The hotel room was nice and big and very clean. We had a shared bathroom, but you do have your own sink in your room. If you are only staying for a night or two get the cheaper rate by doing the shared bathroom. Any longer I would get a private bathroom.
Nice customer service and great breakfast!. Just a nice and simple breakfast but the best jam I have ever had.

tips/info:
1. They do hold your luggage but it is accessible by other guests so i recommend bringing a lock.
2. Traghetto- gondola ride across from the Rialto market is a cheap quick gondola ride. only 2 euros to head across
3. Venice can be done in two days easy with tons of time spent wondering around and exploring
4. There is a grocery store near the hotel. Just turn left when you walk out onto the main street and keep heading that way a few blocks.

We paid €135 for a beautiful old world Venetian room for 4, 2 adults 2 teens, this was the apartment block close to the Hotel and well worth the extra €10. Room was clean, full of Venetian character, had air conditioning and modern toilet and shower (toilet seat a bit loose but not too much of a problem if u kept still!). The location was wonderful, just off the Strada Nova and very close to all main routes, Rialto Bridge and water buses. Friendly helpful staff, got a deliciously cold free bottle of Prosecco in an ice bucket for liking them on Facebook! Breakfast wasn't great but u pay for accommodation I guess rather than food. Would definitely recommend. They also give u a very detailed city map so hold off paying for one at the train station like we did!

In my 1996 Open Road "Rome Guide" (sadly never updated as such, except obliquely by Open Road's 2012 "Best of Italy," which is printed on heavier stock -- to allow color photography -- and doesn't offer the same detail for individual places) author Douglas Morris, in his chapter on Venice, lauds the Hotel Bernardi Semenzato as a low-cost gem but cautions an impending upgrade would likely cause its rates to soar. I don't know what the 1996 rates were, but as of 2014 the hotel is still a bargain as well as a gem. Our double was off site -- a 5 minute walk from the front desk, up a flight of stairs -- and it lacked for nothing: a modern bathroom, comfortable bed, quiet and powerful air-conditioning, and cable TV (which got nothing in English, alas), with large windows overlooking the calle. A simple but tasty continental breakfast was served in the main building each morning, which provided more than enough fuel for a morning's rambling about Venice, which in my book most deserves the title of World's Most Unique City.
The location is a short walk from the Rialto Bridge and the hotel includes with its confirmation clear instructions for getting there from the Ca' D'Oro vaporetto stop. As it this wasn't enough, the main building is across its calle from a very good restaurant, Ai Promessi Sposi (where we had our first dinner) and a few steps away from another, La Panocia d'Oro (where we ate our last lunch, in the company of local workmen tucking into substantial meals, to the accompaniment of soft jazz). Both are -- deservedly -- highly rated in TripAdvisor.
BTW, as other contributors have mentioned, TripAdvisor's interactive map is buggy, at least for Venice (and also for Chania, Crete). The locations it shows for both restaurants are wrong and the map may or may not show the Bernardi Semenzato at all. The interactive map feature is so useful it deserves to be made error-free.

This place is a little hard to find but it is very convenient to the water taxies and plenty of restaurants. It is quiet and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was ok but the shower was tiny. I'm not a big person and the shower curtain was almost glued to me and water spilled out. We came back to venice for our last night and we were upgraded to the Annex. It was nearby and very nice. The room was huge and the bathroom was fine. We even had a glimpse of a canal from our room. I don't know what it would have cost to pay for this room or why we were upgraded, but we enjoyed it.

Just returned from this hotel. The location was a good walking location to various sites in Venice. The people at the hotel were very helpful in providing directions on how to get there (although look for the sign posted in the Strada Nouva) and around the area, etc. The rooms are clean, but simple. Not that I hung out in my room that much except to sleep, wireless and a/c worked fine. The restaurant next door had great panna cota. Also, close to hotel is the Ristorante Alvagon, that had very good food, on a canal, for a good price. Try the carbonara! We even went twice.

The neighborhood is local, it is a quick walk to the taxi that takes you to Burano and Murano (which I highly recommend for only 18 euros for a day pass to any islands), breakfast is average, but fine and the price is very good for Venice.

This is a family owned hotel with two locations. When you book your room the hotel sends you very detailed instructions with a map how to find it. Communication with the hotel over email and phone was easy and fast. It was very easy for us to find the hotel from the train station. Just 3-4 stops by Vaporetto on line 1. Get a Vaporetto (water bus) pass for your entire stay in Venice so you can hop on and off as many times as you want. A single ride is 7 euro, a 48-hour pass is 30 euro. They sell them in increments of 12 hours. 50 euro fine if you are caught without a ticket. The second building (the annex building) was updated in 2011 and it featured their superior rooms. The main building can use some updating, and the cheaper rooms are located there. As you walk in the lobby it is a bit dark. We had the bridal suite in the annex building. This was the only room in the annex building with a canal view (just a regular canal, not the Grand Canal). The inside of the annex building was very nice - marble staircase, clean, shiny. Our room was big, bright, and clean. The bathroom was also very nice (no bathtub). The room was excellent! We slept very well. Quiet hotel. Free WiFi. Continental breakfast - pastries, cereal, no cold cut meats - was served in the breakfast area in the main building. My recommendation for the management is to add cold cut meats and hard boiled eggs to the breakfast menu. The prices were probably among the most reasonable in Venice in July - 98 euro for a superior double room with private bath and air conditioning, 110 euro for the bridal room (because of the canal view). The location was great - very easy to walk everywhere else in Venice and quick access to Vaporetto stops so you can explore Venice and the lagoon islands by sea. We bought a Vaporetto pass for our entire stay and we did a good number of rides. Vaporetto boats run 24 hours/day. For full experience you have to see Venice both on foot and from the sea. Out of the 5 lagoon islands I recommend seeing Burano the most because of the beautiful pastel color houses. Your Vaporetto pass is good for visiting the lagoon islands as well.
Bottom line: great rooms, great location, great prices. I'd recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Room Tip: Rooms in the annex building were updated in 2011.

The Hotel Bernardi Semanzato is located on a tiny alley just a block off lively Strada Nouva. Just that one block though gives you a quiet, genuinely Venetian setting away from the teeming mass of American college students. Definitely check out the location ahead of time so you know where you are going--- off the beaten track locations in Venice can be tricky if you don't know. But it's actually easy to get to-- just a very quick, easy walk from the Ca' d'Ora Vapporetto stop. We found the Vapporetto to crowded for our tastes with baggage and just walked back to the train station-- which is only 20 minutes on foot. Easy enough. This was a great location-- there is a very good Venetian restaurant right across the alley. The Rialto Bridge is a quick 5 minute walk and San Marco only about 10-15 minutes.

The room itself was dark, but plenty large enough for a family of four and very comfortable. The shower was small and had no well (just a curtain), so you tended to get water all over the place. Minor nuisance. We had no wireless problems, such as some others have reported. Hot water and air conditioning were flawless.

The staff were generally helpful and pleasant, if generally fairly business-like. They speak English well and generously.

As others have noted, the breakfast was unremarkable, but included. So you can get a start on your day if you like-- but eat elsewhere if you want something tastier or fancier.

This hotel is a good value! You are getting perfectly nice accommodations in a terrific location for a much more reasonable rate than many other comparable places.

If you want a canal view, though, you will need to look elsewhere.

We stayed in the main building.
