The Al Duca is just 10 minutes walk from the station in a quiet location next to the natural history museum. Very easy to reach as long as you are fit enough to carry your cases over 3 bridges, the first of which crosses the Grand Canal so is quite high. If not, take a water taxi.

On the map it looks as if it is a long way from the main attractions but in fact it is only 10 minutes walk to the Rialto Bridge and a further 10 minutes stroll to St Mark's Square. If you don't want to walk the boat stop is very close.
We had booked a superior room but on our arrival were upgraded to the "red" family room. A wonderful Venetian style room with a large bathroom (very large for Venice). The room was decorated in deep (romantic) red throughout.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was extensive and served throughout the morning. Everything we needed for a perfect holiday.

The Al Duca di Venezia Hotel was above par. It was even better than what I saw in the pictures online!!

The hotel itself was beautiful. It surpasses typical European Italian hotels.

Rooms--rooms were authentic to Italian Venitian style. Our room was updated, but was not missing the allure of Venitian Style. There were 3 of us and we were able to book a queen/king bed and an additional twin.

The staff-- Extremely helpful and kind. Everytime we came into contact with staff at the hotel, the experience was pleasant. They were helpful in navigating us around the narrow alleyways to the locations we intended to find.

Location-- Perfect! We were walking distance to everything we wanted to see--Rialto Bridge, Shopping Markets, Teatro Malibran (10 minutes), San Marco Piazza (15 minutes)

Airport to Hotel--we took a water taxi from the airport to the hotel and the taxi literally dropped us off on the exact alley of our hotel. It took maybe 2 minutes to walk to the hotel. The water taxi was 110 euros that we split between the 3 of us. Well worth it.

Hotel to Santa Lucia Train station--also walking distance...however, you have to drag your luggage and there are several sets of stairs to go up and bridges to go over. It was no problem for me and my cousin (33yo and 37yo), but was a bit more difficult for my mother (65yo), BUT, she did do it! So, not impossible!

Check out, but still want to expolore around-- We were able to check our luggage into the lobby closet after we checked out so we could go out and explore a bit more before our train at 3pm.

Breakfast-- there was a free continental breakfast each morning. It was the perfect start to our mornings.

This was an excellent experience! I will book here again and recommend this hotel to anyone!

We stayed at the Hotel Al Duca di Venezia for 3 days, 2 nights during our vacation in April 2013. We took a water taxi to save time from the airport and arrived in 20-25 minutes. The dock we were dropped off at was a 2 minute walk to the hotel doors, very easy to find (right next door to the Natural History Museum). Check-in and check out was fast and painless. Remember when checking out to have the Italy tourist tax in cash ready. I think ours was 12 Euros for two guests.

We were kindly greeted by the hotel staff who had our room ready for us ahead of schedule. We were celebrating a belated anniversary trip and when arriving to the room, they had a bottle of champagne and snacks with a nice card greeting us.

The staff was incredibly helpful giving us tips and recommendations to sights and restaurants. The front desk staff was available 24 hours if we ever needed anything, but we didn't.

The room had everything we needed, extremely clean room and bathroom, with a shower only, no tub, which was not a problem. The water pressure was amazing and made for long showers. The bed was very comfortable - large wall-mounted tv and free wifi.

Breakfast was included and had a nice selection to get the day started. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The hotel was in a very quiet part of Venice, but that's a good thing. We were able to mingle with the locals while avoiding the touristy crowds. The Rialto Bridge was about a 10-15 minute walk and St. Marks Square was about a 20 minute walk with plenty to see along the way.

Our next stop was Rome, which we took the train. The train station was a quick 10 minute walk, and easy to do so with rolling luggage.

If visiting Venice again, I would not think twice about staying here again.

The hotel is perfect and honestly beyond my expectation for a hotel in Venice. The room is very clean and big. The manager gave me the exact big red room i requested while booking. And very kindly helped to point out the walking tour route! Only 3minutes walk to the boat - bus stop. And take the water route to St Marco Plazza. It's just perfect!

This hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the train station. Be aware the if you are walking, you must carry/roll your luggage over a major step bridge and two smaller bridges to get to the hotel. Such is Venice. We checked in and were told to take the lift to the 2nd floor to meet the clerk so she could show us to our room. Unfortunately, our room was on the 3rd floor (no lift). So 2 more flights of steps. The room was very well-appointed with a power skylight w/shade a comfortable bed and an average sized bathroom (for Europe). The breakfast room was very well attended and the selection was very good. The staff was very helpful. This hotel is a good 25 minute walk to St. Mark's Square in the St. Croce section of the city. While walking around Venice can be a bit unnerving, we managed to find our way without killing each other.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Al Duca di Venezia. The hotel was itself was decorated in the Venetian style but not overdone. Our room was very clean and we were allowed an early check in (we had emailed to ask if we could store our bags after our arrival but they surprised us by having our room ready when we checked in) which we desperately needed after our overnight flight. The room was very nicely decorated and comfortable.

For us, the highlight of the hotel is definitely the staff, who were all very friendly, eager to please and informative. They recommended a very nice nearby restaurant for lunch which was not too "touristy" (as many places in Venice are) and probably served us our best meal in Venice. Anything we asked of the staff they did immediately and with a smile. We were running behind and needed a water taxi to take us to a performance and they got us one in literally 5 minutes.

The neighborhood is lovely and seemed more filled with residents than tourists, which we loved. It is a longer walk to most of the sights than the more centrally located hotels but well worth it for a more authentic experience. The neighborhood actually felt like a neighborhood and not a tourist trap. Overall, a nice hotel with a fantastic staff in a quaint neighborhood.

There are lots of really great things to say about this hotel...the staff are all incredibly helpful and friendly and really seem to value proper customer service. The breakfast was much better that you normally get with a great choice of breads, pastries, cakes, cheeses and cold meats. Also fantastic coffee. Our room was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with the facilities you would expect. It's just 5 minutes walk from San Stae vaporetti stop which you can also reach direct from the airport via Aliliaguna orange line.
The only reason the hotel doesn't get an excellent rating is really due to our room being in the attic. Not a problem in itself but it meant the velux window would close automatically with just a spot of rain making the room far too hot to sleep. The air conditioning was still switched off for the winter so it meant we were baking for a couple of nights. In fairness to the hotel they did offer to move us to another room when one became available. I would certainly still recommend this hotel to others.
