We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Da Bruno the first week of September. The hotel is a small, modest hotel, but is immaculate. We had a triple room that was quite large by Venitian standards. The staff are helpful and accommodating. Considering the cost of lodging in Venice the hotel was a comparative bargain. We booked through Hotels.com and received notification of a price reduction which worked out nicely. Although close to the Rialto vaparetto stop, the 5 or 6 blocks to the hotel can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage. It is within convenient walking distance of most of the main sights. The hotel also offers a computer station on each floor with free internet. This proved very helpful in confirming subsequent hotel and airline reservations. If you decide to take a gondola ride, we would suggest getting one from near the Santa Maria Formosa church area (a couple of blocks behind the Da Bruno) rather than the Rialto bridge area. Although the hotel staff sugested taking a gondola from Rialto, it proved to be crowded, noisy and the gondaliers seemed to be in a rush to get you in and out as soon as possible. There is a restaurant directly across from the Da Bruno that was good and reasonable.
