“Pleasant location, good value”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

We had the best room in the hotel, with a view over the canal and the park opposite (we booked early on the hotel's website). The location was good for bus, train and cruise port transport. The staff were very efficient and polite, and the breakfast was much better than our previous hotel in Venice!. Very enjoyable experience.

Great location, across from both Train and rail stations. Only two small bridges to cross whilst dragging suitcases. Very close to vaporetto stops for getting into the center of Venice or any of the other islands. Forget Murano and Burano...you must visit Lido. We also were given the room behind the reception. Nice but small. Beautiful newly renovated bathroom. However, very loud due to proximity to lobby and kitchen. Friendly staff but no Internet in hotel .

We found this hotel through dein deal and got a very good price, however due to the good price I think they gave us the smallest room right behind the reception.
Saying that though, it was a cute little room with a very nice bathroom. The hotel itself is lovely on the inside!
The location was great, close to the train station. Right on the grand canal. It is about a 40 minute walk to St Marks, but we didn't mind as we were out of the hustle and bustle. There are lots of gorgeous little restaurants and shops nearby.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was good.

Venice is expensive - full stop. This hotel was at the cheaper end of the range and cost £128 per night including breakfast for a double room. Looking at other hotels I think this ir reasonably good value. Don't forget that you must add 12 Euros per head - local tax (for 4 nights).

The hotel fronts on to a canal less than 5 mins walk from the bus station (Piazzale Roma) and 5 mins walk from the train station. Nearest vaporetto stop is also 5 minutes so excellent location. Being so near it is also easy to find - the further you walk the more likely you will get lost!!! The entrance hall and reception is very plush - the reception desk is in a small room off the entrance hall and is a big office desk - a bit like entering the headmaster's study!! Staff though were all very friendly and our room was ready by 2pm.

The bedroom was not too small but adequate with enough room to walk around the bed easily and a writing table , small chaise longue and a double old cupboard for clothes - there were no drawers. The decor was a bit odd but I guess in keeping with the theme - the walls were ragged in a tuscan orange/brown with a mural behind the bed in the same colour. It was quite well done but on first sight the walls had a look of being unfinished. There was a chandelier and bedside lights - a TV but only local channels and no radio. A phone to reception. The view was over a small garden courtyard. There was air conditioning but it was either ineffective or not yet turned on as it was May.

The bathroom was tiny - possibly the tiniest I have been in - very narrow with a basin, bidet, toilet and shower. All were in good order and clean and the shower was adequate.

Breakfast was in a dining room at the back of the ground floor - similarly decorated but bright and clean. The chairs looked a bit like they came from the TV show 'Fat Gypsy's Wedding' (you'll have to look that one up if you're not from UK) - white leatherette upholstered 'antique style' chairs....but again not out of keeping with the general decor. Breakfast was typical of southern Europe - fruit juice (from machine concentrate),rolls (not that soft) cooked meats, cheese, cereal, boiled eggs, cake and fruit with a pleasant lady in charge to fetch coffee and water for tea. I think pretty good really.

All in all I would definitely stay there again - mainly because of the position but also pleasantly surprised at how nice it was.

Tips - Venice is expensive and you will often find a 2 euro cover charge per person added to meal bills. Avoid drinks and meals in obvious tourist positions - ie - anywhere along Grand Canal, Rialto bridge and of course St Mark's Square. Do what I said earlier and get lost you will come across some gems. One of the places I loved was Campo Sta Margherita - 10 mins from hotel near to the university - at night it is full of a mix of students, kids playing football and of course tourists - but not too many - 4-5 restaurants nearby and most quite good - cheapest beer was in in the Caffe Rosso on the west side of the square - 4.9 euros for a pint - and believe me that is cheap for Venice! Buy a 3 day vaporetto blue ticket for unlimited use for 72 hrs - remember to validate before first use. Even if you have a vaporetto map - check at the stops to see which number goes where because they change and you could end up somewhere you didn't intend. Finally don't forget Burano - a bit further out than the glass island of Murano but the little coloured rows of houses are beautiful.

Room Tip: I was in room 19 and it was as described.

Stayed for 3 nites. The location was very good interms of near the train station but very far from St MArks square. Hotel is nice, spacious room and very quaint bathroom.Only thing 1st floor room may be abit noisy as it is overlooking a main street. NO hot water in room. If hotel supply hot water in a flask would have been prefect! Wifi althugh available but always down. Only managed to use 1 time during the whole time! No other place to get internet access.

Room Tip: Rooms not overlooking the canal -nice view but noisy late aT NITE.

Great position only 5 mins walk to Bus and train stations and it has a lift!! Room was good size and clean. Breakfast reasonable - although not up to the standard of the cruise we had just been on! Nice lounge downstairs and quiet canalside setting. Good base to explore the whole of Venice island and beyond.

My friend and I had the opportunity to stay in Hotel Gardena in September 2011. What a charming place! The staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms were neat and clean. I would stay here again anytime! It was very near the bus station and easy to get to.
