Hotel Carlton Capri

I preferred this the hotel due to its close location to Piazza Roma (the terminal bus stop in Venice) and Santa Lucia Train Station (I was travelling with my family and it was easier for me to carry the heavy luggages!) If you are planning to visit Veneto region (Verona, Lagoon Islands etc), I recommend you to use this hotel as a central hub. It is very close to Vaporetto station on Canal Grande for your transport in Venice as well. Although it seems complicated to find your way at first trial, you can easily reach Rialto and San Marco on foot simply by following the signs located on the exterior walls of the buildings on your way. The rooms are small (as the case in most hotels in Venice). The breakfast was satisfactory. Enjoy your stay in Venice!

This hotel was a little tricky to find but we always managed to find our way back after our sightseeing, even in the dark. It was quite small and the location was very quiet. At first we were a bit disappointed when we saw our room which was small and pretty basic. No frills. We decided not to dwell on this as it was very clean, we also checked the pillows and they were immaculate. The hotel was very quiet, we couldn't hear any noise such as toilets, voices, people walking along the corridors or tv sets. We were on the first floor directly above the entrance with a small Jiuliette balcony and we never heard any noise. There were heavy metal security shutters at the window but we decided not to open them as we were out all day and at night you could see straight into the room so no privacy. The breakfast was typical continental fayre and the ladies were very friendly. The breakfast area was small but was more than big enough and it was beautifully decorated. The hotel in our opinion was actually in a great location if you like walking around which we do as you see so much more on your way to the famous sights. If we had been staying nearer San Marco Square we wouldn't have explored as much of Venice as we did. We booked a water taxi when we booked the holiday with the travel agent and it was money well spent. The taxi was waiting, a lovely polished wood and leather small boat and it was just for the two of us. It was a lovely start to the holiday. It took us over the lagoon to the Grand Canal and dropped us off in front of the Hotel Carlton on the Grand which is the sister hotel to Hotel Carlton Capri and we were picked up there on the day we came home. Hassle free. You can get on the vaporetto which is much cheaper but they get very overcrowded and it isn't as special as our experience was. To summarise, we found The Carlton Capri good value for money. A convenient base to explore the wonders of Venice.

Room Tip: We requested a higher floor with a balcony which we got but it wasn't quite what we expected. As...

This is an older hotel with a modern bathroom (hand held shower). Our room was small; the window overlooked a courtyard. There was enough room for two people who really just slept in the room and used the bathroom in the morning. It was quiet. The hotel has an elevator (lift).

What was good was that it was close to Piazzale Roma and the shuttle bus from the airport. We dragged the suitcases over two small bridges and were at the hotel in about 15-20 mins. When we left to go to the cruise port, we again dragged the suitcases over the two small bridges across Piazzale Roma to the People Mover.

There are plenty of vaporetto stops nearby.

The room included a great breakfast from 7-10 am. There was ham, salami, cheese, bacon and scrambled eggs. Also hard boiled eggs. Plus pastries dry cereal and muesli. Of course, coffee, tea and juice.

We booked the room on Priceline...Remember to bring a paper copy of your voucher. They will ask for it when you check in

Sister hotel to the Carlton, this smallish hotel is a few steps off the canal in a very quiet street. You can have discounted drinks at the Carlton's rooftop terrace on the canal. If you use the train to Venice, it's very close to the main station. (Getting across the bridge may be a pain, especially with heavy luggage, considering its many steps...!). Decent breakfast included. We asked for a room with a view, and got one on top floor (where lift doesn't go) with a balcony!

Room Tip: Ask for top floor and balcony

This is a great example of the up to 200 Euro per night hotel in central Venice:

Very small room with rather old, not very modern or nice furniture.
Small but functional, recently renovated bathroom.
Good hot breakfast.
.
Pros:
- excellent location (300 meters from the station ). Remember you have to push your bags over some stony bridges to get to the hotel.
- excellent working wi-fi.
.
Cons:
-40 minute long walk from San Marco square

The hotel is clean and quite with enough space for relax. Good breakfast and front desk sevice.
Location is good which is near to the Grand Canal, just pass through a narrow road but please make sure you can find out that road on the map..

Room Tip: Make sure download the map offered by hotel beacuse it is difficult to find the hotel without map.

Dirty and dingy. (except for bathroom). Ran my finger on the bedframe, it was dark from the dirt. Room was supposedly a triple. they crammed 3 twin beds un a single small room. how can 3 people move around or store suitcases?? had poor lighting, no sunlight. Worse part- front desk clerk recommends a restaurant for 'locals' and turned out to b worst restaurant ever! Not one local in the restaurant. Indian guy for a cook. my spaghetti carbonara a mushy overcooked mess. When clerk gave me directions, sent me by confusing route instead of clear more direct way. I wonder if clerk actually hates tourists.
