“Somewhat of a disapppointment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

After reading the great reviews of this hotel we booked 4 nights in May. Location is excellent. Our room was nice enough but the bathroom smelled SOUR and paint was peeling from the ceiling. Breakfast was adequate. If hospitality is defined by the staff remembering your name then it was OK. Hospitality lacking sincerity is how I would define it. We had an early AM departure and they offered to have coffee ready for us. As we departed they asked for 10 euros to cover the coffee charge. We left disillusioned with the offerings of this hotel.

Spent a surprise long weekend here and it was all I could have hoped for and more. Our room was fantastic and the breakfast was superb. The staff couldn't do enough to help (but were never in our way) and we had everything you would want for a romantic break. The best thing about this hotel was the private balconies though, looking right onto the crowds on the Rialto Bridge from the peace of the balcony with a drink in hand...and even better, they don't let anyone not staying at the hotel in! The only other places with half as good a view were crowded and busy. We whiled away a few hours at night watching the world go by.
Will def go back to get away from it all again, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in

Room Tip: We had the room that was right next to the biggest balcony which made it almost feel like ours :)

We stayed at this hotel this weekend just gone and had an amazing time. I had high expectations, and this hotel more than exceeded those expectations. The personal welcome upon arrival, the friendliness of the staff, the amazing surroundings and history of the building makes this hotel such a special place. We had a great room at the front of the hotel overlooking the Grand Canal and experienced two nights excellent sleeps. Drinks on the verandah is ideal for people watching and we received many an envious stare from the passing water buses. We were celebrating a special occasion on our visit and were greeted with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, a nice and generous touch. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and cannot give higher praise to the owner and his carefully handpicked staff. We will return and hopefully quickly!

My husband and I just got back from 2 weeks in Italy and 3 nights in Venice staying at the Al Ponte Antico hotel. Our stay at this charming hotel was by far the most memorable as we received such amazing personal attention and customer service from all of the staff and the owner Marcel.
The hotel is in a great location next to the Rialto bridge and is one of the few in the city to have a terrace. We received excellent restaurant recommendations and they were incredibly helpful with all of our needs and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
We will definitely stay with them again the next time we visit Venice and I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a small luxury hotel experience in a great location with personal attention from a caring staff.
If you dream of being in Venice and sitting on the grand canal watching the boats go by while sipping a glass of red wine of cup of cappuccino..then this is the place for you! The sunsets from the terrace were breathtaking and memorable!.

You will be hard pressed to find a more stunningly located hotel with staff who are the most attentive and welcoming we've ever found. It was an absolute joy to stay here and we can't recommend it enough - especially if it's a special occasion (in which case you must arrive by speed boat, which the hotel can arrange for you as it'll set you off on the right foot)! We stayed in a classic room which was perfectly nice in terms of decor and was very typically Venetian - the bathroom wasn't much to write home about in terms of size and decor but we didn't come to Venice to spend time in there so it really didn't matter a jot! Honestly this is the only place we'd stay or recommend if you're visiting Venice - just wonderful and the terrace overlooking the Rialto Bridge offers a millionaire's view for you to watch the world go by from and soak up the fabulous atmosphere of life on the Grand Canal. In a word - stunning!

Some friends told us we simply had to stay at the Al Ponte Antico Hotel when we went to Venice..They had stayed at other wonderful hotels (even the Cipriani) , but said nothing compared to their stay at Al Ponte Antico.
As always I booked our room many months ahead and asked for a canal view. However, we were both happily stunned when we walked in our room and actually saw the view.. It was right on the canal. Right there! We could watch the gondolas go by and see the faces of the gondoliers.... It was astounding.. We had 4 windows that faced the canal. We could see the Rialto bridge from our room. We had room 109. Magnificent. The room was large and comfortable and beautifully decorated in traditional Venetian style. While the shower was compact (typical for a Venice hotel I imagine), the bathroom was beautifully tiled, and had everything one needs and then some.. We had a patio right outside our room that was available to other guests (but hardly every used by anyone else) that was on water level. So wonderful. The owner Matteo has seen to every detail and is a impeccable, magnificent host. He often cooks breakfast and makes delicious omelets and crepes on request. The buffet is wonderful, with lots of choices and is beautifully laid out each morning. RoseAlba serves perfect cappuccino on the terrace and sees to your every need. Speaking of the terrace. It's almost hard to explain the feeling of sitting on the terrace sipping cappuccino in Venice watching the boats and gondolas go by or just looking at the Rialto bridge... It's kind of once in a life time experience.. a feeling that you will take with you throughout your life. Venice is kind of a magical, totally unique place.. and being able to experience it like that is something we will never forget. The entire staff was always friendly, warm, helpful, knowledgeable, professional and dignified in a very unique Venetian way. Venice can be kind of hectic and Al Ponte Antico was our calm oasis.. Walking into the hotel after a long day of sight seeing and having Oliver greet us and ask us about our day was so great. We highly recommend Al Ponte Antico for anyone going to Venice. Rick Steeves recommends it too. Thank you Matteo and everyone for our wonderful stay!

Room Tip: We had room 109. Perfection.
