Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“Avoid in Summer”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

I first visited San Marco in January, and I'm so glad I did. It is so crowded with tourists in the summer that I ended up avoiding it when possible. I say it's very good because of my first visit there, but would not recommend it in high tourist season.

“tourist central”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

get here early in the morning, because later there is no space, there will be so many tourists.

the basilica of St Marco and the tower of st Marco is located here as well. lots of performers everywhere and good restaurants around.

try to avoid the restaurants on the piazza, super expensive, like having an espresso is about 4Euros.

really nice place, floods easy. so if it is raining, wear appropriate footwear.

“So Expensive”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

We have never seen coffee, albeit with orchestra playing, for 18 Euros. We decided to pass on this experience. It is a beautiful square however.

A very busy square especially when the cruise ships are in port. Restaurants there are very expensive. Beware if pushy salesmen
