My wife and I recently stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande for 2 nights during our honeymoon trek around Italy. Throughout our journey we stayed at several 4-star hotels and were treated well everywhere. However, the service and the overall experience at the Canal Grande were beyond exceptional.

1) Upon arrival (7 minute walk from the Santa Lucia Train Station) we were greeted with a smile by Chiara. She introduced us to Venice with a map, an explanation of the hotel's services and was able to offer us a few special amenities for our honeymoon. Needless to say, we were impressed immediately by the hotel, and the service remained at an exceptional level throughout our stay.

2) Our room (a junior suite) was gorgeous and pristine. My wife referred to it as a "fairy princess room". We had a private terrace outside our bedroom and small kitchenette (hot plate/stove, refrigerator, sink). The sink was especially useful for refilling our large water bottles for our daily adventures around town.

3) Breakfast was included, and was definitely the best hotel breakfast we had at any of the hotels we stayed in Italy. The Capuccini were well made and the food selections were vast yet all good. We had good fruit, great eggs (scrambled and hard boiled) and an assortment of croissants. It was a great way to start our days.

4) The hotel has a partnership with some of the Murano Glass Companies, and offered us a free tour, including transportation. The ride to Murano was quick and provided by a water Taxi. The demonstration by a maestro was interesting and we were informed about some of the history and techniques used. After the demonstration, we were led into the gallery portion of the exhibit to look at (and buy if so desired) any of the pieces on display. While we didn't buy anything large, we did buy several small gifts before leaving the island. The Glass company did provde free transportation back to the main island.

5) The hotel also recommended a restaurant across the Grand Canal called Povolodo. We were hesitant at first, since my wife and I have had great success finding small local restaurants without a touristy feel. This felt very touristy when we arrived, but the food was very good and we had a nice nice experience here. Recommended for those that want a nice meal without walking too far from the hotel. And the view is stunning being on the canal.

Overall, I would rate this hotel a 6 out of 5. It was phenomenal, and we will definitely stay here next time we visit Venice.

Thank you Chiara and all of the staff at the Hotel Canal Grande.

We booked this hotel based on reviews and were not disappointed. The staff were unobtrusively helpful and very pleasant. The location is superb, opposite the station on the grand canal and in a lovely part of the city. All main attractions are in walking distance. Rooms are beautifully furnished and equipped and our family was really comfortable here. The small terrace on the canal was great for evening drinks and for those lucky enough to have breakfast there.

A lovely little hotel right on the canal. They gave us a suite for a family and the room was very comfortable (two bathrooms). Four poster bed and two small "bunks" for the kids. The service was impeccable. We arrived late due to delayed flight and the staff were expecting us and made us feel very welcome. We speak a bit of Italian but the staff all spoke perfect English which is very helpful. It's located in Santa Croce in the north - quite a long way from St. Mark's and the big sights, but may be that's not a bad thing as you get friendlier service if you get off the beaten track.

Room Tip: Antonio Vivaldi is the family suite.

We spent two nights at the hotel in August and had a wonderful stay, thanks in most part to the staff. The hotel location may not be perfect, but having said that we found it easy to move around the city and were happy to be away from the hot spots at night. We had two rooms in the annexe building and we found the rooms to be a good size, however the bathrooms were very small and would not have suited if we had been there for a longer stay.

The breakfast was adequate and the prices relatively good. The difference at the hotel came down to the staff, who gave us a great welcome, spent quality time with us to agree an itinerary and were helpful with whatever we asked about during the stay. We would go back to this hotel.

We visited Venice for my wife's 30th birthday - and this hotel was a major contributing factor in making the trip really memorable. In short, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel whatsoever; if you're considering booking a room here then GO FOR IT! It's definitely worth it.

Not only was the hotel itself fantastic but the staff were incredibly helpful; they simply could not have done more for us. Upon arrival we were immediately made to feel welcome and everything was explained to us to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. We arrived at around 4:30pm and so had a good amount of time to explore once we'd checked in. Once we returned to our room later in the evening, we found that the hotel had left us a birthday cake for my wife. What a wonderful gesture!

Breakfast was lovely and we sat outside each day that we were at the hotel. It was a lovely way to start our day: with a magnificent waterside view.

As others have said, the hotel is supposedly 'off the beaten track'; it isn't at the heart of the most touristy areas. However, such is the size of Venice that it really isn't far to get anywhere - a mere 20 minutes walk or so to Rialto and another 5-10 minutes to San Marco. This was absolutely perfect for us. What we found was that it forced us to explore the whole city - and I don't think we'd have done so in quite the same way if we had stayed nearer to San Marco. Also, the city is really well sign posted (you'll see what I mean when there) meaning that it is REALLY easy to find your way around. Besides, getting lost and exploring is all part of the charm! The location of Canal Grande allowed us to make the very most of our stay. We wouldn't have wanted to stay any closer to the busier areas.

My wife and I absolutely loved our time here. It was completely a stay to remember. Thank you so much to the hotel and its amazing staff!

Nice room, good location (quiet), ice cold air conditioning, free wifi and a friendly staff. If we were to return to Venice, this location would be given strong consideration. It is a decent walk to many of the more popular tourist sites.....just an FYI.

I booked this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews. It was my second time in Venice but my husband's first and he was very excited. I needed a hotel with water view and the unique artistic style in a 'quiet place' but still close to the main attractions. Canal Grande fulfilled all my expectations and beyond with the friendly staff and how helpful they were with us explaining our way around Venice and pleasing us with our requests : a nice pro secco on their terrace after walking all day long....
It's a small boutique hotel with a beautiful terrace (fitting 3 tables) overlooking Canal grande. Short distance walking from the train station ( important when you are carrying your luggage through small little bridges) Is located in a quiet beautiful square and accessible to everything : boat taxi or walking. Unfortunately our room wasn't overlooking the canal (not available at the moment of reservation) but we had a small water view from the side. The room was small but cozy and the deco was stunning. Nothing negative, nothing!

Room Tip: Ask for the 'full' view on the canal
