This is a lovely place to stay it is more like being in a home than at a hotel, many of the rooms have splendid views and the restaurant is very good, staff also very friendly and pleasant. Right now, it is good value, but they are renovating, but hopefully it will retain its olde worlde charm and good value!

Fabulous stay for a week we couldn't have asked for better. Very comfortable staff very helpful breakfasts on the waterfront memorable. So convenient for the water bus stop. The hotel was quiet at night and the rooms kept scrupulous clean we highly recommend hotel and area and loved every moment saving for another visit.

Very nice hotel located close enough to all the action but far enough away to get some peace and quiet. Staff was very nice and helpful. When you arrive, be sure to take the 5.2 or the 2 water bus, don't make mistake of trying to carry bags across the city and the number of bridges you will inevitably encounter.

We had 3rd floor corner room (304 maybe?) and it had a gorgeous view. This is a great hotel to stay at if you want to get away from the crowds after a day of sight-seeing. Fun to look out and see massive cruise ships going by along side small fishing boats. The Zattere waterbus stop is a mere 5 minutes away (tops) and gets you everywhere. Try a trip across to Palanca for old-world charm and very affordable restaurants!

La Calcina is a charming little hotel in my favorite area of Venice, Zattere - uncrowded, classy streets filled with charming boutiques and wonderful little restaurants, not to mention the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. Our room, #23, at La Calcina was charming, comfortable, quiet and had a view you could only get in Venice - the Grand Canal. I appreciated the large bathroom with a bathtub! It is fortunate, too, and convenient that La Piscina, one of the best small restaurants in Venice, is in the hotel (and on the floating terrace in front, weather permitting). The service is impeccable. I heard the desk clerk, within five minutes, serve people in three languages: English, French, and German as well as her native Italian. They were prompt and helpful in booking special transportation for us, including our water taxi to the airport (is this not the world's best way to go to an airport?!?). I cannot recommend a hotel more highly than this one if you are going to Venice.

Room Tip: Do spend a little extra for a water-view room. It's totally worth the small additional price. I...

We stayed here for three nights in July, 2014. Our room was #34, which provided great views of the incredible boat traffic in the lagoon.

The room was small, the bathroom was adequate, the shower was tiny, and as another reviewer noted, why do these places keep the bidet? FYI, the wi-fi worked well in the room.

This place has a 5th floor terrace that you can "reserve" for a period of time (hourly, maybe?). The terrace has excellent views, and on a fair weather day, it can't be beat.

The breakfast was nothing special.

Lorella at the front desk was great, and very helpful.

La Calcina is the perfect home base from which to explore Venice. The best part was having a water taxi deliver us from Marco Polo airport right to the front door. Transfering our bags couldn't have been easier. The staff were attentive and helpful and the restaurant a great place to have breakfast and dinner.
