“Fantastic Location”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

A rather beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. It was great to be so close to St. Mark's square, and a short distance away from everything we wanted to see and do. Arriving by private water taxi from the train station (while pricey,) was incredibly convenient and picturesque. The staff was competent (though not overly-friendly,) and we enjoyed our visit. The room was quite large and very well-appointed.

Room Tip: We would have loved a room with a Grand Canal view... looking into a neighboring apartments windows...

We just spent two nights at the Westin Europa & Regina. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is perfectly situated on the banks of the canal. Our room had a fantastic view of all the activity on the canal, and was a perfect introduction to this amazing city. The property was formerly 18th and 19th century homes, with quite an illustrious history. All of this makes for a special stay.

The entry to the hotel from the water is beautiful, with marble and intricate detailing. The rooms continue the same feel. The bathrooms are beautifully done, as well, and quite large (although the shower is very cramped). The Heavenly beds are extremely comfortable, and it's a great experience to lie in bed and hear the activity outside - singing gondoliers, music in the courtyard. There is also a nice breakfast that is provided on the patio that overlooks the canal. Such a great location!

The customer service is hit or miss here, although, that is true of most places in Italy. There is no real sense of welcome or urgency, but the staff are pleasant and get the job done. The only real downside I had was at 4:30am upon check out with the desk clerk who was very rude about the fact that I was keeping my pre-arranged water taxi waiting (I was struggling with fitting all my luggage in the small elevator). Although, in all fairness, I don't know if he intended to be rude....there is something about the Italian culture that just comes across as brusque.

The one drawback to this hotel is the outrageous price. We paid $900/night for a regular room. Yes, it was during June/July which is peak season. But what you are really paying for is the location. There is nothing else about the hotel that is worth the cost, but it was worth to us as first timers to Venice.

After entering a room with someone already in it we were upgraded to a corner room junior suite. We had five large windows that opened up to the Grand Canal and the famous Maria Della Salute right in front to welcome us. You must have the Spritz at the bar at dusk, down by the canal. It is a magical way to toast your arrival!

This hotel is well located--on the Grand Canal and very close to St. Mark's Square, . Lobby and common areas are gorgeous. The front desk staff was not to friendly and seems to give off an attitude . Just ignore them and enjoy the hotel and the location.

We stayed in the hotel mid June on a 3 day trip to Venice. Arrived at the hotel via the narrow back alleys which was a bit off putting - until we realised the main door was on the Grand Canal. The hotel's location on the Grand Canal and a short walk away from St Mark's Square was brilliant. The staff were really helpful from the moment we arrived until we left. The views from the hotel bar across the Grand Canal were stunning and having automated canopies helped when the breeze got up or there was rain. Our room was spacious and having a separate dressing room was great. The drinks were relatively expensive but this was not unexpected given the location and the grandness of the hotel, with a free bowl of pistachio nuts to accompany them. Free wifi was available on the ground floor but you had to pay for it in your room. The hotel was lovely and clean, our room had excellent air conditioning. Beds and pillows were really comfortable. Would definitely recommend it.

Great hotel, 5 mins walk (over 1 bridge) from San Marco Sq.
We had a wonderful upgraded room that gave us a view of the city! It even had a small terrace which was great for my 3 year old son to run around. All in all a wonderful trip with the family thanks to the GM and the Front Desk Manager who were extremely helpful.
Quick notes:
The hotel is a little hard to find so ask people where the Europa Regina hotel is - very few people know it as the Westin.
We rented a car from the bus terminal and so took a private boat instead of lugging our bags - you can ask for a private taxi - shuld cost no more than 65 Euro and the trip will be 20 mins max. If you want to pay with a cc then ensure you tell the Concierge in advance.

This hotel is incredibly well located--on the Grand Canal and very close to St. Mark's Square, restaurants and shops.

Lobby and common areas are gorgeous.

We did not have the same problems with staff reported by others. We found the desk and concierge very helpful, although sometimes the front desk appeared a bit understaffed.

Started with a room on the fourth floor of the Regina wing of the hotel. Room had cute paintings, but was very small (not uncommon in Venice.) Window overlooked a decrepit roof and garbage. We had two people staying in two beds. Expected at least full beds, but beds were just two single beds pushed together. Room was non-smoking, but had a strong odor of cigarette smoke. (I don't blame the hotel fir this; they can't control all guests.)

We asked for a different room due to the odor of smoke which we are allergic to. We were moved to a room in the Europa building. This room was even smaller and nothing special. Bathrooms, however, although tight, were well decorated and appointed.

There was no "complimentary water" in either room. I needed to take some medication, so took a non-alcoholic drink out of the mini-bar. I was charged 10 Euros for the soda from the mini-bar. (I later did ask for the "complimentary waster" and was given some, but still had to pay 10 Euros for the sip from the mini-bar.)

Overall, not what I would expect from a 5-star hotel.
