First of all, the location is great: the hotel is literally within minutes of the vaparetto station. Entering the hotel is impressive and first impressions were very favourable. But first impressions often lie!

When I arrived our room wasn't yet ready - no problem except that our suitcases were thrown into a corner with no visible protection. We ordered a lunch while we waited - a simple salad of boiled vegetables with an olive oil dressing came to nearly e30 a head. A little pricey, but still....The shock came when we finally got our room. Apparently breakfast was not included in our rate. It would cost us e20 for a coffee and croissant or e50 for a so-called 'English breakfast'. We were certainly not going to pay that when we could get something much cheaper in a cafe, which we did. Worse was to come though. We decided to relax with a gin and tonic (1 each) in the hotel. This came to e46. A simple g&t cost e23! Needless to say we didn't drink or eat at the hotel again.

There were other problems as well. We found the service from the concierges varied a great deal. The night concierge was the most helpful. The one in the day-time was quite rude and had to be prompted to provide basic information. I have been in other hotels in Venice where the staff have been extremely helpful. The Bauer was a disappointment in that regard.

Overall, the Bauer lives on its location. However, there are equally good hotels in its vicinity which offer a much better service. This is a five star hotel with no internet access and inflated prices. My advice, try somewhere else!

After a really WONDERFUL stay at the Bauer I can honestly recommend this lovely hotel to anyone wanting to stay in a hotel that is private and romantic! The location of the hotel is what really makes it so wonderful and if like myself you can get a good price by definitley booking way ahead you will save a load of money! Breakfast is quite steep to pay otherwise and at 50 euro nearly per person it all add's up! The breakfast I agree needs alittle upgrading but really if it's included you still get a really good choise also with champayne (Italian) on offer also as well as hot and cold buffet on option. The view and experience of sitting out on the terrace is worth it alone you feel like royalty! Also there is a set up that you don't just sit down you have to ask and wait to the side until they sit you alot of people were just sitting down and they will move you politely if you do and someone else is waiting over at the desk. We stayed in the Casa Nova annex area of the hotel there are 2 area's to stay in the main hotel and the Casa Nova. The casa nova room we had was really lovely so... clean one of the cleanest bathroom's I have ever been in and all the amenities were fabulous very luxurious bath product's and towels slippers bathrobes. Although we did not have a view it didn't matter to us as they upgraded us to a suite for my husband's 40th so it is worth mentioning this when booking and we had a non-smoking room. They also sent up a bottle of champayne(Italian) to us with compliments a really wonderful touch! So I would have no hesitation in recommending this very efficent hotel to stay in you could not get better in Venice if this is what you are looking for also a wonderful little expensive but special resturant to eat in is the Bistro De Venise 10 min. walk the most amazing food with little extra's added really lovely! Enjoy. Also there is an offer of a shared water taxi with the Bauer hotel guests from Marco polo airport very good service, you book and pay for it through the hotel on depature. It is 30 euro per person each way a real gem to get right from the hotel step it is really alot cheaper than 100 euro each way other wise its called the shared water taxi service. I can not wait to return again to the lovely Bauer Hotel!!

We were pleasantly surprided by the Bauer Hotel. Though we were located in the new wing we had excellent views over the city. Great bed. And very helpfull staff.
Price versus quality wqas absolutely OK. The brakfast was fabulous beacuse of the terrace outside on the waterfront at the entrance of the Grand Canal opposite the old Customs Building;

We have stayed at many different hotels during previous visits to vednice, but this time we decided to splurge and get a historic hotel in an amazing location.
We stayed twice at the Bauer Il Palazzo during this cruise in and out of Venice. At the begining of our trip we had three junior suites that were all different but very nicely decorated i the style of a Venecian Palazzo with baroque patterns in the walls, gilded funrtirue and of course Murano chandeliers. We did not have any spectacular views out fo any fo the junior suites.
Breakfast in the rooftop restaurnat was one of the highlights of our stay, you simply cannot imagine a more beautiful view; you can see live in the grand canal at your feet with the awesome Santa Maria Maggiore directly across form the hotel.
It was a multi-generational group and some of the older folks did have a few issues with getting around the hotel, it is not easly accessible. One afternoon we hired an accessible water taxi for the evening and spent our time enjoying the sights form the water and eating at a different hotel.
There were also a few restaurants close to the hotel and it was an easy walk to St. Mark's.
We had dinner at the hotel one time and the food was good, but we would've expected mroe for the cost of the food.
One the back end of our trip we switched two of our junior suites for real full size suites because they were more accesible and they were even more amazing than our rpevious rooms; the views themselves of the Grand Canal were worth every penny.
We are glad we choose this hotel for our latest stay in Venice.

We stayed at the Bauer for the last 3 nights of our honeymoon at the beginning of March. We would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is in the heart of Florence and easily accessible from both the train station and airport. We took the train from Florence and upon arrival located the public transportation boat which dropped us off 1 block from the hotel. From that point we never needed to take the boats again (with the exception of going to Mirano) since the hotel is in such a central location.
The service was fantastic. From check in till check out, everyone helped make our stay perfect. We dined in the restaurant the first night in Venice. The food was top notch, up there with the other Michelin rated restaurants we ate at on our trip.
Our room rate included breakfast which was serviced in the restaurant. The breakfast consisted of quite a large buffet spread with pastries, meats, etc.
The concierge was always available to coordinate a water taxi to Mirano, dinner reservations, etc. The only disappointment with the concierge was in terms of transportation back to the airport. We'd asked for options and they told us that the private taxi would cost 100 E and take 40 minutes and the public boat would take an hour. We opted for the public boat and when we got to the dock, learned that they have 2 options, one that gets you there in 40 minutes and only cost 50E total.
This hotel was a perfect way to end our honeymoon and we can't wait to return in the future.
