For our first time in Venice, we chose the Hotel Bucintoro for our family of four (2 teenagers). We splurged for the family suite - a double attached to a twin with a small sitting area in between. It was so cool - since the Hotel is named after the boat of the Doges the decor of the hotel is nautical. The view overlooking the lagoon is spectacular!
The staff was tremendous, helping us arrange dinners (difficult as we were there Easter weekend), transportation (we splurged for a private water taxi), and a trip to a wonderful glass factory on Murano.
The location is perfect - on the lagoon a short walk to all the major attractions etc. but in a quieter part of the island.
Our only criticism is the beds - too firm for our preference. But everything else was so great that it didn't matter.
