We booked a cheap holiday to Venice and this is the hotel we stayed in, after reading the reviews on trip advisor we were a bit scared but actually was ok ! room was ok, breakfast wasn't fantastic, standard continental breakfast but not worth getting up for tbh. The no12 bus behind the hotel on the main road took you directly into the main venice bus station, only takes 10 mins, and we used this bus 4 times a day and never had to wait long for one to come along , definitely not a 4 star hotel but for the price we paid it was decent enough. We were told we were to pay a tourist tax of 2.80 per person per night which we were not advised about before our trip.

I chose this hotel from the British Airways web site which was based on how far it was from the Airport, how far it was from the centre of Venice and the hotel grade.

I agree totally with other contributors that this is NOT a four star hotel.

The hotel was covered in scaffolding and renovation work was in progress. We had a room on the 3rd floor which had been refurbished. Whoever designed the bathroom needs to take a step back and really think of the layout. There is a gap between the bath and the far wall so if the shower is on full belt, then the water leaks into the gap. There is no toilet roll holder so you either have to put the bog roll on the bidet next to the toilet or you have to have extremely long arms to get the roll as it was placed (and is placed every day after cleaning) on the vanity unit.

The room renovations appear to have been done on a tight budget. The furniture could have come from any flat pack high street store.

The breakfast was ok(ish). Scrambled eggs and warmed up slices of ham. Watered down orange juice - or more appropriate orange squash.

The builders were banging away on Saturday and also on Monday fortunately it was a day of rest on Sunday but once they started, there was very little point in staying in the room.

The location IS ok. Buses run frequently and it's only 10 - 15 minute ride to the bus station in Venice. The hotel rate is lower here because it is NOT in the centre of Venice.

Certainly not the best 4 star hotel I have ever stayed in but certainly a reasonable 3 star hotel

Please be ware that you are supposed to purchase tickets before getting on any buses. Of course the bus driver will wave away a 10 Euro note as he is not allowed to take cash (contributors BJ9137). Tickets for public transport can be bought at the tabacconist shop which is very close to the #12 bus stop and you can buy unlimited travel for 24, 36, 48, 72 hours etc. If you are caught without a ticket then any resulting fines would serve you right. Do you homework and don't plead tourist ignorance.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 336 which was fine - until the elevators broke down one day! Glad we didn't h...

All I can say is that our stay was near perfect. The Alexander is smart, comfortable and friendly. It's less than 15 minutes away from Venice by convenient local bus and our proferred 10 Euro note for our fare was waved away by the driver. It doesn't provide evening meals but just around the corner are several restaurants and a fabulous , really inexpensive pizzeria. There was the widest possible choice of breakfast menu. All in all a great place to stay for your Venetian visit. One small grouch, no tea making facilities in our room otherwise I would have scored it a 5.

First of all, don't be mislead about the location of the hotel. It is in Mestre Venice, not in Venice itself. When we arrived at the hotel, we were very surprised seeing the appearance of the hotel as it looked not like a hotel :-( Especially when we were told that this was a four stars hotel. Most likely it gets its 4 stars status due to its location in Mestre. The staff were fortunately quite friendly. The rooms were small. Even the door of our room could not be closed & locked. So we needed to put our luggage (fortunately we had quite big heavy luggage) as a barricade to keep the door closed as there was no other room available for us. The breakfast was not special but at least it had a hot chocolate machine to cheer up my kids in the morning :-)

Room Tip: Please check first whether your room's door is in order.

This Hotel has been rated as a 4 star which it is not it is lucky to be a 3.When we turned up the Reception staff were racing to find our reservation through BA, where they had just left it on their email system. The staff person that was on at the time was not helpful and everything was a effort. We had encounted four staff and two were cheerful and helpful both male.
The breakfast in the morning was standard Euro Breakfast which was OK if you like cakes in the morning and the two staff in there were excellent. The Hotel at the moment has loads of scaffolding outside which looks like its going to be there for a while, also be aware of the 10% charge that is added to your bill if you use anything out of the fridge, due to know large filter water dispensers only option is water in fridge. Hopefully this helps I would rate this as more of a large Hostel than 4 star which its not. We looked at the comments from other people and thought they were just whinging, but no they were right.

For a four star hotel it's very cheap - but you get what you pay for. It's a plain hotel, the lobby is boring, the rooms are very small, but the staff are very friendly and helpful. They don't have a swimming pool, and that was a bit of a disappointment since it's a 4 star hotel. The hotel is in Mestre, not Venice, but it's only a 10 minute bus ride to Venice so that's good. Thumbs up for this hotel if you're looking for a cheap place to stay near Venice

I find the prvious reviews rather harsh, the hotel is ok, they don't pretend to be in Venice and the bus routes are excellent from only a 3-4min walk to the bus stop, you can get bus tickets from the Tabaconnists near the bus stop and she will adivse you on what to do, very lovely lady!
The hotel itself is rather ambitous with a 4* rating, possibly 3 perhaps!
Breakfast was reasonable and certainly put us on for the day, lots of fruit/pastries/cereals/toast (if you want to wait until lunchtime for it to toast ;-) ) and scrambled eggs and bacon.
We had no noise issues from other rooms, room was clean not enormous but live-able, beds firm but not rigid.
We parked outside for our stay as we were touring around, once parked up, the car was there for 2.5days, cars were changing so the amount of spaces was not an issue for us either, it was just nice to not have to pay for the priviledge!
There was some works going on in the hotel but the only time we noticed was when we were being lazy and had a lay in on checkout day!
