“Charming hotel hidden away in a quiet street”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel San Cassiano earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. We arrived by private water taxi from the airport which was a fantastic although pricey experience, but just had to be done when staying on the Grand Canal in Venice. The location of the hotel was good, we were within walking distance of all major sights but in a quiet area so no problem with noise at night. It was a bit tricky finding our way back to the hotel after our first trip out but there is something lovely about getting lost in Venice!! Our room was on the top floor which was fine for us but do be aware if you don't do stairs as there are no lifts! This is because this beautiful building is 600 years old! We had a side glimpse of the canal from our balcony, and I think if we were to stay in Venice again would definately pay the extra to have a canal view room. Our room was lovely and authentically decorated with traditional furniture, bathroom was a decent size with good shower and very clean. Breakfast was served on the 2nd floor in a lovely sunny room with doors which opened up onto a balcony where we usually sat and had our morning coffee watching life on the Grand Canal. Buffet style breakfast with the usual hot and cold choices but everything was fresh and constantly replenished by the pleasant staff. The staff on Reception were welcoming and helpful and always polite and courteous - wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra charge for a Grand Canal view - definately worth it.

This is a very nice Hotel and is beautifully presented. It is hundreds of years old and has some character. There is no lift but there are only three floors so didn't present a problem to us but may be worthwhile considering if mobility is an issue. Breakfast was first class and the staff were superb. Hotel location is quite good. For us the bar was a weak link for this Hotel. When we wanted a drink we usually had to wait for someone to leave off other duties to come and attend the bar. Often, the bar is a social hub for any Hotel. Not the case here.
The Rooms were very nice and of reasonable size.
Overall, I would stay here again and certainly recommend to others.

My wife booked us in here for 1 night as a complete surprise for my 50th Birthday (The surprise extended to flying us out from London Stanstead for 1 night !).

We travel a lot and normally stay very much budget - and this was a rare blow out. We found the place quite easily (But this was our 5th visit to Venice so we were used to navigating the small backstreets). It is a little out of the way - but all the better for it.

Reception were very friendly - perfect English (And Fench and German.....). We had the Canal view room on the 3rd floor. The hotel are quite upfront about there being no lift but there was a porter on hand to take the case up the pretty steep stairs.

Room was gorgeous - highlight the 2 windows out onto the Grand Canal. Bliss - an absolute dream come true. Wifi was free - one code per device but it didn't expire or anything weird.

Breakfast was ok - possibly the only thing about the hotel which was not top notch - but good enough nonetheless. The dining room however well decked out.

We had a dreamy coffee late at night on the small porch at the canal side of the hotel which allows one a glorious view of the canal and the boats plying their way up and down in the dark.

All in all a Hotel we can thoroughly recommend.

Room Tip: Canal view - excellent.

Booked this hotel through lowcost travel. Great hotel in quiet location but on the grand canal. Only had a side room but very impressed. The waterbus stops about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Staff are brilliant and extremely helpful. Breakfast is superb and plentiful. A great location for exploring. Would recommend this hotel for anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the canal but be aware it can be noisy due to the water buses

This was our first trip to Venice and my husband and I would definitely return to this hotel. Situated on the Grand Canal, you cannot ask for a better location. Our room was on the third floor, very spacious with a living area and bedroom area. Two windows overlooked the Grand Canal. Very large bath and the entire property is spotless. We enjoyed sitting on the dock with our cappuccino or relaxing in the courtyard. They offered a delicious breakfast in a gorgeous breakfast room. Met the owner, Carlo, who was a wealth of information. His son Giovanni and the rest of the front desk staff were more than accommodating. We especially loved the location, as it gave you reason to meander through the streets of Venice on your way to San Marco Square or Rialto Bridge. Thank you for making our trip a memorable one.

We stayed in a quad room with two big windows overlooking the Grand Canal. It was wonderful! Room and bathroom were spacious and well-appointed and the hotel location was perfect near the Fish Market (no smell!) and Rialto. Despite being on the busy canal, the room was very quiet and dark and we slept well. Our kids enjoyed playing games at the table downstairs while we enjoyed the outside deck overlooking the canal. Breakfast was our best one in Italy with eggs, sausage and bacon in addition to the normal continental and the room was bright and cheerful overlooking the Canal. The lobby is charming in traditional Venetian style with Murano chandeliers. The front desk staff were very welcoming and helpful and advised us of a great trattoria for lunch around the corner and Poste Vecie near the fish market for our best meal in Venice. A wonderful time all around -- just too short!

This hotel is perfect for a stay in Venice, positioned centrally in a quiet neighbourhood close to the Rialto Bridge and Market. It has both history and charm by the bucket load and you can sit outside on the decking overlooking the Grand Canal and watch the world go by, absolutely fascinating.

Our room was on the ground floor it had a low beamed ceiling and was a good size, nicely decorated in venetian style and had a modern bathroom and was very clean, it had no views but who wants to spend a lot of time in their room when in a city as beautiful as Venice, if you need a view get a drink and sit outside on the decking.

All of the staff were very helpful and communicated well in English the breakfast was also very good for a small hotel and coffee on the balcony afterwards is highly recommended.

This is a perfect retreat after a hard day sightseeing and for the price we paid we could not fault it.
