Al Ponte Antico Hotel

We stayed at the Al Ponte Antico the second week of January with our college age daughter. Originally, we had booked at their sister hotel Locando Orseolo, but were given the choice to "upgrade" to the Al Ponte Antico, which we gladly accepted. We were given a junior suite overlooking the Grand Canal. Our room was beautifully decorated, and our daughter enjoyed the view from the windows in our room. Matteo and his entire staff were very gracious and made us feel very welcomed. As others have posted, breakfast was delightful, from the fresh eggs to the crepes. I would not hesitate recommending this charming hotel to anyone. Thank you to everyone at the Al Ponte Antico for a truly delightful stay!

The reviews are true - you will not be disappointed.

The service from everyone was excellent. The staff knew all the guest by name, wanted to know what you were up to that day/night, and were willing to share their favorites of Venice.

The location was ideal. Right on the Grand Canal. The only bad thing is that there is no clear signage of the hotel location from the street so you can easily walk down a street and miss it. If arriving for the first time, I suggest the water taxi as this hotel has their own dock.

Breakfast - is fab! There is the regular cold items - cereal, cakes, fruit, crossiants, breads, cheese, cold cuts, crackers, yogurt, etc. And there are also warm items - ham and cheese stuffed crossiants, sausages, etc.
And then there are made to order hot foods such as pancakes (crepes) and omlets. A perfect start to the day.

While i loved this hotel, the staff, the breakfast, the location, there is only 1 issue I had with this hotel.....The bathroom ceiling was low and when in the shower (standing in the tub), I had to duck down a bit to wash my hair. There was 1 night when the hot towel rack was rattling. But I stopped this noise when i turned down the heat on the rack. This is after all a converted palace so these issues are really small compared to the other great things this hotel offers.

Would I be back: you bet!

When planning our trip to Venice we consulted 'TripAdvisor' to
decide on our accommodation. At the time of planning Hotel Al Ponte Antico was under renovations and so based on reviews, we decided to book Locanda Orseolo. As our departure date approached, we were informed that Locanda Orseolo was closed for the duration of our stay. However, Bruno (one of the proprietors of both establishments) offered us an upgrade to Hotel Al Ponte Antico- gratis.

Venice is of unparallelled beauty and likewise Hotel Al Ponte Antico stands alone. We have travelled widely and have had the privilege of staying in some of the world's best hotels. However, most pale in comparison to Hotel Al Ponte Antico and none match the personalised approach that make this hotel such a special experience.

Firstly, there is the location- Right on the Grand canal with a view of the Rialto Bridge, it offers the quintessential Venetian experience.

Secondly, the furnishings and decor have been meticulously done to replicate an opulent and beautiful Venetian Palace and are a visual treat.

Thirdly, the breakfast served (included in the rate) was superb. We also enjoyed many delicious cocktails while our children (x3) sipped on hot chocolates. We were very pleasantly shocked that the bill for these extras matched the reasonable room rates rather than the usual inflated prices for such luxuries in other similar hotels.
Although the hotel does not offer dining for other meals, the
recommendations provided by staff were fantastic and we felt like they carefully listened and put thought into these. Its location meant that a wide variety of dining was available virtually on the doorstep.

Finally and most importantly, what made our stay at Hotel Al Ponte Antico so enjoyable was the Hotel staff. Bruno (and his family) were obviously born to be in the hospitality industry. He has assembled a team who exude genuine warmth and who are attentive without being sycophantic. Their willingness to go the extra mile and do whatever it takes to make your stay enjoyable is evident from the moment you make email contact with them. Everything was done with care, thought and pride. We truly felt like a Venetian Noble family!

This was by far our favorite hotel in Italy. It is a gorgeous hotel right on the Grand Canal and a stone's throw from the Rialto Bridge. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Venice. For what you pay (very reasonable), I can't imagine getting a better hotel. Owner/operator Matteo was so gracious and friendly and sincerely interested in us having a good time. I swear I think he would cry if we weren't happy.

The room was huge, ornate, and beautiful. The view out of our window was of the Rialto Bridge. The location was ideal. One of the best things about it is the breakfast. After 6 days of Italian breakfasts, we were so happy to be offered eggs and sausage. You can take the guy out of America...

This was definitely our favorite hotel in Italy and we can't wait to go back again.

There are no words to describe the charme of the place and the peerless position of the hotel: the pictures made by other travellers speak by themselves.
So, just few words that can resume the heart of this wonderful place: this is the way each Hotel in the world shuold have to be managed. The kindness of the owner Matteo and of all the staff is beyond any expectation. They put their heart, mind and soul in their work...and this is evidenced in every little particular, from the welcome to the breakfast, from the furnitures to the cleaniness, from the answer to any information request to the service... everything is pervaded by the love for the work and the place. And believe me, unfortunately in Venice this is not so common...

Having visited Venice several times in the past, I was amazed to find a hotel of this quality and level of guest service at this price. The owner, Matteo, greeted me upon arrival by name. Our room was not only clean, which is an imperative, but also gorgeous. No lodging in Venice proper is inexpensive, but even compared to the Bauer Il Palazzo (where I stayed on my honeymoon) and the Hotel Danieli, the Al Ponte Antico is just beautiful, in a perfect location, and the level of staff attention and graciousness is simply beyond compare (for a third of the price). Matteo and his staff, particularly Oliver, made us feel like royalty. I highly recommend the Al Ponte Antico.

We just loved our stay at Hotel Al Ponte Antico. The Hotel owner, Matteo, and his staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. The hotel's balcony/terrace and some of the rooms overlook the Rialto Bridge. We would enjoy reasonably priced, delicious wine out on the balcony during the evening, despite the cold weather. Our room (103) was very clean and nicely furnished. Our only caution would be the smell from the canal that permeated our room to no fault of the Hotel. Our room was very close to the canal (1s floor, canal side) and was very reasonably priced. We were hardly in our room so we really did not care. If you do not wish to take in the smells of the canal, then ask for a room overlooking the street or located on a higher floor. For those who love breakfast, Al Ponte Antico's is to die for! I had plain, scrambled eggs that tasted beyond this world. I asked Matteo if he had placed cheese or something in them, but he said no and that they are delivered fresh from his grandmother who raises chickens. They were the best scrambled eggs ever! We also enjoyed a selection of pastries, crepes, coffee drinks and juices while we were there all masterfully made by Matteo. A wonderful and romantic stay!
