“Clean and comfortable, in a quiet but interesting location”

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day escape to Venice partly because at the end of a busy day we could wander back to the laid back Via Garbibaldi where Venetians go about their shopping, dogwalking and voluble catching up with neighbours, and to a warm and welcoming Casa Mira. Having read the previous comments (as best we could with schoolgirl French and a dictionary to hand) we sympathise with their disappointment but do not share their censure. The shower did leak but it was not a problem, the scaffolding was dismantled the day before we left and the laneway was marginally lighter; we enjoyed the rabbits and birds in the neighbours' 'yard,' and though the new electric stove top was not fully operational, Paola had asked us to kindly experiment and give feedback, which we did.
The supermarket round the corner (great inexpensive wine!) was especially handy after we were led through dark, wet and windy streets by Paola, (before the acqua alta covered the bottom step); there were several restaurants in the area though not all open in February; and it was easy to walk into the surprisingly busy more touristy area of Venice though a short walk would have brought us to a vaporetti stop. Having experienced the crowds in a relatively low tourist season, I can only think that escape to Casa dea Mira would be heaven in hot summer!

“Quiet Apartment in Excellent Location”

A lovely 2 bedroomed apartment at the eastern end of Venice in quiet neighbourhood. V close to canal. 5/10 mins walk to valporetto both north and south of the island. Local supermarket, restaurants/bars nearby.

Met by an extremely friendly and helpful Paola. She had informed us that there was staffolding in front of the apartment but there was no building noise and the only down side was that the view of the canal was blocked. Not a problem at all. She was very good at keeping in touch on our journey from airport to apartment. She also offered for us to leave our luggage in the apartment on our last day as there was no-one coming straight in after us (as it turned out we didn't need to).

Apartment cool (the aircon was most welcome). Everything in working order. Free wifi.

Don't take big suitcases as there are bridges/steps between valporetto and apartment. Travel light in Venice is a good plan.

“Good apartment in quiet part of Venice”

Casa Dea Mira is in the quiet Castello region of Venice. It's a pleasant 20min walk to San Marco and about 5min to the nearest vaporetto stops. The apartment has two pleasant bedrooms and a good living area. There's a supermarket nearby and some great restaurants just 5min away on Via Garibaldi. The owner was pleasant and helpful. The only slight problem we had was that the internet struggled a bit coping with our several devices.

“Quiet location, just close enough to everything”
Reviewed 19 June 2013 for a stay in June 2012

Paola met us at the vaporetto stop and we led us to the apartment. It was clean and bright, and everything we'd hoped for. The washing machine was nice to have, and there was a rack to dry clothes in the Venetian sunshine. There was a lovely breeze with the windows open, or the air conditioning worked great in the summer heat.

This location is perfect. It's an easy walk into the bustle of Venice, but you still feel like you're far away from the crowds. The local church - San Pietro di Castello - was having a festival while we were there, and there was live music, food booths, and more which was a fun experience.

One night at a nearby restaurant a group of young men came in for a bachelor party - the groom-to-be had to haul a PVC cross through town! Everyone in the restaurant sang a rather humorous song for him, and a kind Italian translated it for us. It was a great Venetian experience.

The apartment is perfect for that kind of local exploration; you are close to all the tourist activities, but far enough out that you can mingle with the locals. Once you've done the tourist activities, you can set chairs out on the campiello and enjoy a glass of wine next to the water. Next time we'll stay longer!
