Great location but hey, you can buy coffee just off the square and enjoy the view for free.....

Coffee and slice of cake each for two people = € 70 bill......

We enjoyed the live music and was expecting a bill around that number as the ice creams are like €20 each....

So be certain that this is the place for you......

Having a drink in St Mark's Square in the sunshine was on my 'to do' list during my first visit to Venice. Chose this café/restaurant as it was attractive, was adjacent to the Basilica and had live 4-piece orchestra playing light classical music. Lovely but you do have to pay a high cover charge for the privilege - the staff are very discreet in advising you of the charge. Well worth the expense for the experience. We stayed for an hour and whiled away the time people watching! Staff speak excellent English are very well trained and turned out and certainly look after customers.

We sat down knowing it was kind of a "tourist trap" due to it's location, but we didn't care, as it was sunny and they were playing nice music. We had the typical Spritz Veneziano and some snacks. It was nice. **Crazy Fact: They charge 6€ (per person! HA!) for "listening to the music that was playing".

We had the pleasure of spending a few glorious hours people watching while sipping on a (very expensive - 15Euros each) Campari Spritz. It was during the Venice Carnival and we had a perfect afternoon in the sun. The atmosphere was fantastic with hundreds of people dressing up and parading around St Marks Sq. So it was a once in a lifetime experience and the extravagance suited the occasion.

Take a seat outside looking towards the Square, savour the view whilst people watching, a great way to pass half an hour or so. A little expensive, but treat yourself once, it's something that cannot be equalled by any other cafe in any other City. You may be lucky and be serenaded by the Quartet. Enjoy. Salute.
