Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“Great”

The Piazza de San Marco is packed with tourists and busy. The Basilica is impressive and full of art. You can walk to near its top and get a great view of everything. A great area for walking and exploring. Walk around Venice and take a Gondola ride. We were with a tour and they had everything organized. The ride was great with a musician singing ballads. A beatiful city great for walking and exploring.

An extremely busy and popular square understandably so with so many iconic features its hard to know where to look first, take in the atmosphere and just enjoy a walk around, window shop everything is expensive and then relax in a bar or café off the square.

As they say, the first sighting is breathtaking and wow this is a great space. The second at night is charming and wow. The third is blighted by the crowds and tacky stalls and you've had enough.

“Get there early is the advice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

A must see on your visit to Venice. Fabulous architecture with a magical feeling. It is amusing to read other reviewers critics that this square is overcrowed by tourists... as a major attraction it cannot be else. Suggestions: visit the square very early, skip the coffees and restaurants around the square.
