Myself and my partner picked this place for a 4 night get away, the website looked great, and the reviews were pretty good. Check in was an efficient, but not very friendly affair, which rather set the tone for the rest of our stay. All of the staff (with the exception of the waiters and waitresses at breakfast) were the same, nobody greeted you, or even smiled politely if you made eye contact as you passed them in the hall. I'd requested a room with a double bed and a shower when I booked, emailed a week or so before to check, and was assured that my request had been received, but we were given a room with a bath. I politely pointed out that the room wasn't right to the guy who showed us to it, he disappeared without so much as an apology. He came back a moment later with a scowl and a new key and simply said "okay, we switch" and that was that. The new room was a little bigger, with twin beds pushed together, and a tiny very tired looking shower room. The shower screen barely worked and made a horrible noise, and the beds were like rocks, but after the curt response to my last request, I didn't feel I could say anything about it.
The restaurant was very expensive for evening meals, and the drinks were extortionate! €6 for a fresh Orange juice with breakfast!
Right, on to the good bits! The breakfasts were nice, good selection of foods, plentiful coffee, and the staff actually smiled and said good morning when you came in. The rooms are bigger then you would expect in a city hotel, lovely and quiet and it's great to have a free safe in a place like this.
All in all, it wasn't an awful stay, but we wouldn't go back, I suggest the Antiche Figure hotel next door, it's not as "grand" looking as the Carlton, but we popped in for a drink one night as they had a terrace overlooking the canal (and our hotel did not) the guy at reception was so friendly I could have hugged him, the drinks were good value, and we were even given something to nibble (for free!) as we sat and watched the world go by.

Have just returned from a weekend in Venice and booked the Hotel Carlton. Arrived at Treviso Airport and got the ATCV coach to Roma Square which took around an hour. The hotel is within walking distance from there.

A nice medium sized hotel right near the Ferrovia Waterbus Stop. We booked a double room which leads onto a Courtyard (communal). Booked via Booking.com and decided to book this room type as it guaranteed the double unlike the double/twin rooms which were a little cheaper (most of the time they are twins) .

Booked on a BB rate, breakfast was very nice. Used the Hotel Bar once which was quite expensive, most probably in-line with all other hotel bars in Venice but just a tip.

If you get a good deal I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: When booking via a 3rd party online accommodation site you can't guarantee a double bedded room...

I really enjoyed our stay at the Carlton for three nights. The place is impeccably clean, the staff are clearly well used to being used as a tourist office and the location is fantastic.

Can't comment on the restaurant next door but the breakfasts were all very classy, tons of choice served by friendly uniformed staff.

I shall definitely stay here next time I come to Venice. Soon, hopefully!

Room Tip: The higher the better to avoid canal-level noise.

There's no doubt that Venice is a decaying city and unfortunately, that includes the hotels. For Venice, the Carlton was a fine place to stay, but that's not saying much for those of us who are used to American hotels. The hotel is in a very old building and the age shows. The beds are hard as a rock and the rooms and showers are tiny. Beware the bar prices are extremely high (14 Euro for a Mojito). Do not attempt to plug in American hair tools, etc. even with a converter--It will knock out power in your room and break your tool. The location is ideal, the staff were courteous, and the breakfast was standard for Italy. We were in a courtyard facing room and it was quiet. We heard from another couple that their canal view room was difficult to sleep in because of the noise from ever-present canal traffic.

Room Tip: We were in a courtyard facing room and it was quiet. We heard from another couple that their canal...

The hotel is pretty, lovely decor and the room and bathroom were very clean.

We loved the roof top terrace and the hotel is in a good location near the train station and directly opposite the water bus stop.

We didn't have dinner at the hotel but the breakfast was decent.

The staff were also very pleasant and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel between Xmas and New Year, for three nights.

We spent the first two nights in the rooftop junior terrace, which was fine, the room is clean and tidy, and well furnished, the bathroom was a bit tired, for a suite, but ok otherwise. Pillows on bed were very hard, but changed immediately on request.

For the third night we stayed in a Superior double overlooking the canal, room had a nice view but was noisy, with the canal traffic. The room was also compact, but was otherwise OK, with a good shower.

Staff at the hotel, could not be more helpful, and make this establishment.

Location of the hotel is very good, opposite the rail station, which was fine for us as we arrived by train, walk into the city takes about 30 mines, with a lot of window shopping along the way.

Venice felt very safe to me, for walking around in the evening, and there are loads of restaurants’ close by to eat in the evenings, within 10 mins gentle stroll of the hotel.

Hotel breakfast was OK but nothing special, but then you get what you get with a Continental breakfast.

If you want a fab breakfast go to the Florain on St Marks square, and share a breakfast between two, the breakfast is to much for 1, and just fab, we went twice, just for the experience.

All in all a good hotel, and a fab city, also not as expensive as I thought it would be if you budget wisely, ENJOY
