“High expectations were no disappointed - truly beautiful”
Reviewed 10 October 2010

unfortunately we only had one night in this beautiful hotel. We chose it only due to the Trip Advisor recommendations and really had high hopes upon arrival (it would get 6 out of 5 if it was located on the other side of the canal so you wouldn't need to lug suitcases over the large bridge over the Grand Canal or the smaller bridge that also needs to be traversed - that said it was very close to the train station as promised). Was also a little tricky working out directions as I do not recall seeing any signs, it was only prior reseach on Google Maps that ensured we headed in the right direction.

All experiences with staff where first class from check in to departure and everything in between. The room (Carnivale) was stunning, although not Canal frontage or overly large, with beautiful decor, fittings and appointments and it really gave off a truly Venitian ambiance.

Whilst the price could be considered as high there was no hint of not getting value relative to the cost.

A stunning hotel and one of the best we have stayed in.

We originally booked at the Hotel Antiche Figure, sister hotel of the Hotel Canal Grande. Since we arrived early they offered to upgrade us to this hotel free of charge. We were hesitant at first but upon seeing the hotel and room we gladly accepted. We had a beautifully appointed room with windows opening up right onto the canal. My wife adored the four poster bed. It was comfortable and inviting. The bathroom was very nice with a marble vanity and heated towel rack. The floors were hardwood; a very nice touch. The staff was extremely friendly. It is obvious they are very proud of their rating on Trip Advisor and it shows in their hospitality. Perhaps the greatest feature of this hotel that distinguishes it from other nearby hotels is the small dock area adjoining the breakfast room. They have it roped off and have placed three tables out there, right on the waterfront, for guests to enjoy. We found this to be a perfect way to both and start and end our day of exploring Venice. We would wake up and go sit right on the water and enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the canal come alive. We saw very few hotels that offered this. the breakfast was very adequate: boiled eggs, salami, ham, cheeses, cereal, pastries, croissants, fruit, etc. And did I mention that you could sit right on the water on little dock/terrace and enjoy your meal?! We also like that this hotel was a little tucked away from the main path of tourist foot traffic. This meant it was quiet and relaxing. The location is perfect too. A five minute walk and you are at either the train station or a main vaporetto (water bus) stop. I have thought long and hard to see if I could find one small thing, anything to criticize this hotel for and I can not. In a word, it's perfect.

My brand new husband and I honeymooned in the Canal Grande for 5 nights at the end of August. From arrival late at night to our departure, the friendly and efficient staff accommodated every one of our needs and requests, reception staff exceeding our expectations for the most part.
The location of the hotel is ideal with us being able to find our way back (pretty challenging in Venice) by simply following the signs to Ferrovia train station.
My husband had requested a water taxi airport pick up for us via the hotel and this went very smoothly, albeit a little too fast for me to begin with. It was a surreal experience to arrive at the Grand canal in the dark with the palazzi all lit up from within. On arrival the night staff were fantastic and there was champagne, beautiful flowers and a lovely bowl of fruit in our room. We were lucky enough to have been given the room with the private terrace overlooking the square and canal. We spent a few lazy hours there in the sun and at night watching life on the canal.
The only drawback was the size of the immaculately decorated room (although this was offset by the spacious terrace) and the lack of a bath, which we really missed so I've rated this as 4 out of 5.
The public areas are perfectly adequate, although a larger deck outside to accommodate all those guests who want to breakfast on the canal would be a good addition. There was always a queue for the 3 outside tables.
Accomodation costs in Venice are expensive so while the price of this hotel is high, it's fairly competitive with other 4 star hotels.
Venice itself is spectacular and lives up to its reputation. All in all I would go back in a heartbeat, both to the city and to the Hotel Canal Grande.

This hotel is just great. We stayed for 3 days in one of the rooms overlooking the Gran Canal. The service is also really good, with personel always looking for your comfort.

Like all the others we appreciate staff's helpfullness and humor - it was marvellous!!
We stayed in junior suite(4ladies, good for chatting and giggling and spending time together). Hotel is a 10min walk from the Piazzale Roma, where one can get from Marco Polo's airport by bus (3€) easily.
Breakfast is a very good start for the day and one can even enjoy it on a dock by the Grand Canal . Room was very clean, AC worked nicely, WiFi as well.
Hotel is situated near the railway station and vaporetto stops, and not so near the St Marcus square(not so expensive or noisy).
But the most wonderfull thing about this hotel is the staff ! They help you with everything and with genuine friendliness.

This is a beautiful hotel located in Venice not far from the train station. The hotel is right on the Grand Canal. There is a small terrace overlooking the canal. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated in a quiet location. We were greeted each morning with a wonderful "buongiorno" and each evening with a lovely "buonosera. Breakfast was included with our room rate. The front desk staff, especially Giovanna, were extremely helpful. Giovanna helped us with train travel, restaurant recommendations and directions. In fact, upon our arrival, we got a little lost in the maze of Venice streets and canals. We called the hotel to ask for directions and were told to stay where we were while a staff member came to find us! What a warm and welcoming way to be introduced to Venice.

..what the other reviewers say. Just book & enjoy, if you can.

The only negative experiences from our 2 nights in the Doge room was a somewhat unpleasant and unhelpful interaction with the night clerk, and a another situation in which some other employee spent ages finding information on the vaporetti schedule that in the end were just plain wrong. Still 4/5 for service, as the rest of the staff were marvelous.
