Description: The Fortuny Restaurant is located in the main bulding of Hotel Cipriani in a beautiful location with a big terrace overlooking the lagoon and its tranquil atmosphere. Candlelight dinner is served with special menu including typical Cipriani recipes and new dishes created by executive chef Renato Piccolotto and his brigade. The atmosphere is very romantic and the service accurate and discrete. The ambience is elegant but not opulent and the food is excellent. This is a lovely restaurant, now known as Oro, which deserves every one of its Michelin stars - our party of six was first made very welcome with service to follow notable for its warmth, attentiveness and enthusiasm throughout the evening.

As you would expect the menu is innovative and re-creates some traditional Italian dishes. The amuse Bouche were particularly delightful and meals excellent - meeting and exceeding our expectations. Wine list is impressive with great variety and some very good aged wines which we selected.

We had a delightful table with a spectacular view across the lagon and enjoyed the stylish decor and flowers. Our party of six all enjoyed every aspect of the evening and were well satisfied as all portions were generous however deserts were splendid and worth throwing away the diet for!

Don't miss it - you will need to book ahead - the longer the better. Value excellent. As usual in Italy the guest menus for ladies have no prices!

From the complimentary boat ride from San Marco until the end of the evening, the whole experience was magical! We were 30 minutes late for our reservation, and it did not matter - everyone was amazing!

The food was wonderful, the service flawless, and the staff is romantic! Complimentary dessert and wine for our anniversary.

Was it expensive? Yes! A once in a lifetime dinner, but so very special.

The only downside - we needed to get a water taxi back to the cruise ship docks, because the transport options had finished for the night. The water taxi was expensive. The driver refunded us 20 Euro when we arrived, because he picked up another fare.

We visited the Fortuny for lunch on our final day in Venice - we had already been to Cip's Club for dinner earlier in the week and enjoyed again the short trip in the hotel's beautiful wooden speedboat which ferries guests to and from the hotel throughout the day and evening. It was a lovely sunny and warm day in early October so we had a table outside overlooking the Lido - inside the restaurant actually seemed very formal so we were pleased it was nice enough to eat outside - at least we thought we were! We ordered some nice wine and made our choices from the menu - the food was good but not great and we would have been more than satisfied with what we ate, along with the excellent (if a bit stuffy) service, lovely wines and incredible view, however..... As I have mentioned it was late October and the hotel's spectacular gardens seemed over-run with dozy wasps - the hotel had obviously recognised this and in an attempt to divert the wasps from diners' tables had placed small glasses of limoncello along the walls of the restaurant, at roughly head height and in close proximity to our table. The wasps were attracted to the glasses but seemed to merely dive in, enjoy the limoncello and then climb right back out to attack our food and wine! We tried to move the glasses but to little effect and the lovely relaxed atmosphere and our enjoyment of the afternoon was sadly spoiled - we relocated as soon as possible to the pool area to enjoy some more drinks where we found respite from the wasps and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon - the staff were a little more relaxed here and one guy even kindly looked up the premier league scores for my anxious husband. The Cipriani itself is wonderful and we do hope to go and stay there next time we visit Venice - if not we will definitely return for lunch or dinner but would choose to eat at Cip's Club instead.

The restaurant is stuffy and very expensive. I went to pour my own glass of sparkling water and the waiter rushed over to do it. Even though I was staying in the hotel I had a long wait for a table on a night where it was raining very heavy outside so we decided to eat in.

My wife and I dined here in September 2013.

To get there, you take a complimentary private water taxi (10 minute fun boat ride) from San Marco Square to the small island where the hotel is located in the Venice lagoon.

The food was not OMG good, nor was it bad. The service was very prompt, but, in my humble view, too serious, stiff and formal -- perhaps even a bit pretentious. I would characterize this restaurant as "old school" -- taking itself a bit too seriously for 21st Century diners.

It would nonetheless be a 4.0 were it not for the exorbitant prices. Hence, I gave it a 3.0 due to 1) the cost of the experience vs the value of the experience and 2) the over-pretention and lack of "fun factor" at this restaurant.

Indeed, it would not have been a "fun dining" experience unless we had had the fun Floridian couple that sat next to us. 5 star food and service can (and should) be fun and dynamic. So, my humble suggestion to management is to lighten up the "stuffy" attitude with a few more grins and some levity. It could ameliorate the overly "pretentious edge" while still maintaining the otherwise pleasant ambiance had at this elegant venue.
