“First time in Venice? You must stay here!”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

As the title suggests, this was our first time in Venice.
After reading numerous reviews about this hotel, I was growing suspicious that nowhere could be this good. I'm pleased to say I was wrong.
From the moment we drew up at the dock to the second we left, we were treated fantastically. The staff at the Canal Grande are so attentive. On arrival we told them this was our first time in Venice so they gave us a complimentary map, marking the hotels' location, explaining briefly where the nearest vaporetti stops were and clearly marking points of interest and giving us an overview of the North/South divide that happens this time of year, ( resident Venetians all clear out of the South into the North to escape tourists! ). We were handed a card with a mini map on the reverse and the hotels' contact details and address on the front. A small, but well thought out gesture.
All rooms in the Canal Grande are named - we stayed on the first floor in the Rosalba Carriera suite which had an excellent side-on view of the Canal and the nearby street. It doesn't get noisy outside the room despite the pedestrian entrance being underneath and the Canal being opposite. In fact, my wife and I opened the windows on our first evening there and sat and enjoyed watching the world go by.
Our room was immaculate........and when I say immaculate I really mean it. There was not a spot of dust or dirt anywhere. The room had a decent sized bathroom with an excellent shower and was adjoined to the main body of the room by a small passageway with a couple of chairs at the window, again giving a good view of the Canal.
Breakfast was continental style and again was superb. If you do get the chance to take breakfast outside in the small seating area, it's probably best to do this early as it can be quite busy later as there's only 3 tables. We were very fortunate with the weather and had three days of glorious unbroken sunshine from sunrise to sunset, so it was very pleasant to be sat next to the Canal.
The hotels' location is also very good as it's close to all main transport links but also secluded enough so that it's not bombarded by foot traffic. We did see the occasional tourist wander up to the waters' edge and sit by the Canal but it doesn't get the footfall that other places in Venice might see.
The main tourist attractions of St.Marks Square, the Basilica and Rialto Bridge are closer than you think. On our first day we sorted our luggage and went for a wander through the streets and before we knew it, we were at Rialto Bridge! Getting around on foot is by far the best option, so take comfy footwear and if you get lost you can easily find the hotel by following the signs to Piazzale Roma.
Overall, our trip to Venice was just about perfect and made even more special by the hotel and it's location but more importantly, the staff, who will welcome you warmly, make you feel comfortable and give you just about all the information and service you could possibly want. I say it was a near perfect trip because we had to come home!
First time in Venice? You must stay here!

Arrived at our hotel after a good and (on time) flight with easy jet for the first time, took the water taxi and was welcomed to our room which was on the ground floor, beautifully decorated but quite small, we asked if there were any other rooms available as I prefer to be on an upper level, we had paid for a double classic room but after being shown the junior suite we decided to pay the extra 150 euro, it was well worth it with a lounge area and stunning four poster bed. Staff were friendly and very polite, breakfast was buffet style with cereals, pastries fruit etc which was perfectly fine, we took on the little terrace outside over the water slightly chilly (early morning)but was so lovely to sit and watch the gondolas and boats go by (3 tables) situated outside we found the hotel to be perfectly situated around 40 mins wandering through cobbled streets to St Marks square, weather was perfect for sightseeing around 70 degrees we managed to take in all major sights in 4 days just wandering getting lost and enjoying the numerous cafés and restaurants we visited Murano via a free trip from the hotel if you decide to do this don't feel pressurised
into buying the products! We did take a Gondola ride and chose around late morning lovely and quiet up to grand canal and Rialto and although quite expensive at 80 euro for 40 mins, we really enjoyed the
experience, we did ask a few gondaleers and they all seem to be around this price. We have visited a lot of cities and always say we will return but we loved Venice so much we will definitely return, it really is a magical place.

We have just returned from a five night stay at the Hotel Canal Grande, from the moment we arrived to checkout , everything was perfect. Our room/suit was beautiful and spotless, and very comfortable, and had everything we required.Every one of the staff was very helpful and friendly,it would be hard to name them as they were all brilliant, and all had good local knowledge of restaurants which we found very helpful.Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, and all we attentive at all times.Breakfast was good and in a nice relaxed atmosphere.Have on hesitation to recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: our room was on the side above the courtyard which was nice an quiet, although not a canal view.

just spent 5 days at Canal Grande Hotel in Venice. What can I say! from the moment we arrived until we left the staff were just fantastic, nothing was too much trouble to make sure we enjoyed our stay with them and they were so very friendly with excellent English. The room was beautiful overlooking the Grand Canal, I could have just sat there all day looking out. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

My wife and I began our two week holiday in Italy in Venice at the Hotel Canal Grande. I cant say enough about what a wonderful start to our holiday this was. The staff are exceptional, especially the wonderful lady at the front desk. I only wish I could remember her name so I could thank her once again. Her assistance was exceptional, from helping me with the finding my way to personally calling the tour company to verify the time and confirm our reservation.
Cant wait to return, and highly recommend the hotel and the staff.
Molte Grazie

Room Tip: Our room was not one the ones on the canal and it was great. Safe and secure.

The hotel with a typically venetian decor was very very cozy. The location was very good, near to the train station and local restaurants. The staff was kind and helpful all the time. Breakfast was wonderful and our room was beautiful and comfortable. Value for money! We loved!
