Owner description: Venice's main water thoroughfare, lined with great Renaissance palaces, is a colorful and busy spectacle of gondolas and vaporetti.

I think it's impossible to travel to venice without boating through the Grand Canal. The canal is classic Venice.

If you want to escape the multitudes of day trippers cramming for a snap shot spot on the Rialto Bridge, make your way to the Accademia Bridge. Calmer and even has a vaporeeto(ferry) stop. View travels down the canal with the quintessential domed peaks. Perfecto day and night!

Bustling with water traffic of all kinds from humble barges, and vaporettos, to speedy water taxis, private launches, and gleaming gondolas full of slightly self-conscious tourists having a great time - and all this against a backdrop of architectural wonders!

We stayed in an apartment which looked out onto the grand canal. We were so lucky to have experienced Venice like this.To open the shutters each morning to gondolas going by was magical. The canal was photo worthy all day long.

We stayed in the Castello area of Venice. It was the most expensive way, but an entirely enjoyable way, in getting a water taxi from the train station. This took in a great deal of the grand canal. A very picturesque way of seeing Venice.
Lots of colours and very old buildings. It can get quite busy with other river craft but this adds to the journey.
