“Quiet oasis away from the crowds”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Our family stayed here following a cruise and I'm so glad we found this hidden gem! It was reasonable price (for Venice), the location is just out of the way enough that it's quiet and the area shops / eateries are less touristy. Yet we were a reasonable walk away from Rialto and San Marco when needed. The hotel itself is lovely, especially the quiet picturesque courtyard. The icing on the cake was the staff who were so incredibly helpful and friendly. When we have the opportunity to visit Venice again, we'll definitely return to Locanda La Corte!

This was our second visit to Venice, and we wanted a hotel that was a bit out of the way. This was a great place for our 5 nights, comfortable in every way. The hotel staff were very helpful, and the resident cat, Tommy, was so friendly and loved being around people. We booked a triple room, which had a queen bed, with an adjacent room with a single bed. We liked this arrangement, in that it provided plenty of room for our luggage, etc. The hotel is air conditioned. The quiet courtyard becomes a great place for the very nice breakfast that is served as part of the room price. The lobby has a small bar, and the staff will make you a drink for a reasonable price. We could walk to most places we wanted to visit, like Piazza San Marco and the Rialto area. Keep in mind that you will trade out easy vaporetti access for this quiet location. The nearest stop is Fondamente Nova, which is not an easy walk with luggage. But, when we return, we will stay here again. Loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that opens onto the courtyard. Ours had a less than perfect view of an adjoining apar...

Just want to say thank you to all the staff at the hotel for making our holiday special. Our room was fantastic, overlooking the courtyard (room 109) was big, clean and very cool thanks to the air con. Breakfast was a delight sitting in the courtyard every morning and plenty to eat, nothing was too much trouble and whatever we asked for was always greeted with a smile. Courtyard was so peaceful at night to sit and have a Gin & Tonic at the end of the night (excellent Gin by the way :)Friendly staff, lovely rooms, great breakfast......a gem of a hotel in a fabulous location not too far from the main attractions cant get much better than this.......not forgetting Venice was amazing.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.........thanks again.
Ian & Jane

Room Tip: Room 109 top of stairs and overlooks courtyard, plenty of room

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Locanda La Corte. The location was perfect - still close to all the main attractions but away from the big crowds. Staff was very helpful and gave some great recommendations for food. We had a canal view and did not experience any problems with the noise. The morning breakfast was nice in the courtyard. Only minor complain was that the shampoo provided was a shampoo/body wash combo. I'd bring my own next time.

Room Tip: We had room 101 - canal view. It was spacious and quiet.

We stayed here 3 nights and really enjoyed it. Room 106. (but not first floor) Up 2 flights of stairs in the middle corner. Other reviews have detailed the accommodations well, which I agree with. Nice sufficient breakfast: plenty of (free) coffee, milk, juice, water (drink up!), yogurt and cereals, meats and cheese, yummy fruit-filled croissants, etc. The breakfast courtyard is the place to eat! No one shows up really before 7:45am. Easy to find a table and folks move in and out in a neighborly way. Locanda staff very helpful and professional. Recognize you when you walk back in and greet you accordingly. Any question we asked the front desk, they answered. The resident cat was a big pal to our child.
You're going to walk anywhere you go in Venice (and lots of it!) but this hotel seemed easy to get back to each day. You'll get "lost" (turned around) like everyone does, but unlike some other places, Locanda is quick to locate back. Not a "high end" place, but we were very pleased with our room, space, high ceilings, 'normal' bathroom. Lots of plug/outlets in the room. Stayed in a triple, with a large Queen on one side, and single bed with desk and fridge on the other. Family of 3 or 4 with young children, but not larger. I would recommend this place to a first-time Venice visitor.

Room Tip: Room 106 had a mini-fridge and water bottles stocked daily. They are actually cheaper than what you...

