“Great Stay at Hotel Bucintoro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2010

For our first time in Venice, we chose the Hotel Bucintoro for our family of four (2 teenagers). We splurged for the family suite - a double attached to a twin with a small sitting area in between. It was so cool - since the Hotel is named after the boat of the Doges the decor of the hotel is nautical. The view overlooking the lagoon is spectacular!
The staff was tremendous, helping us arrange dinners (difficult as we were there Easter weekend), transportation (we splurged for a private water taxi), and a trip to a wonderful glass factory on Murano.
The location is perfect - on the lagoon a short walk to all the major attractions etc. but in a quieter part of the island.
Our only criticism is the beds - too firm for our preference. But everything else was so great that it didn't matter.

Hotel Bucintoro is located right at the entrance to the Arsenale. Great Venetian Navy museum next door...only a few euros for entrance and several stories high with many artifacts of the former Venetian Navy.

The hotel itself is very clean. The staff are very helpful. Breakfast was continental and included with room excpet for coffee service. Actually, I prefer to pay a little more for the seperate coffee service as it very good, strong Italian coffee and they leave a small carafe at the table for you.

I really like the rooms as they clean, have wood panels...very nautical in theme and have a very nice selection of toiletries included.

The location, at the farthest end from the train station is excellent as you can watch real, working Venetians go about their nautical trades, deliveries and this end of Venice is where many Venetians live. There were several excellent small restaurants around the corner as well an ATM machine, Post Office, Bank and a convenient Vaporetto (water taxi) stop right near hotel.

Lastly, Gian and his staff are very professional, speak English and very helpful. My wife and I plan to visit Venice again in a few years and we will stay at the Bucintoro.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Bucintoro for New Year's Eve and Day to ring in the new year with family friends; also staying in the hotel. During our previous trips to Venice, we stayed in other hotels but chose Hotel Bucintoro based on TripAdvisor reviews. As always, the TripAdvisor community advised well. This was a fabulous hotel located perfectly on the waterfront and within walking distance to St. Mark's Square, in the Castello district. Our room, 501, was spacious, immaculately clean, and provided a terrific view of the Canale di San Marco and the San Marco district. The bonus for this room was the small rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for our trip (rainy and cold w/ aqua alta) but the terrace would be a spectacular feature during better weather. For a European hotel, I was pleased with the size of our room. We had a comfortable king bed with a single bed located in a small connecting space. The bathroom was spacious, by Euro. standards, and spotless. I booked our rooms on-line and the process was efficient. The staff of this fine hotel were professional and very friendly; always waiting with umbrella in hand upon our arrivals and departures. The breakfast buffet, included with the room fee, was plentiful; featuring pastries, fresh fruits and meats, hot dishes, pastries, and fabulous coffee. There is a small but comfortable business room with complementary internet service. The bar area, where breakfast is served, is open for cocktails or coffee throughout the day. If we return to Venice, we will certainly return to Hotel Bucintoro.
