This hotel is just a few minutes walk from StMarks Square and the Rialto bridge. The rooms are tiny but this has always been our experience with centrally located traditional Venetian hotels.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. unfortunately staff at breakfast are not as welcoming.
Breakfast was very basic and the dining area is far too small and cramped.
The only real downside is the flights of stairs you need to take to get to the rooms.....with luggage! We were on the third floor and after the steep trek up we were exhausted!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The building is historic and was once the residence of well-to-do merchants’ families. It was fitted out as a hotel in 1959, by the noble Sereni family, and extends over 4 floors, a typical period feature, facing onto the wonderful canal "dei barcaioli," reserved for gondolas. Thanks to the full-scale restoration in 2002, the Ateneo Hotel has maintained the unspoiled charm of a typical seventeenth-century Venetian residence. ... more less
