This hotel is great to find from the water us stop and round the corner from 2 great piazzas for eats n drinks. Right on a canal so very beautiful. We managed the quirky stairs fine. Breakfast was poor and the salami one morning tasted off to me. Room was dark and smelt musty. Just felt unclean- they should get rid of the heavy bed covers and go with plain white duvet covers plus rip up the carpets and put tiles down n it would transform the room . Air con ok just. Bathroom tiny and the very outdated hair dryer(tube style) was not very good and as it was in the bathroom and the bathroom was so tiny it was impossible to get ready the same time as my husband or son. Bathroom walls were black mouldy and the shower pressure was very poor .Room was small for 3 people, only had one chair and no drawers for clothes but we only had 2 nights there so managed x TV had CNN but it's placed in such a way in the room we all couldn't watch it at the same time !!! Wifi difficult to get onto but managed after multiple attempts at having to log on . Cleaners were smoking on our floor when cleaning the rooms so u could smell cigarette smoke which as non smokers we didn't appreciate( saw the cig
packets and lighter in the linen cupboard) . The best way over to San Marco was via Accademia Bridge so takes about 25 mins all in but some nice views and a water fountain on the way. Would love to stay again but only if the room is brought up to standard. Couldn't fault the guy on reception who sorted out the free water taxi to Murano tho it does drop u straight at a glass blowing factory and u can't get out if that of having the hard sell in the showroom after but it was nice of the hotel to offer that.

We had seen this hotel on a visit to Venice several years ago, and decided to give it a try on a recent trip. It is located in the Dorsoduro section, just across the Academia pedestrian bridge from, and much less tourist clogged than the St. Mark's area. It is convenient to the Ca Rezzonico vaporetto/Alilaguna airport shuttle stop on the Grand Canal side, and the St. Basilio vaporetto stop on the Giudecca Canal side. St. Barnabas Square and the lively St. Margherita Square are nearby. At approximately euro 230.oo per night for a room with a queen bed and moderate quality breakfast included, it is a reasonably priced alternative to most rooms in the St. Mark's area. The staff, including reception, housekeeping, and food service, is extremely helpful; especially Carlo, who assisted with the luggage, gave very good restaurant recommendations and directions, and assisted with airline boarding passes and water taxi information. On the negative side, compared with its appearance 10+ years ago, it seems that either the owners have made a conscious business decision not to invest in any significant updates or repairs to the physical structure, or the previous owners died and their heirs are satisfied to profit off of the cash flow, without re-investing any of it in the property itself. For examples: At some point in the past, the handle of the mini-refrigerator in our room (#302) broke off. It has now been replaced with a rope pull cord. The caulk in the tub-meets-walls tiled corners in the bathroom is found missing at check-in, and filled with a good accumulation of black mold. (Why housekeeping staff or routine management inspection would not have previously provoked a response is a mystery.) Anyhow, "no problem". Someone with a caulk gun appears and recaulks the tub corners, leaving small areas of mold elsewhere. The floor of the breakfast room has a hole which catches a chair leg. "No problem" We just sit elsewhere. Need an iron and ironing board? "No problem". If the ones in the hotel "laundry room" are functional, just go in there and use them. Need to keep your passports and some cash secure while out and about? "No problem" There is a room safe inside the armoire - never mind that it is not fastened down or attached to anything, and can be simply carried off. Need to print an on-line travel document from the lobby-guest computer? Sorry, its not connected to the printer. (Need to wait until the reception desk computer is free.) The stairs from reception to the second floor guest rooms are crooked and tilted. "No problem." Just hang on to the handrail. In summary, the location, price, staff and overall cleanliness are all good to very good; but the physical structure and amenities themselves are in need of substantial renovation.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms where you have to climb the 2 floors of uneven stone stairs at the front of the hotel.

We have just returned from this Hotel after a 4 night stay to celebrate our anniversary and my Birthday.
We caught the water bus from the Airport which proved to be ok for us and far cheaper than catching the water Taxi. We paid 56 euros for the return trip for the both of us. It is 110 euros for the water taxi one way and is faster but we saw no rush..
The water bus drops you off at dCa' Rezzonico and the Hotel is literally up the alley through the square and another 100 yards and your there.

