I specifically chose this hotel as it is literally 5 minutes walk from the bus station, 'People Mover' and train station. We were staying here after a cruise and all we had to do was get the 'People Mover' from the cruise terminal (cost just 1 Euro each and just a 5 minute ride) to Piazzale Roma, where we were able to walk to the Hotel Gardena. Admittedly you do have to carry suitcases over 2 bridges but I'd rather have the money for a meal.
The hotel is on a small canal and in a quiet location despite being minutes from the many attractions in Venice. Our room had a view of a quaint courtyard and was adequate for our needs. Comfortable bed, tv, fridge (which was stocked with bottled water) and a somewhat outdated but clean bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast was offered in a pleasant dining room.
The hotel was very accommodating in looking after our luggage so that we could spend our final day seeing as much of Venice before catching our late night flight home.
This is a budget hotel and yet its proximity to vital transport links was a godsend to us. We were originally booked into an area known as Mestre, which is a very long way from Venice island; a cab/bus journey in fact. A lot of advertisements for cheap weekends to Venice don't explain clearly that you will be staying in Mestre and had we not changed our booking we would not have seen as much of Venice as we eventually did.
I would stay at this hotel again so that we can spend money on lovely, romantic dinners by the Grand Canal and have a leisurely walk home.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights, after the first night we were upgraded to a canal view room which was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, breakfast was in a lovely little dining room and we found the website photos were very accurate.

The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly and he was most helpful during our stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in two different rooms over the three days we were there, and perhaps the rooms on the can...

The hotel is located close to the station, you have to cross just the one bridge and walk for about 5-10 mins to get there. The lobby was fancy with marble throughout and the concierge was very friendly. Since the lobby was so grand we were expecting our room to be the same, but was sorely disappointed. The room was tiny, the bed, the cupboard and TV stand took up most of the room, and our luggages made the moving space even smaller, so we couldn't really move around freely in the room. My partner who is Italian was chatting to house keeping in the morning and was told that we had one of the smallest rooms in the hotel and next time if we book ask not to be in the corner rooms. There is a coin operated launderette just a couple of blocks around the corner from here, which was great as we needed to get a fair bit of washing done. All in all it was a good hotel in a good location with some friendly and helpful staff.

We booked in for four nights and were pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel was. Our room was small, but we didn't spend much time there. It was very clean and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a relaxing continental with plenty of choice and pleasant service. There were several eating places nearby that we could sit out and eat at in the day or inside in the evening, at much more reasonable prices than near the centre. The hotel was easy to get to from the bus station with a main vaporetto station a short walk down the main canal to pick up transport to most parts.

Room Tip: Ask to see before moving in some are bigger than others.

Some travel writers claim the area around the rail station is "seedy". Not so. We stayed at the Gardena with a room overlooking the small canal that connects to the Grand Canal just about 60 meters from the San Simione Piccolo. What a great place, friendly staff, clean and comfy, and an easy walk to catch the vaporetto BEFORE it gets packed at the rail station. Best of all, just down the canal about 100 meters is the best and cheapest wine bar in all of Venice, Bacareto Da Lele.

We booked this hotel as we wanted to stay in a typical Venetian hotel. We ended up in a purpose built room just across the patio, the only room not actually in the hotel! It rained pretty much the entire time we were in Venice and since our room was across the patio we had to make a dash each time we left our room to get inside the hotel. Inside, the room was small but well decorated and clean. The bathroom was also rather small, my husband had to crouch to fit under the shower. The safe had been locked open and when I approached the reception area for help the gentleman simply told me they were new safes and he didn't know the codes. We had to put our valuables in the main hotel safe instead, he looked at me like I was mad when i asked for some sort of receipt for the items we placed in the safe. There was router next to the wardrobe that flashed constantly which was quite annoying at night. When we arrived we turned on the air conditioning as the room was very hot, then the cleaner came in and turned on the heating again.

The breakfast was reasonable, a couple of cereal options, some yoghurts, fruit and pastries and tea, coffee or fruit juice.

The location was good, we wanted to be near the train and bus stations so we didn't have to go too far with our cases, it only took about five minutes to get from the train station to the hotel. It took a while to get to the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square but we don't mind walking.

Overall it was a comfortable stay but could so easily have been so much nicer.

We recently stayed in this hotel. The initial impression of the hotel was good, good location close to the bus terminal with a lovely foyer.
Unfortunately this was spoiled by the rude and unhelpful man at reception. The room was a major disappointment, the carpet was threadbare and dirty, the glasses for the complimentary bottle of wine were dirty. We couldn't open the bathroom window because of a note warning of mosquitoes, they came in the main window anyway, we obviously weren't the first to experience this as there were marks all over the ceiling.
To cap it all off i found toe nail clippings next to the bed under the phone which remained there for our stay, in fact the floor wasn't hoovered during this time.
Not to mention stains on the valence sheet.
I didn't mention this to the guy at reception due to his previous lack of help.
I would advise people to avoid this hotel and spend their money on a clean hotel.

Room Tip: avoid room 37, filthy and small
