Starhotels Splendid Venice is a very comfortable and central hotel situated about halfway between St Mark's square and the Rialto bridge. I read others' reviews prior to visiting Venice and was a little concerned that we might have trouble finding the hotel, but can report that it is pretty impossible to miss since it is beside the one and only canal bridge between those two most famous landmarks of Venice.
Our stay was very comfortable indeed. We had lovely, spotlessly clean rooms. They were not rooms with a view - but this is Venice, where there are views galore outside ! The beds were really good. I do not usually sleep all that well away from home, but I slept really well here. Breakfasts were very good indeed. Another reviewer happened to mention that the coffee was not so good. If you request espresso or cappuccino, they will make you as good a cup of true Italian coffee as you would have to pay 3.50E for down the road ! The staff were all very helpful and inconspicuous. I do recommend all who visit to open your room window just before 7am to hear the glorious sound of the St Mark's campanile bell ringing out across the city...or better still to hear it in the square ! We hope we might be lucky enough to return one day !

Room Tip: Try not to worry too much about having a room with a view. There are views galore a very short dista...

This hotel was perfect for us - half way between St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge. Everywhere was really easy to walk to from the hotel and it was easy to get back to for a cup of tea or sit down. The hotel itself was spotless and the bedrooms were lovely - we had a super view over a pleasant canal where there was always something going on. The staff were polite and courteous, the breakfast was great and our rooms were cleaned/refreshed every day. The hotel was busy but our rooms were quiet and there was plenty of space for everyone at breakfast. We would definitely stay here again. Just note the comments from other reviewers about finding the hotel in the first place - easy once you know where it is.

Room Tip: We paid a little more for a room with a canal view - well worth it but don't expect the Grand Ca...

Centrally situated, just between St Mark's square and the Rialto Bridge. Arrived at Rialto and just a 2 minute walk (because of high tide). Departed directly from hotel as tide lower. Nice room with a view of the canal (to be booked at slightly higher rate, but worth it). Good room amenities. Very friendly staff, which is not always the case in big Italian tourist centres. Breakfast a bit dodgy (coffee not good and selection very typically Italian). Ideal for a nice friendly cetntral hotel. I will go back.

Room Tip: Book a delux canal view room. Costs more but worth it.

A first visit to Venice for my husband and we were thrilled to find this gem of a hotel. The hotel was easy to find - pretty much in the middle between the San Marco and Rialto Bridge waterbus stops. A 10 minute walk with our suitcases and map printed from the website.

On arrival the staff were really friendly, very helpful and gave us a great map showing us where we were positioned.

The rooms are compact, but very clean, lovely beds and really comfortable - crunchy cotton sheets and duvet. Nice clean bathroom, strong powerful and very hot showers and lovely clean bath (exactly what you want after a day sightseeing). Great toiletry selection if you forget anything. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Great wooden floors, no dirty carpet to contend with and the rooms smelt clean!

The only thing we notice was a crack in the lovely venetian mirror in our room but this would have been expensive to replace and did not detract from using it.

The hotel is surrounded by great restaurants and Venice is so compact that you can wander and not be too far away at any point.

The breakfast was filling, very busy but pleasant staff and beautiful restaurant.

Overall we had a brilliant 4 days in Venice, very lucky with the sunshine and a great hotel.
Final trip for the girls (make sure you have some space in your suitcase - there are some great handbag shops near the hotel - I managed to buy 3)!!!

Aircon did not seem that powerful but we were lucky that it was not too hot during our stay.

Room Tip: Ask if possible for a room at the front of the hotel, we were above the delivery point and it was no...

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for 5 days at the end of March, although the weather was dreadful we had a wonderful time. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful (except when checking out). We were greeted in our room with a wonderful box of chocolates and nougat which was a lovely gesture.

I had paid extra for a canal view room although you basically had to hang completely out of the window to be able to look down onto the canal which was a shame.

Some areas that could be improved to make this hotel truly a classic:
1. Breakfast - more items should be available at breakfast as the buffet is a little limited.
2. Paying 6 euros for 24 hour internet connection is quite stepp when hotels should be offering this for free especially at the price you pay for a room.
3. The mattress was hard as nails - the hotel really needs to look at somehow softening them.
4. Due to a lot of rain falling during the time we were there, it made it difficult for water taxis to dock at the hotel. The reception organise our taxi but then never informed us that the taxi was not able to dock because of the flooding. 15 minutes pass the due time I went and queried as to why the taxi was turning up late and I was only then informed that the taxi was not able to dock and that we would need to carry our bags elswhere to meet up with the taxi. My husband and I were not iompressed especially with having to carry heavy luggage up and down the stairs in Venice.

Room Tip: If you ask for a canal view room/suite, ensure that the window is large and that you can see the can...

Brilliant location halfway between St Marks Sq and Rialto bridge - As mentioned, easy to find (once you get lost (and you will!)). Lovely room overlooking the canal with regular gondelas passing during the day.
Little noisy early morning with deliveries but to be expected.
Only slight negative was the Breakfast which was limited and slow service.

Otherwise fantastic place
