“Great lunch while visiting the Biennale”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

Had lunch here in June 2013. We had the 2 day pass so were able to go in and out of the Biennale (I believe if you only have the one day pass you're not allowed to come out for lunch and go back in). We were expecting a tourist trap, but were pleasantly surprised to have perfectly cooked pasta in tasty sauces. Also cooled down with a spritz and draft beer. Beautiful views and good service too. Would definitely come back here when we come to the Biennale again!
(BTW we ate at the sit down restaurant facing the water, you can also do sandwiches in the side portion of the restaurant)

“Don't write this place off. ”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 via mobile

Spotted this place while running through the park and decided to come back fir a casual lunch. Beautiful location next the water surrounded by lush greenery and away from the crowds. We had the fish soup and fried mixed local seaford off the daily special menu and both were fresh and tasty. Service was fine and attentive and food came out quick. Enjoy!

“If this is Paradise then just give me Hell!!!”
Reviewed 13 October 2012 via mobile

Walked along the gardens and stumbled across this quaint looking restaurant... Looked at the menu and thought that the prices were reasonable so we'd give it a go. Bad mistake! We were "greeted" by the grumpiest waitress in the history of waitresses who showed us to our table in a very nice, chic courtyard. We thought "maybe the service is so so but the place looks nice so maybe the food might be good"... Bad mistake number 2!

We shared the sardines & scampi antipasto that came out looking like 2 lumps of cat poo seperated by some rocket salad... Sardines were actually tasty but can't say the same for the scampi! Tasted as good as it looks!!!

My wife had the chef's salad and when it came out I was thinking if this it the "chef's" salad then the chef must have come out of a packet too!! Every single item bar the yellow lettuce leaves and greenish tomatoes came out of a packet or a can... Absolutely disgusting! We wouldn't even feed this [--] to our dogs!!!!

I had the seafood spaghetti which looked presentable but was equally disgusting! The mussels were dry... Prawns were flaky (i actually spat it out!) And the rest of whatever was on the plate was mediocre...

We were actually staring and desperately shaking our heads at another 2 groups of people to tell them "don't do it... Don't comne in!" who were looking at coming in to he restaurant.

Undoubtedly the worst meal we've had in Venice and all of Italy & France combined!!!

Guess the only saving grace was the breadsticks... But those came out of a packet too.....

“Beautiful view”
Reviewed 11 October 2012

We stopped by Cafe Paradiso after our long walk in the eastern Castello. Cafe Paradiso is basically the only establishment on the rather lengthy stretch from the eastern tip of Castello along Viale Vittorio Veneto, Riva dei Partigiani and Riva de Sette Martiri until one arrives to Via Garibaldi up west with its more numerous and apparently much better restaurants. However, at this part of Castello, along the public gardens and Biennale, Cafe Paradiso offers relaxing seating and unforgettable panoramic view to the lagoon and San Giorgio Maggiore. We never ordered any food, but the ice-cream that we got was just a generic brand from a nearby supermarket, quite disappointing. The service was average. The interior looked impersonally modern reminiscent of the 1970's plasticky trends. The place, however, is mentioned in Joseph Brodsky's Watermark, which was an additional plus for us.
We would still recommend it on a hot exhausting day, perhaps for drinks only and the magnificent view.

“Beautiful location, mediocre food and service”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

It was our last day of a one week stay in lovely Venice. We enjoyed a Sunday morning walk in
Castello and wanted a shady place for our last mid-day meal. Paradiso looked very inviting, near the Biennale vaporetto stop but overall it was the least desirable meal we had had all week. Service was indifferent, portions were smallish and quite ordinary flavour. We did not check Tripadvisor before but understand why it is rated in the bottom 10% of restaurants in Venice.
