“Lovely both outside and in”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

This church is a lovely oasis of coolness and beauty in a hot city. It is free to enter too.

The church is more of an octagon than the traditional layout which is unusual but allows you walk around the edge and marvel at the height of the central dome.

“Huge but very nice.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Situated across the Grand Canal from St Marc's Square, this huge Basilica stands out as it shines white on a sunny day. It is open to the public and photography is allowed. It is quite ornate inside.

“Beautiful exterior”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

The location is wonderful with a grand view across Canale Grande toward St. Mark's square. The church's architecure is interesting but the interior is disappointing. Not worth a trip unless you have much time.

“Magnificent church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

Breathtaking ceiling frescos, gold and gold guilting throughout the church.

Great location, in walking distance to our B&B.

Church was dedicated to, and made by many of the black plague's victims, and their surviving members.

If you only want to visit one church, this is the one to visit!,

“Beautiful Church at End of Grand Canal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

This is a lovely place to visit and escape the tourist crunch areas. It was built by survivors of a plague I believe to thank St. Mary and God for survival. It makes a good Vaporetto stop either on your way to or from San Marco Square. Easy to access by vaporetto.
