“Very convenient, good value option”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

This hotel is very convenient to the train station (an easy 3-5 minute walk) and is located on a large canal so some rooms have lovely views. At the same time, it is far enough away from the busy thoroughfares so that it is quiet.

We had a triple room, very spacious, with two windows that opened onto the canal. The chandeliers in the room are spectacular Murano glass! The beds are comfortable, the bath has everything you need, the price is very reasonable, and the staff is accommodating. What more can you ask for ?

The staff gave us excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants. You can easily walk into the Jewish ghetto through a short cut across the canal. There was a complimentary bottle of chilled wine awaiting us in our room when we arrived - a very nice touch!

Our first visit to Venice, could not have started more perfectly, we arrived by train from Milan, and found our way to the Hotel Hesperia easily on foot. When we arrived Arnold welcomed us with the news that the owners had upgraded us to a canal view room for our 3 day stay. Each evening when we returned from exploring, Arnold was there to welcome us home. Each morning Marina or her sister were there to wish us "Buon giorno". Breakfast was delicious, which we enjoyed in the outside eating area watching working Venice begin its day. This hotel is on a working canal, and great enjoyment is had by watching deliveries arrive via boat. One morning we overslept, too late for breakfast, we thought, but when we went down, they had made something just for us. We were told the best places to eat near by, and the one we chose, directly opposite on the other side of the canal, was so good we only ate there each evening. On our last morning, Arnold came to say goodbye, as he finished his night shift, and we were enjoying our last breakfast. We do not have high enough praise for this hotel. As I lost my camera, with all my photos of Venice on it, we will be back, so I can take more photos, and so we can enjoy the pleasures of the Hotel Hesperia again. Grazie molte to all at Hotel Hesperia.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the canal, adds to the magic of visiting Venice.

We visited Venice on our honeymoon, and had a wonderful time, in no small part because of this hotel. The hotel is basically around the corner from the train station, which was convenient, but far enough away that we felt we had our own neighborhood, away from the hordes. Marina was an impeccable hostess; she and her staff were able to give out directions and tips and suggestions for the best neighborhoods to explore. I hurt my knee on our last day in town, and though we had checked out, we had to wait several hours until our train to Florence. Marina made me up a bag of ice and let us stay the morning and early afternoon on the patio outside the hotel, where we were able to watch the kayaks and gondolas and canoes in the annual row boat race. The room we had was small, but in Venice, how much time did we really spend in our room? It had a sink, and a window overlooking the Cannareggio. Everything we needed.

Despite the fact that the Hotel Hesperia isn't exactly in the centre of the action it is excellently located. Take the orange line water bus to Guglie (around 3 stops from the airport) and you're opposite the hotel! There are numerous cafés and bars nearby which are quite reasonably priced (by Venetian standards) and you're only ten minutes from the train station if Venice is not your only destination. It's a bit quieter than other areas and you'll certainly get your 10,000 steps per day by walking to and from Central Venice but with the sheer number of gelateria on the way this can't be a bad thing!

Carolina was a very good host and extremely helpful. The room was really clean and the air conditioning a god send on hot Venetian days. There was a well stocked mini bar and a sunny roof terrace to enjoy. The continental breakfast was included in the price and there was plenty of choice!

My only minor criticism was that the bathroom was very small- after a shower the tiled floor was flooded and was very slippy. Perhaps a room upgrade would have bought a little more space here!

Pedantic criticisms aside, the best thing about the Hotel Hesperia was its cost. July in Venice can be hugely expensive and when we booked for such a low price we feared that our accommodation would be far more basic than it was. What we got was a great hotel in a great location and I am thrilled that we didn't spend more money!

Room Tip: If one is available you'll be asked if you want to upgrade to a more expensive room with a canal...

We loved our stay at Hotel Hesperia. We didn't realize what a gem it would be for us, as we had originally thought we wanted a more central location. As it turned out, the location was absolutely perfect - only a ten minute walk from the train station and also off the beaten path, away from the hordes of tourists, on a smaller canal. We had very easy access to the water boat taxis and used them to get to the busy touristy areas of St. Mark's square and also to the other islands. We really enjoyed using the boat taxis. The staff was superb, always very helpful and informative, directing us to excellent, local restaurants, close to our hotel, that didn't cater to tourists. There are also a few restaurants right on our canal that were excellent. The rooms were very adequate. We had a room with a view of our canal. It was fun to look out the window and watch the activities of the canal, but also a bit noisy at night. If you want quiet at night, request a room that is not on the canal. Our room had a private bathroom in the hall, which helped bring the cost down. It turned out to be no problem at all, especially since we also had an extra sink in our hotel room. We were on the third floor, and there is no elevator, but we didn't mind that at all either. There is a cute little patio on the top of the building which we did not use at all. The breakfast is included in the price. It is a standard Italian breakfast like we had at every other hotel and B&B on our visit to Italy. I highly recommend Hotel Hesperia, and will definitely stay there if we are ever able to return to Venice, and I will request my noisy room with the canal view. My only wish is that we had booked 3 nights instead of only 2.

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and arrived by train, the hotel was easy enough to find following the directions on their website and took about 10 mins to walk there. It's away from the busy main routes which was nice but still more than close enough. The hotel is small but has everything you need including very helpful and informative staff. The room we stayed in was on the second floor and just outside on the way to the roof terrace. I can't remember the number but it's a lovely spacious room all on its own with a en-suite bathroom (this was a bit small but not a problem). Good air conditioning and no noise in the morning. Breakfast was nice with a good variety of food. I would recommend the bar round the corner, Bar al Parlamento, great food and drink. Turn left out of reception and left again at the canal and it's just ahead of you. The bar on the opposite side of the canal was always busy too so give that a try. Also you have to go to Alfredo's Fresh Pasta To Go, look it up online. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel for making our first trip to Venice a memorable one.

My partner had previously booked this for us due to my impending birthday but was unable to join me at the last moment. When contacting the hotel they were very helpful with changing the details over to my mothers. Upon arrival we were exceptionally early but were were greeted warmly. We were shown to our room and helped with our baggage which was exceptionally heavy so greatly appreciated. That evening I asked the young lady at reception for directions to a fete we wanted to attend and she happily looked them up on her computer above and beyond my expectations. The room was very comfortable on the second floor directly opposite the stair case which was at times a little noisy but nothing unbearable. The bathroom although small was more than suitable. Overall the place has true Venician charm. If you get time visit the roof terrace for lovely views. Location was well suited for the water buses and within walking distance of all the main attractions. My mother is a Diabetic and the hotel kitchen team were helpful in the morning making sure she was catered for. I would love to return in the future. Many thanks.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better for less noise, try not to be opposite the stairs if a sensitive sleeper.
