One morning during our recent vacation in Venice my wife and I decided to head off to the Naval History Museum in Venice and we were both pleasantly surprised with what we found. This attraction is substantially under-rated. The cost is nominal 1.40 Euro. The place is packed fully of historical artifacts left over from battles that are depicted on the walls of the Doge's Palace. There are displays covering every aspect of the Venetian naval experience including the gondola. You'll find Peggy Guggenheim's gondola on one of the upper floors (the fourth I think). There are rings from marriage with the sea ceremonies. We also found a reproduction of the cruise ship my wife sailed on in her first visit to Italy with her family in the early 1960's. Leave yourself plenty of time to explore this place in depth. More good news, it is not crowded.
