Owner description: Venice's main water thoroughfare, lined with great Renaissance palaces, is a colorful and busy spectacle of gondolas and vaporetti.

The hussle & bussle of the Grand Canal, the architecture of the house right down to the water & well worth seeing. Travel on the water bus you get a great feel for the city, an experience NOT to be missed

On a sunny day the Grand Canal is magical! Take the water bus, vaporetto, down the canal. This was the place to live for rich Venetians. It is a true Disneyland; you have to pinch yourself to believe it is real. The water buses are too crowded and too expensive at 7 euros a trip.

Buy a vaporetti pass for the time that you are in Venice, and then enjoy unlimited on-off privileges. While these “buses” of Venice can get unholy crowded, they do save your feet lots of wear and tear, are scenic if you can squeeze to an outer edge (or get a seat if early/late), and are MUCH cheaper than the water taxis or gondolas. Do enjoy the full cruise of the Canal as least once, which you can do much more comfortably if you go early or late and start at the bus station for the best chance at seats. Do cruise earlier in the morning and later in the evening to fully appreciate this marvelous little mode of transportation and the beauty and uniqueness that is Venice. Take it into St. Mark’s Square at night, listen to the orchestras, and enjoy the “fireworks” hawked by the local boys. It is magical – soak it all in!

If ever there was a place, to make you say WOW, then this is it, from the first moment we saw it with the sun just setting to every day thereafter it didn't lose its appeal.

Should be one of the seven wonders of the world, it is inspiring and magnificent and bustling and a living working lane of life, enjoy

To go to Venice and not go down the Grand Canal is criminal. It and San Marco are the very symbols of Venice and for good reason. They are unique and fabulous. You can take a tour down it, but we just used the regular vaporetto service and found it met our needs just fine. In 2.5 days, we went 1.5 times. If we had time, we would have gone again. In fact I would have gone around all the canals if we had the time

I guarantee this will be one of the most memorable of your memories.
