“Winter City Break”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

This hotel is ranked as one of the top places to stay in Venice. The choice was Cipriani or Danieli and i went for the latter due to its central location. i chose a lagoon view room, which offered lovely views. However, late night noise at circa 3 am etc was a problem. if you value your sleep i would head to a back room or a quieter location. Breakfast was inclusive but was average - fruit was fine as was the coffee, but pastries and hot offerings could have been better.

Staff were pleasant enough but reception was undermanned at key times. Prices in the hotel are on the very high side. i guess you would expect that....but frankly if you are going to pay 25 dollars for a glass of white wine there are better spots to enjoy your libation.

The hotel is very old (700 years) so you would expect some older style fixtures and fittings....but i would still like to see power showers, bigger baths, better toiletries and better TVs in rooms.

The upside if the central location. Close to all the main sites and walking distance to some good bars and restaurants.

Dear jfulli007,
Thank you for your sharing your detailed feedback of your stay. It was pleasing to see that you enjoyed and appreciated the hotel’s unique location in the centre of Venice. Our associates work hard to create memorable service experiences for our guests and when we fail to do so we are naturally very disappointed and regret it immensely. We sincerely apologise that you felt that staff was not completely responsive and we will certainly use your feedback to improve service to enhance the overall guest experience. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hotel Danieli on your future visits. Best regards,

We stayed here for 4 nights in February for my husbands 50th birthday. I can't begin to express what an amazing stay we had.

The hotel is totally breathtaking, by far the best hotel in Venice. As previous reviews have said it is expensive to eat and drink at this hotel. (so is the whole of Venice!! ) But in my opinion it's worth every penny.

The service you receive from the staff from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave is wonderful. From reception to house keeping. Always a smile and a friendly hello.

We had breakfast at the hotel on 2 occasions. This really is a must if yr budget allows. The food is delicious with so much to choose from. The views from the terrace are spectacular and should not b missed.

The rooms are beautiful. Beds are so comfortable. Great nights sleep. Plenty of hot water for showers and baths.

This hotel is 2 minutes walk away from St marks square. Water buses and taxis to take you to anywhere you need to go. Use the public water busses to go up and down the canal. Best way to see Venice. Get off and on as many times as you like for a reasonable price.

Lots of places to eat drink if your on a tighter budget.
Don't b scared to go off for a wonder. Lots of little alleys to explore. You really can't get lost!!

I would highly recommend this hotel. A truly wonderful hotel in a magical place.

We stayed here February 6-11th and had a wonderful time. The hotel is elegant, in a perfect location to all attractions, the staff very friendly and helpful. Yes, as noted in prior reviews eating and drinking here is very expensive, but you can work around this as there are so many other places to go in close proximity. All in all, we loved Venice and would definitely stay here again in the future.

I stayed at the Hotel Danieli on a business trip that was also my first visit to Venice. I received an upgraded room with an excellent view. The room was very clean and the internet signal was fast and stable. The TV was excellent and had HD signal. The hotel staff went out of their way on every occasion to help make my stay enjoyable. The air conditioning system in the room was great and kept the room at a satisfactory temperature.

The hotel does not have a fitness center. There is one within a 5 minute walk that costs 20 Euros per day. The hotel restaurant was excellent and merits a return visit.

One note about this property. When booking on the Starwood web site the rooms do not specify smoking or non-smoking. The web page does say that requests will be honored but you do not receive a guaranteed non-smoking room. While this was not an issue during my stay, I did learn that if you call the Starwood reservation line they can look at room inventory by smoking category and provide you with a guaranteed non-smoking room.

Room Tip: If you need a guaranteed non-smoking room call the Starwood reservation number.

We have just had three fantastic nights in the Danieli. In summary, difficult to fault the hotel or staff, overall fantastic experience. However, it is pricey and therefore, not being wealthy, we only ate in the Danieli restaurant on one evening and had only two courses (my wife and I) and a cheap bottle of wine (about 55 Euros and there were bottles on the wine-list of a handful of 1,000's each so out of my league) and the final bill came to 360 Euro's. Our room had a partial view of the lagoon, which we didn't expect, and consisted of a hallway, walk in wardrobe with a safe and mini-bar, the most amazing and very large bathroom with marble walls and floors and twin sinks and great shower over bath and dressing gowns and too many toiletries for words (but the loo paper was a bit thin and weedy - I had to find something to criticise). Bedroom was spacious and like the rest of the hotel the walls were drapped with silk rather than papered. The MOST comfortable beds you could hope for and flat panel TV and couple of chairs and dressing table. excellent curtains and amazing chandelier with Murano glass drops. We took a private Water Taxi both ways (we stayed at the Danieli because my wife loves that film called The Tourist with Johny Depp and Angelina Jolie) and it was 175 Euros to be met at the airport and taken to the Water Taxis or 110 Euros to make your own way between airport and taxi's. In hindsight you should take the cheaper option because it's a seven minute walk under cover from the airport to the waters edge. I highly recommend the Water Taxi because it's much faster (20 minutes compared to 75 mins sharing a public Water Taxi) and you disembark right onto the Danieli's side door, bit glamerous. We booked both ways through the Danieli. The staff are just so good, very friendly and helpful and not haughty and speak great English. Back to the costs. We booked via Expedia and got a good deal but here's a for-instance. If you want to take breakfast in your room there's an 8 Euro's surcharge. Continental breakfast is 42 Euros each and if you push the boat out and want A la Carte then you can mix and match; coffee (10) fruit (20) fried eggs (18) omelette (24) cold cuts (29) and many more but my favourite is Corn-flakes at 12 Euros. Whilst there you must see Harry's Bar, and wonder why it's famous, have tea in the Florian, take a 70 Euro Gondola ride from the Rialto Bridge (or like me get charged 120 for the same thing) of course take in St Marks Square and go up the campanile and into the Doge's Palace and all the popular sights. Our second dinner was at a sister hotel called the Gritti Palace which is fantastic and I recommend you eat there. Our third and last dinner was the cheapest at only 155 Euro's and by then I had suspended any connection between prices and British Pounds that I almost whooped with joy at such a bargain. Get a good map and enjoy walking the narrow streets. Enjoy not seeing any car's and realise that there are lots of signs to either Rialto Bridge or St Marks Square that you really can't get too lost and everyone is so friendly.Venice is teeming with groups of Chinese and so the clever storekeepers are now hiring multilingual staff. We had a fantastic time but I am not looking forwards to paying my credit-card bill. It's only money!

Room Tip: Try and get a view of the Lagoon

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights before going on a cruise. While it was a little confusing / difficult to get here from the VCE airport, the overall location can't be beat for Venice. Close to St. Mark's square, and a number of water bus stops right in front of you make it simple to get wherever you want to go, let alone just walking around and exploring Venice. The hotel is one of the most interesting (in a good way) properties I've sen. Only down side was our room was "upgraded" to a Jr Suite, but we went from a lagoon view to a room overlooking the building next door and an alleyway. One thing to keep in mind is the light controls are a little difficult to use in the room to turn lights on / off, and there is a main power switch at the door that actually controls the power for the entire suite.

Perfect location. Beautiful architecture and interior decorating. Very helpful and courteous staff.
Would return without question however very expensive.

Morning breakfast/brunch on the rooftop terrace restaurant is completely amazing with your view of the bustling Venice waterways.

Large rooms but a bit dated. Stayed one level up from standard. Believe it was deluxe.

Very expensive!!!!!