Locanda La Corte is in a great location, walking distance to everything you want to see in Venice, but set back some, so you don't feel like you are in the middle of all the tourists! We stayed for 2 nights and had the quad room, for my husband, two children, and myself. Our room was very large, had an eat in kitchen, good size bathroom and a second bedroom. Breakfast was included and was wonderful, something for everyone! Make sure you take your map of Venice with you, even with the map, we got lost each time we went out, but even being lost is fine, when you are in beautiful Venice! Also, make sure your give their cat Tommy a nice pat!

This hotel is a 15 minute walk to St. Mark's or the Rialto, and is far enough away from them that it is much quieter and without big hoards of tourists everywhere. We got to the hotel through the vaporetti, and got off at the Rialto stop. I recommend using the Fondamente Nove stop--it's a lot easier to navigate from there with a suitcase. The hotel provides maps and very good directions on how to get to the hotel by vaporetti, water taxi, or on foot. This information is available on their website, and is also e-mailed to you prior to your trip.
The front desk is always open, and the people who work it speak English well. You give them your room key whenever you are out, which we thought was a little weird, but we didn't have any issues with it, and someone is always at the desk, so you aren't restricted by it at all. They provide a good map of the city that also has the vaporetti routes and stops marked on it. It also includes a small map of Murano. When we asked for dinner recommendations, they pointed out a few places and marked them on the map for us. There is a cat that lives in the hotel who is very nice, but seemed pretty indifferent to everyone.
We stayed in room 102, which is right off of a canal, and that was VERY cool. We paid extra for the view, and it was worth it. The room has AC, a small tv, and I think a safe box. There is a hair drier in the bathroom, which has a shower (no tub) with good water pressure. The shower is very small--I am 5'8" and thin and bumped into the doors a lot while shampooing. I don't care about this because I only spend 10 minutes a day in the shower, so it doesn't really matter to me how big it is, as long as it works and there's hot water. However, if this is something that matters to you, be advised that it is small. I hope this doesn't sound offensive to anyone, but I just want to warn so you aren't surprised when you get there: If you are a little overweight, you will probably be fine, but if you are considerably overweight, the smallness of the shower will definitely be an issue.
The windows in 102 open right to the canal, which is awesome for the view, but I recommend keeping them closed at night due to mosquitoes (we got one or two in our room the night we left it open) and loud birds in the early morning. During the day, though, it is great to have the window open and hear the water in the canal and look out and see the boats pass by--I loved it!
The hotel has a beautiful courtyard where you can eat breakfast every morning. The breakfast spread is decent--a few pastries and pies (yes, pies), bread, cheese, meat, I think they had cereal, and coffee and juice.
If I come back to Venice again, I will stay here.
We took the vaporetti everywhere, so if you have questions about that at all, feel free to send me a message. We went to the Doge's Palace and inside St. Mark's, and also did a day trip to Murano and San Michele. The Doge's Palace opens at 8:30, and St. Marks at 9:30 or 9:45 (I think?), so we got to the Doge's Palace around 9am, and there was no line to get in. We spent a little over an hour in there without an audio guide or tour group. We also didn't read all of the descriptions in the rooms--if you are going to do that, it will take you longer. After, we went straight to St. Mark's and got in line and waited for about 15 minutes or so to get in. We paid the extra two euros/person to see the Golden Altar and that was easily worth it. We took a day trip to Murano (on the vaporetti) and wandered around the island for a few hours, and that was fun. We also made a quick stop at San Michele to see Stravinsky's tomb--there are signs pointing you to it if you look for them. We also spent every night in St. Mark's Square listening to the dueling orchestras. There are three in the main square, and one across from the Doge's Palace. The three in the main square all have the same instrumentation and play mostly the same music. The one across from the Doge's Palace doesn't have to compete with the other three, so they have a bit more freedom with their repertoire and instrumentation. Lavena is the one bar closest to the basilica with an orchestra, and they were my favorite. Instead of paying an arm and a leg for the cover at one of these bars, consider just standing, and then you can wander the square and hear ALL of the orchestras--totally worth it, and easily my highlight of my stay in Venice. Fantastic music!

Room Tip: 102 has a great view of the canal outside
