Previous reviews are pretty spot on the curfew could be a problem if there was anything to do in Venice at night which there isn't! We accommodated in a building outside the main compound which meant there was no curfew. The bathrooms were filthy very small no place to put your toiletries, they flooded no fan or window. The room we were in wasn't too bad but one bathroom and a seperate toilet which due to the tiny size and lack of functionality meant it took 2-3 times the amount of time to actually shower meant there was some real bladder issues. The obligitory squeeky beds were in evidence. If you are after a fun time try somewhere else it speaks volumes about a town when the locals leave to have a good time!

Location was ok, a bit tricky to find the first day but later it was ok, close to one of the main streets and close to the train station.

Besides that everything was bad. Rooms with bad bunk beds, no lockers inside the rooms, the bathroom very simple, but had a main problem, no hot water on the shower, after complaining to the main desk, she said just to let it run for a while, after 4 hours it was still cold, she just said im sorry, no refund.

Besides summer there is no kitchen, there is no hostel atmosphere, no meeting room, you cant access your rooms until 3pm, of course not wifi. Very [--] hostel i wouldnt recommend

I've just returned from staying in the Santa Fosca Ostello.

Rooms where clean. Clean enough!

So yes there's no air-conditioning- this is Venice a world heritage site, air conditioning can be found only in top hotels, so don't expect it in a 20 euro a night hostel! A long with things like lifts or elevators!

There were only four people in my room which was great as there's less disturbance.

Bathrooms where clean. If someone arrives later in the day they might find a slightly dirty toilet for example. Again it's best you pay for an expensive hotel if you can't handle things like a slightly dirty toilet.

The kitchen was great, large, and fully equipped. They even had the expresso coffee peculators and plenty of left handy left overs, like olive oil and coffee from other travellers.

The lounge around the reception area is nice .

The internet is 1 euro an hour. Actually very cheap!

The curfew starts 00.30. Venezia/Venice/Venedig is not a party city so you should be sleeping by this time anyway. Reception is staffed from 8.00 or just before, you can leave before then but no one will let you back in until after 8.00 am.

There is a beautiful square in the centre of the cluster of buildings with shade and nice botanical specimens, chairs, benches tables and a religious grotto which is rather nice. There are also gardens to the left of the main entrance. So you can sit outside, chat and dine Al Fresco.

The Billa supermarket is also really close. Prices are not too bad and quality is high.

Mosquitos yes in the hot summer months there will be lots of them! Take/buy a plug in mosquito pesticide or use repellent cream/ spray. You will still get the odd bite and buzzing but that's life, if you can't handle that don't visit in the hot and humid summer months or seek out a hotel.

Bed bugs. A problem in many hostels, luckily no sign of them during my stay.

Last time I was in Venice I stayed at the Giudecca Ostello. In my opionion Santa Fosa is better for the following reasons .
It's quieter.
It's on the main Island of Venice so you don't have to pay for the expensive Vaporreto service on a daily basis. There was also no kitchen in the Ostello Venizia on Giudecca or outside spaces to sit during my stay there.

Staff are friendly and welcoming.

Santa Fosca is a Catholic Pastorial institute for students and running the hostel is a side line for them. I'm not Catholic or even religious, which didn't matter as religion here is only something you observe as having a presence here, ie a nice grotto or a prayer room in a building and I'd rather have that then the sometimes ruthless commercial exploitation of visitors to Venice by money grabbing people/institutions.

Actually a really pleasant place with a very warm Italian atmosphere to it.

Room Tip: Book in advance and ask for something quiet. Plan ahead if you can.

I booked and paid for 2 nights at this hostel and regretted it within 1 hour...

The hostel is run by students that live on campus for the holidays. They are all super nice and semi helpful but lack perhaps the cleaning skills and care factor.

The room I stayed in (108) wasn't airconditined, we were not provided with a fan/ventilator and the windows had no flywire so the nights were spent sweating like a pig.

On the first night, I left the window open slightly and got eaten alive by Mosquitos - I didn't really sleep because they were buzzing around my head all night.

Myself and another girl in the room also got BED BUG BITES! At first I blamed all of my bites on the Mosquitos but they look totally different to these bites.

The bathroom was very dirty as well as the foyer near the staircase to my dorm.

4 days later and I'm still suffering from these bites. I just hope the bugs haven't transferred into my luggage! :-S

Trust the reviews where it says it's dirty at this hostel! In fact it's not only not clean but also very smelly (in the dorm). Besides the dorm for the guys (or students) is right next door, the walls are thin => pretty noisy!
Wifi is only available at the reception which is only opend a few hours in the morning and evening + 1€/hour! Bad service!
The only plus is the staff gave us bedsheets for free to dry ourselves when they were running out of towels (to rent for 3€).

We stayed in a double with shared bathroom. Location was good, and kitchen facilities were great, letting us save money on buying meals out. Friendly and helpful staff, and wireless internet was cheap, but signal was not available in or room, only in the lobby. Rooms on the canal can be loud in the morning.

Room Tip: Book in advance, rooms seem to fill up quickly during high season!

I've stayed in many hostels around the world, and this hostel is probably one of the worst I've ever stayed in.
First, it is really dirty. Dirty, dirty, dirty. OMG, the bathrooms. I used hand sanitizer all over before I dared touch anything. And our bathroom had no windows, so the air inside the bathroom was nasty all the time. Only one shower and one toilet for 8 people. Horrible.
Second, there's a curfew. After midnight (or 11:30, I can't remember) , you're out. It never happened to me because we were tired, but Venice is a cool place where you could stay up late if you wanted to. So the curfew is really a problem.
No areas to hang out. Just next to the reception. And it's not a place you'd like to hang out... No breakfast, and no possibility to buy breakfast. No cafeteria or store, just vending machines.
There is a receptionist only at specific times of the day. So if you need to check out our leave your luggage somewhere, you can only leave it and pick it up when there is a receptionist. It could be problematic too....
Otherwise the location is good........that's probably the only good thing about it. But Venice is so full of hotels and hostels, if you look around, you can probably find much better places.
