This was a difficult hotel to review as we are not five star people!! Leaving that aside, the hotel is beautiful. We had a suite which was enormous - entry hall, 2 sitting rooms, 2 bathrooms, large bedroom, walk in closet, and windows overlooking a small canal full of gondolas! The breakfast is very extensive and served on a beautiful terrace overlooking the Grand Canal, and there is also a restaurant and a bar. The hotel also has its own spa on Giudecca and a shuttle service is available. The service at the hotel is exemplary. The hotel is also very close to St Marks Square and the Vaporetto station. If you are a 5 star traveller looking for a genuine 5 star experience then the Bauer cannot be faulted.

The reason I have taken a point off is that from our perspective, it was astoundingly expensive. The room service menu included €9 for an espresso and €22 for a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, and we always felt a little underdressed and that we were seen by the staff as not genuine 5 star travellers!! However this is more our problem than the hotel's.

Room Tip: The suites are either 2 bathroom facing little the side canal, or one bathroom with a terrace

The only place that was nice about this Hotel was where the breakfast and dinner was served, overlooking the water and the location was good. However my room was old, smelled moldy, bathroom was dull so if a female needed extra lighting for hair and make-up, forget it. My view was of a very high wall and it was about 8 feet from the window which made it look like it was late in the afternoon, even in the mornings. Room service was terrible, I phoned and phoned for a wake up call at 5.45am, no one answered, finally had to go to reception myself, then the wake-up call came at 6.55am, phoned room service, again no answer!! The breakfast and dinner staff were pleasant. One bar staff was not pleasant. Air-conditioning was noisy and it would not turn off.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view other than a green wall.

What a great hotel. My wife and I stayed here for three nights for our 20th wedding anniversary. At check in we were given an upgrade to a canal view and a bottle if prosecco. Little touches that go a real long way. Breakfast stunning with views to match! Staff very attentive and hotel could not be better located.

Quality hotel you can tell the owners take pride in their hotel. Not another hotel chain. Suites are very large! So nice! Perfectly located next to St. Marks Square and all the nice restaurants. I really must say it's a great value compared to the other large hotels. You're not directly on the canal so it's quieter yet you're privileged enough to be surrounded by the best and next to Bauer Il Palazzo

Room Tip: If you're a late sleeper bring ear plugs as usual. That's not the hotel's fault. It's typical being on the canal. ;)

Our hotel room had a great view of the canal and was just a couple blocks from St Marks square. You could open the window and hear some people singing on the gondolas, which was very lovely. The rooms are a good size, and have an electrical system with many switches that takes some getting used to. The front desk staff spoke english and the concierge staff spoke both english and spanish. The hotel has a beautiful bar/restaurant that is right on the water with a wonderful view. Breakfast was included with our stay, but we weren't able to go because we overslept. WIFI was available, but not included for the price. It cost $20 for the entire stay, whether for one night, or several, which was reasonable. One of the concierge staffers told us that all restaurants in Venice close at 10:30, but some are actually open until midnight. Some of the staff seemed a bit snooty, but that seems to come with the territory at a 5 star hotel. They did not have an iron available as per "company policy", and instead encouraged us to use their laundry service, which is a ridiculous 15 Euro for a shirt. If you dont mind paying for convenience, I would recommend this place. Just an FYI: Venice is expensive in general and hard to get around.
