“great place”

This hotel is in a very good location and with hundreds of years of history has great charm. Our room was large and the common areas have a lovely ambience. The service was perfect (except in the garden area in the afternoon) and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a family room and it was very spacious.

If you are looking for a very well located hotel with a Michelin-level restaurant in the old Grand Hotel style, the Metropole is for you. They are very accommodating, informative, and helpful. Likely not the most kid-friendly place just because of the style and older furniture and antiques around.

Room Tip: Ask about the location of your room, to see if you are facing the San Marco Basin in front or the mo...

I find it hard to believe this hotel has received such high reviews. I recently stayed at the Metropole in Venice (end of 6/14) and was expecting it to be a nice experience. However, I along with three other friends did not enjoy our stay at all. I generally stay at 4 and 5 star hotels - this does NOT fit into either category.

Although, the hotel has a history with Vivaldi, an enormous and rare collection of fans, and crucifixes, it has a very dark and dated decor. It is very over-priced has an Eastern European/Russian style with extremely dark colored wallpaper, drapes, flooring, and furniture with the exception of a few rooms (and bathrooms) which have been decorated in lighter shades. Be careful because two of the three rooms, which were mid-range $, were so small you could barely walk around the bed. Some of the bathrooms were very small as well. It's a hodge podge of decorations throughout the entire hotel as well a layout that is litterally like a maze.

Many higher-end hotels typically have many staff members who speak English. Unfortunately, at least half of the staff we encountered did not speak or understand ANY English. I'm not talking about housekeeping or room service, but concierge. Poor management choice to put someone in concierge who doesn't speak or understand some English! One must also turn-in their room key upon leaving the hotel (strange). The location is very touristy but is convenient if you plan to take water taxis and was close to St.Mark's Square.

I put the 'Do not disturb' sign on the door on two different days and asked that they not clean the room or anything, only to return to my room with the sign removed, everything moved around and cleaned. We only stayed four nights, so it's not like the room needed cleaning. We ordered breakfast in the rooms most mornings and it was good - no problems with room service at all.

The Hotel Londra Palace was close to this hotel with a very pleasant and bright decor, staff that spoke English and were very helpful even though we weren't staying there. Plus their rooms were comparable in price, bright, spacious and nicely decorated. The restaurant in front is fun for to people watching and the food is very good as well. We still managed to enjoy the beautiful city. I highly recommend taking the Cipriani taxi at St. Mark's Square to the hotel for dining at Cips or Oro - truly a wonderful getaway from the tourists and an experience you won't forget. The Hotel Danieli is great as well. Dinner on the rooftop at sunset is fabulous. Then there's Da Ivo which is located in a wonderful shopping area not too far from the gondola rides at St. Mark's Square.

This was the last city on our trip to visit before leaving for home in Southern California. It would've been nice if the hotel had lived up to the reviews and hype. I honestly would not recommend this hotel to anyone. But I wish I could.

A hotel with mountains of character and charisma. A million miles from the chain/brand hotels that you can find across the globe, this is a unique oasis of friendly stylish calm perched on the grand canal with excellent views and unbeatable convenience for all of the best that Venice can offer....2 minutes from its door on foot, or however long you like by water taxi from the hotel's private jetty. This was our second stay, prior to embarking from the Venice cruise port.....we again found it relaxing and enjoyable from beginning to end. Don't waver, just book it, you will remember the experience with a smile....whereas how many of the top brand chain hotels stay in the memory for very long?

We stayed at the Metropole for our first leg of our 10 day Italian vacation. Very nice Hotel a rich history that goes back 500 years, even Sigmund Freud stayed here in 1895 according to the Hotel literature. My wife and I felt we were staying at a museum, where ever you turned there was an artifact collection of some sort. The rooms are a bit small but quite comfortable, we booked one of the rooms with the bay view and every morning we opened the windows and let the morning breeze into our room, it was very nice. Breakfast was included and the restaurant's open terrace was the perfect setting to start your day. The location is quite convenient, near St Marcos Square but not to close. Also nearby, the Hilton Molino Stucky Hotel shuttle running every 40 minutes or so, which has the Skybar on top, the best views of Venice bar none. And seven restaurants to choose from in case you want to do something different one night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the bay are surprisingly quiet and the views are quite nice.

My partner and I were looking for a gem in the city of Venice; someplace unique and Venetian. We found it in Metropole. The decor is dark and sexy, the restaurant is gorgeous and delicious, and the staff was incredibly kind. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to the island of Murano leaving every 30 minutes or so, too! Our room was a suite with a canal view and although the The next time I'm in Venice I'd be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Canal view was cheaper than lagoon view, and honestly, the room was so beautiful we didn't care...

We stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon, I have nothing negative to say about this hotel. We chose to arrive by private boat taxi which arrived at the hotels own private mooring. The staff were extremly welcoming and helpful and we were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a room with a roof terrace where we could see the lagoon. It was beautiful. We were also lucky enough to be bought a chilled bottle of prosecco to our room.
Breakfast was fantastic and delicious, we also chose to eat in the Michillen star restaurant on one evening which was a great experience.
The hotel is in a good lcation and walkable to all the sites, Venice itself was quite busy whilst we were there and returning to the hotel felt like an oasis, we enjoyed sitting in the covered terrace out the back relaxing with a cool drink.
The Metropole is quite a small hotel which we really liked, service felt very personal and we would deffinitly return. I would recommend this hotel for couples.
