“Excellent location but highly overpriced..”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Husband and I were on a 11 days trip to Italy for our Honeymoon...for our Venice trip chose this hotel because of its location close to the Rialto bridge and St. Marks's square...and also because of the views of the Grand canal that we thought we would have from our room with a balcony as per the photos put up by the hotel..so we had booked a double room with a grand canal view and paid an obnoxious amount for it...only when we were checked in we saw that the double room was actually very tiny with tiny windows..we were put up on the 1st floor and when we opened the windows, there were no great views of the grand canal but instead were overwhelmed by street noises...we complained and then were shifted to a bigger better room on a higher floor...this room again had tiny windows and no balcony...and the views were just about decent...infact later when we stepped out we saw that the hotel had hardly any balconies..the service quality was average and there was no wifi in the room...the room as such looked old and the furnishings looked old too...the only best part was that the hotel arranged for a free taxi ride to murano on the 2nd day...but the place was located right on the rialto bridge with st marks square just a short walk away...also there was a vaporetto stop just outside the hotel and we also picked our gondola ride from here...all in all the trip was excellent but we just paid way too much for an average room in an average hotel..not recommended...

We were suckered into this place because yes, OK, it's right next to one of the only bridges across the Grand Canal. But it was totally not worth it. I am willing to pay $50, maybe even $100 more for a good location, but this was a totally average room, like you'd get at a midrange hotel chain in the USA, just with slightly more antique-looking furniture. The staff was extremely impolite and unhelpful, the breakfast was inelegant to say the least, and the whole experience was really off-putting.

Worse, there was no internet of any kind in the rooms. We were paying almost $300 US for one room for one night (in the no-canal-view "annex"), and they made us pay an additional $8 for the internet! And it was only one login; if we wanted both computers to work, we'd have had to pay another $8. And the internet only worked in the cheesy, tiny lobby with its ugly couches and fake plants.

Bleh.

We paid for a deluxe room when we booked the hotel. They gave us a room in the back that smelled, no air-condition and window was locked and couldn't open. They told us we had to pay 40 Euros per day to get a better room which we did :( The internet was only available at the lobby. The staff was very rude and we will never go back to this hotel:( The hotel is very run down and smelled :(

Room Tip: no good tips, the room still smell like someone had been vomit in the room even you pay extra to get...

The Rialto Hotel is a good location in Venice. Price for the hotel was reasonable. The boat bus took us to the Rialto stop in which you walk right to the Hotel. The Rialto Hotel was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful with directions or questions. Breakfast included a variety of foods which I enjoyed with delicious coffee. There are many places to eat and shop around the area. I would definitely return back to this hotel!

Our room overlooked the Rialto Bridge and canal. The furniture reminded me of French provincial with local blown glass adorning the the lamps. The bathroom wasn't the most up to date but was clean. The canal could be very busy but there are shutters on the windows that helped to quiet the noise. We purchased wine and snacks from a local deli and enjoyed them on the great rooftop patio overlooking the canal and bridge.

Stayed here a while back. Room was small but that was to be expected, We got a room with a good view of the canal although the balcony was very small. A bit noisy as the water taxi stops outside but this was a handy advantage when we got lost it was a straight run along the canal home. The breakfast was satisfactory with good strong coffee as i like it. Room cleaned twice during our stay and had no complaints with towels toiletries etc...Overall an enjoyable stay with top end prices but hey we enjoyed it.

This was our 2nd trip to Venice and staying at the Rialto hotel (our first was back in March 2010 when I proposed to my wife on the rooftop terrrace of the hotel). We had such an amazing time then, that we decided to come back and celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary here too. Apart from the unfortunate building work that was taking place on the roof terrace this year, everything was exactly the same as we remembered it. Here are some comments:

Location:

Perfect - you really couldn't ask for any better! There are several vaperetto stops outside the hotel (and a little bit futher down the canal). You can get here from Venice Marco Polo airport very easily by buying a return ticket on the ATVO Airport Express Bus, which takes you non-stop from the airport to Pizalle Roma (the main boat terminal for vaparettos into Venice). The cost is a very reasonable 9 euros for a return ticket which is valid for 7 days. To get to the Hotel from Pizalle Roma, I recommend you take the boat no.2 (red line) towards San Zaccharia (San Marco) - this is a faster service than the no.1 boat, however the 2 may be quite crowded, so taking the no1 maybe better if you have lots of luggage (the no.1 starts from Pizalle Roma). If you are staying in Venice for a few days, I would recommend getting a travelcard for 2, 3, 5 or 7 days. These give you unlimited travel on all vaparettos, and all you have to do is touch your card to the reader before getting on the boat (like an Oyster card reader). The cost for a 3-day card is 37 euros.

From the Rialto stops you can get anywhere around the canals/lagoons, but I recommend you study a map of the boat lines first. Once you know where you're going, it's very easy to hop and hop off.

You can also walk to lots of places from the Hotel Rialto - St Marks square is about a 5-10min walk away, and there a lots of lovely restaurants and bars nearby. There is a cheap self-service restaurant a couple of doors down from the hotel that does very good meals, pizzas slices and ice cream, definitely worth a look!

Hotel Service and Rooms:

Just like 2 years ago, the hotel staff could not do more for us. They were very polite and friendly, and spoke perfect english. We were surprised to find a bottle of Proseco waiting in our room once we'd arrived, a very welcome treat! The room was clean, tidy and a decent size (we did pay an extra 150 euros for a canal view room). Bathroom and Shower worked fine and hot water was in plentiful supply. One thing I would point out is that the noise from the canal can get quite irritating if you're a light sleeper, but the view and the atmosphere and ability to people watch overrided this. You may want to consider this when booking a room though.

Breakfast was very good! I cannot understand some of the other reviews on here which say breakfast was poor! The selection is very good - cold meats, mini omlettes, croissants, pain au chocolats, fruit, youghurt, fresh juice, and even champagne! You could order extra for a small price, but there's no need. We indulged every morning!

Be careful, we were stung with a 12 euro tourist tax at the end of our stay. I would recommend you calrify this with the hotel when you check in, so its not a nasty shock at the end of your stay.

All in all, this is great "4" star hotel in a great location. The service and staff are very professional and courteous, the rooms are clean, comfortable and resonably priced, but be careful about the noise from the canal at night, and the tourist tax.

Room Tip: If you wish to purchase a canal view room, you would pay up to 150 euros more than a standard room t...
