over the New Year holiday weekend, so I'm sure the place was booked. Our room was in an adjunct of the hotel, so you needed to go outside to go to the main desk or the bar. The room was on the first floor and very dark. Facing an alley. There was always two times during the day that the room smelled of spoiled seawater. At times very strong and gag inducing. Other times.....just there.
The front desk was helpful in making restaurant recommendations, but it felt very much like they were driving us to touristy places. All the same, nice about it.
Priced very well. Stay in the main house. Not the adjacent house.

Room Tip: Stay in the main hotel - not the adjacent building.

Dear Mr. Larrybill,
we thank you for your review, any review is very helpful to us, it is the only way we have to improve our service.

When we received your review we were very surprised to see that you were writing in May 2014 for a December 2013 stay .....??
We even tried (twice) to contact you privately, to know something more about your stay but we had no answer!

We would like you to know that Venice is a city with thousands little streets (calli) and because of that, the light coming into houses is not the same as in a open space.
Next time we suggest you to book a room with Grand Canal view (there is only one Grand Canal in the city) and the room for sure will be lighter.

In any case december in Italy is the darker month of the year,
days are very short.
Is it the same in New York ?

About the smell we would like to know if it was inside the room, in the bathroom or coming from outside. Do you remember your room name or number ??

Normally we do not have any problem about bad smell
but we trust you and we would like you to know that
in between november and february it is our High Tide Season, sometimes we have very high tides and sometimes very low tides and that is what, sometimes, brings a bad smell in our rooms.

Our S. Simeon little building is only 19 metres from the main building and prestige rooms are bigger than the prestige rooms in the main buiding with a complimentary coffee/tea maker as a plus.
You know in Venice it is very difficult to find big buildings and that is why we have an annex building however rooms are furnished in the same style and with the same comfort.

In any case when our Guests are not happy with the accomodation and they report it,
we try to move them into a different room.

Did you mention at the Reception you did not like your accomodation ?

We were "touched" even about your sentence : "The front desk was helpful in making restaurant recommendations, but it felt very much like they were driving us to touristy places. All the same, nice about it.".
You know Mr. Larry,
Venice has 65.000 inhabitants/residents and 50.000 visitors per day, do you still think we reccomended you touristy places ???
We recommeded you places where we normally go,
we never reccomend a place we did not try personally!

We are really sorry you did not get the feeling to be, as we are used to say in Italy "in good hands"
and that's why we hope to welcome you back in the future.

We wish you all the best and we wait for your next visit,
thank you,
best regards,
Alessandro Fornasier

spent three nights during May 2014. Excellent location on the grand canal and close to the train station. Convenient to all traditional sites within Venice. Staff was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Hard to believe that all interactions with staff in a hotel are positive, but that is the case here.
Loved sitting on the deck overlooking the canal in the evening! Breakfast was good and catered to many different tastes.

We had a great time in Venice thanks to the staff at this hotel. We had a fantastic room with a four poster bed which was beautifully and luxuriously decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful and made some very good restaurant recommendations. The one night we forgot to get a restaurant recommendation we certainly noticed the difference! The location was great and within easy access of the water bus service. Breakfast was good and early evening drinks overlooking the Canal Grande were wonderful. Thank you Hotel Canal Grande for a wonderful first trip to Venice we hope to return!

Room Tip: For a special occasion I recommend the Antonio Vivaldi Suite

We went back for the third time in April and will go again.

We were given a beautiful room on the ground floor. Everything was perfect, as on our previous visits. Fantastic location, great staff, lovely breakfast.

That says it all. We can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have asked for more. Perfect quiet location. Clean, beautifully decorated room. Wonderful shower. Comfy bed! Most of all though, the staff. Nothing was too much trouble - breakfast delicious, helpful advice and directions, excellent recommendations for dinner spots. Thank you!

Room Tip: We had the small simple "Mercato Antico" room on the ground floor. No views but it was mor...