The Hotel is full of character, especially the stair case and whilst it may need a bit of redecoration it would be a shame if this altered the character of the place.
The rooms are small, but again ok for us, if we moved around carefully we wouldn’t bump in to each other. We were on the top floor and although we are relatively fit some may find it a struggle .you certainly know if you are as fit as you use to be , or thought you were.!!

Breakfasts were a bit bland in our view, fruit juices, cereals, jam, bread rolls , some fruit, cheese , salami and if you’re lucky some ham. Sometimes you had to ask for the tray to be replenished and can take a while to arrive, nice Cappuccino btw. but all in all typical continental, and it would generally last us all day

As for eating out , take plenty of euros. It’s not that cheap which you would expect in Venice.
We tried a few places .”La Bitta” in our view was average and still felt hungry after wards, our favourite by far was “Casin Dei Nobili” Just a short distance from the hotels square up a short alley way on the right. It’s got an open air part as well as in doors seating area.
They will do a calzone in any of the pizzas which are on offer. I really enjoyed mine and my partner had calamari’s which was also lovely . My partner had a Pizza at the sport
If rest in the larger square at the very end of a row of restaurants and it was like cardboard, not very nice at all, or what you would expect in Italy.

Take your cheque book if you want a gondola ride its 110 euros for 30/40 minutes whilst I can see why people want to do it and its heavily supported by the Japanese on holiday, you can get a gondola ride across the canal for 2 euros takes 5 minutes. And if you’re lucky they will sing for you which was really fun.
Go to the markets , meat, fish and veg. the Gondola ride is right opposite.

St. Marks is heaving with tourists , but obviously a must do.
It was warm when we went , and to our surprise got bitten many times by mossies’ , so be warned take some repellent.
We walked almost everywhere from the hotel , and glad we did, as everything is within walking distance and you get to see all the back alley ways and bridges which is lovely.
Even with a map you will get lost so don’t worry. you will eventually find your bearings and way back to the Hotel.
We would stay here again, as its away from the main hustle and bustle and we preferred that. Would hate to be near St. Marks too busy and too expensive.

Room Tip: I would choose a second floor room i were going again

This hotel was in a great location, allowing easy access to the major sights, whilst being away from the hustle and bustle. Close to lively squares with numerous eating and drinking options with great atmospheres. Whilst the hotel is decorated in a traditional style which is consistent and charming and overall housekeeping is good, there are aspects of maintenance that require attention in the hotel such as unfinished pieces of plasterboard patches on walls, ancient hair dryers and a need for a coat of paint -our toilette seat was broken, leaving me with an impression that maybe the star rating and tariff was a bit high relative to what was provided. Staff were pleasant.

This hotel was everything I was expecting and more. Yes, it's old but so is everything in Venice. The staff was so nice. By American standards the rooms are small but not a problem for me. Breakfast was adequate. The location is what makes this hotel. It's outside of the busy tourist areas. It's like living as a local. Great restaurants all around and down the small streets. I will recommend this place to anyone visiting Venice.

Hotel Pausania is a great hotel in Venice! If life ever takes me back to Venice, I would definitely stay again. The Hotel is in a great location. Not too touristy, but not quiet either. It is right along the canal. It is a really cool hotel in that it makes you feel like you are staying where wealthy Veneitians once slept. If you are lucky enough to be on the second floor in the front of the building, that is the neatest place to be. You're steps from the square where there's a lot of nightlife at the cafes and only a 20 minute or so walk to St. Marks (it really is best to be away from all the tourists there). Also, while we were there, the area around St. Marks had flooded, slightly, but Dorsoduro, the area where Hotel Pausania is situated, was dry. There are fruit and vegetable vendors that are outside along the canal in the morning, so be sure to get some fruit for a snack while you stroll around Venice (you won't need any for breakfast, because a WONDERFUL breakfast spread is included!). Definitely consider this hotel if you find yourself traveling to Venice.

Room Tip: If you can upgrade to the room overlooking the canal, it is definitely worth it!

A very good location, on the water. The room is a bit small and hot, but it fits the weather.
The bathroom is nice.
The reception was great! they gave us everything we wanted - from 2 glasses for wine and an opener, to 06:15 am breakfast service! they helped us a lot planing the trip through venice and have a lot of great advises.
For WIfi connaction you will need to sit in the lobby, so take that in count.
Overall - A great place to stay.
