“Prime location, tiny shower, rude staff”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

With its proximity to the Saint Mark's Square, this hotel charged top dollars for its prime location. However, our room looked nothing like the photos on its website, so we were quite disappointed with the dated room. The only consolation was a working A/C during hot summer days. The shower was extremely small, and we quickly found out why it had the body jets--because there's no way you can bend over to wash any part of your body other than your head in that shower stall, and I'm a tiny person. If you decide to shower any time later than 7am, you will be taking a cold shower because the hotel will run out of hot water by that time. When we informed the front desk personnel that we had no hot water, the concierge was rude and told us "he couldn't do anything about it because we didn't phone down when we had the problem". Seriously, we alerted him ONE hour after the cold shower because we had to have breakfast before service ended, and it's not like we would call him while standing naked in the shower. The breakfast room was chaotic, with people swarming the badly located food and coffee stations like Lord of the Flies. Basically, "you snooze, you lose."

We recently stayed at hotel campiello while in Venice. The front desk employees were amazing! Very helpful, and knowledgeable! They even had the water bus schedule down by memory!

The regular rooms were extremely small, barely had any room to walk around the bed to the restroom. My husband and I had to take turns showering and getting ready in the bathroom because it was that small.

The beds were not really comfortable, hard actually. And the sheets felt like paper.

The thing that I hated the most was on the day of check out... Two hours before check out the maid came banging on the door screaming "check out!!!" Extremely rude, especially since we were extremely jet lagged and planning on sleeping in until the last minute possible.

Ok place to stay of you do not want to spend too much on a room and just need somewhere to rest your head. Will definitely be looking for another hotel to stay on our return to Venice. The maid ruined our experience!

Comfortable beds, great location, great breakfast. We fit a family of four in a superior double with two extra sleepers for two nights and did just fine. Easy to find from vaporetta stop San Zaccaria. Loved the location.

Room Tip: Superior double with two extra sleepers for family of four was tight, but fine for two nights.

Only a one block walk from the San Zaccaria "E pier" Vaporetto stop. Very easy to find. The top floor private bath unit with a standard double for parents and two single beds for two children along with an outdoor rooftop terrace was very comfortable, air-conditioned, and clean. An elevator was available to floor 2 with a short flight of steps to the top floor unit. A single relative of our family also had a separate room with private bath on the ground floor with direct access to the street next to the hotel's entrance. The hotel's location was very convenient to St. Mark's, the Doge's palace, and numerous restaurants. The breakfast room featured scrambled eggs, assorted breads & croissants, cereals, yogurts, cold meats, cheeses, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and choices of juice. The staff provided some great recommendations for evening dining. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if fortunate enough to return to Venice for another visit.

We stayed here in mid May and although it was small we ended our stay with an enjoyable visit. Conveniently located near St. Marks Square and easy access to water transportation which is important when lugging suitcases. Staff was friendly and attentive. Room was small but very clean. Breakfast was good but not for those who love a hot breakfast. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the square

Hotel Campiello is a small boutique hotel near the lagoon water taxi stops and St. Mark's Square, which makes it great for both sightseeing and getting to/from the hotel from the airport, cruise port or train station. When we arrived around 11am our room was ready (thank you!) and the staff were professional but not overly helpful or cheerful. There is free Wi-Fi which worked well in the lobby and in our room. The breakfast was average quality and was in a crowded space, but worked fine. Our room was a studio across a public courtyard (reasonably quiet) from the main entrance and it had a small kitchen (dirty) and two separate king ("double") beds. The one bathroom was very nice with a separate soaking tub and shower, double sinks, toilet and bidet. There was adequate space for hanging clothes in wardrobes or keeping in your suitcase on the floor.

Great location, clean rooms, adequate breakfast. Bathroom and shower to small for humans and the staff were pretty much useless. For me, the deal breaker was running out of hot water. I have never had to take a cold shower in a hotel before and paying 175€ per night should at least ensure a lukewarm shower. When discussing this issue with the front desk a little while later, I was admonished for not telling them as it was happening. I guess they figured I could call them while shivering in the cold water so they could come up and fix the problem? It was handled poorly.
