Trust the reviews where it says it's dirty at this hostel! In fact it's not only not clean but also very smelly (in the dorm). Besides the dorm for the guys (or students) is right next door, the walls are thin => pretty noisy!
Wifi is only available at the reception which is only opend a few hours in the morning and evening + 1€/hour! Bad service!
The only plus is the staff gave us bedsheets for free to dry ourselves when they were running out of towels (to rent for 3€).

We stayed in a double with shared bathroom. Location was good, and kitchen facilities were great, letting us save money on buying meals out. Friendly and helpful staff, and wireless internet was cheap, but signal was not available in or room, only in the lobby. Rooms on the canal can be loud in the morning.

Room Tip: Book in advance, rooms seem to fill up quickly during high season!

I've stayed in many hostels around the world, and this hostel is probably one of the worst I've ever stayed in.
First, it is really dirty. Dirty, dirty, dirty. OMG, the bathrooms. I used hand sanitizer all over before I dared touch anything. And our bathroom had no windows, so the air inside the bathroom was nasty all the time. Only one shower and one toilet for 8 people. Horrible.
Second, there's a curfew. After midnight (or 11:30, I can't remember) , you're out. It never happened to me because we were tired, but Venice is a cool place where you could stay up late if you wanted to. So the curfew is really a problem.
No areas to hang out. Just next to the reception. And it's not a place you'd like to hang out... No breakfast, and no possibility to buy breakfast. No cafeteria or store, just vending machines.
There is a receptionist only at specific times of the day. So if you need to check out our leave your luggage somewhere, you can only leave it and pick it up when there is a receptionist. It could be problematic too....
Otherwise the location is good........that's probably the only good thing about it. But Venice is so full of hotels and hostels, if you look around, you can probably find much better places.

My fiancé and I stayed at Ostello Santa Fosca for a few days in November while visiting the Architecture Biennale. We booked a double room, which was located in the set of rooms across the courtyard. The room was overlooking the canal, pretty basic, but clean, spacious, and had a sink unit as well. Be aware that during term times the hostel has no kitchen facilities as they are used by the university students staying in the halls of residence. The position is excellent, in a quiet spot within walking distance from everything. I've read the concerns about the security but I haven't experienced anything bad while there and didn't feel threatened or in danger. The door to the wing of the hostel we stayed in has an electric lock, which only opens from the inside, and from the outside you need the keys to get in. One of the other entrances needs a PIN in order to get in, so maybe they have improved on security since those reviews were posted. I really don't have anything bad to say about this hostel, we knew it was going to be nothing more than a base to visit the Biennale and it served the purpose well, especially at €60 per night - a rate you won't find anywhere else in Venice at any time of the year.

This hostel is known on Trip Advisor with 3 names: Foresteria Santa Fosca, Ostello Santa Fosca & Ostella Santa Fosca.

I arrived on December 23rd excited to be in Venice for the holiday. I was prepared for them to be closed during the Christmas season, however, I was not prepared for the internet to be available ONLY in the reception area.

The reception is open from 9:30 to noon and 5:00 to 8:00pm and the internet is available only during these hours, so if you are a traveler that relys on the internet for communication with family, friends or work, I recommend you look elsewhere for accommodation.

The hostel is cleaned only once a day, in the morning; and in Venice, the rain and sometimes excessive water, the floors in the hallway and bathroom gets VERY dirty and digusting. Do not walk anywhere without shoes on.

The reception is informed about Venice and speaks very good English, however, if you are looking for personal, polite service, you may find more elsewhere. The relief reception was very helpful translating for me with my Italian family.

I thought I was booked in a private room, but when I got there, I found out I was booked for a single bed in a double room, therefore I could have had someone else book the other bed. The hostel was very kind to not book the other bed in the room and I was very grateful. Be careful what you are booking if you book this hostel.

After reading this review, if you book, be prepared when you arrive.

This hostel is a very good choice for young and students. Very cheap and centrally located, near to ponte Rialto. The rooms are very very big. My dorm of 4 beds could accommodate 2-3 more beds without problem. But bathrooms are separate. The reception staff is very courteous. A self serving kitchen was one of the best I saw during my travel. Every thing required in a kitchen was available from stove to microwave to refrigerator etc. Raw material to prepare tea, coffee, pasta and others was available. The place was full of young people. One of my fellow taught me to prepare different types of pasta.
They do not allow entry for 2-3 hours in afternoon during cleaning.

The hostel is located close to the termini and the quarter Cannaregio where you can go shopping. We had a pleasant stay, the reception was allways very very friendly. The hostel was very beautiful and the kitchen was fine, with a fridge. Our room was clean but the toilet was only for disabled persons so we had problems useing it, moreover there were some ants in our room. The only bad thing was the lockout at the day from 10 am to 16 pm, and in the evening it closed at 0:30.
Tipp: you should reserve the lockers before you arrive because otherwise you wont get one.
All in all it is a very nice place to stay with friendly persons and the kitchen wich serves as a kind of common room to get into contact with other travellers.
