“Honeymoon in Venice”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

We stayed in the Hotel Centauro for 4 nights in a standard double room. We printed off the directional map from the hotels website prior to travelling and followed it very easily to the hotel from the Rialto Bridge. Situated in a very narrow but clean alley/street off a small square with a lion monument, it was out of the way of all the hustle and bustle of the main tourist routes, which was really nice as it gave you the chance to see a bit of the real Venice as apposed to the tourist bit. Very central to all the main attractions (Rialto Bridge, St Marks Square, Accadamia Bridge) All about 5 - 10 min walk away.

The breakfast was continental with a choice of croissants, fruit, yogurt, cereals, rolls and cold meats and cheese and a few little extras like biscuits and crackers, honey etc... plus coffee and tea. Very nice but personally I would have like some of the croissants to not have sugar on them. The breakfast room was very nice with views of a canal.

The room was very quaint all decorated in venetian style, the bathroom was a little on the small side but clean and functional. Sadly no tea of coffee facilities in the room itself but there is a mini bar that is reasonably priced. Beware if you want to leave anything on charge while you go out for a while. All the lights and power to the room goes off as soon as you take out the lights key that is attached to the room key.

The staff were very welcoming but you will have to carry your own bags to the room but we didn't mind this. There is no lift in the building. There is Wi-Fi at the hotel and this will cost you 1 euro for 1 hour.

We had a honeymoon offer upon booking which was a free bottle of bubbly in the room but this wasn't there on arrival and we had to ask for it.

All in all we have a very good experience at this hotel.

If you want a stay experience that is "old-fashioned," meaning carrying your own bags up multiple flights of stairs, small, dark, slightly shabby rooms, a shower that is so small that a bar of soap fills it up, and a non-working TV and mini-refrigerator, this is the hotel for you. However, in it's favor, the location is good for sightseeing, the front desk staff was friendly and the included breakfast was nice. We would not stay there again.

I stayed at the Centauro Hotel prior to boarding a cruise out of Venice. The directions to the hotel from the website are somewhat confusing, but once you find the route, the location is about 5 minutes from San Marco Square and equal distance from the Rialto Bridge....very convenient to some of the main must-see sites! A landmark for the hotel is the Campo Manin. There are several great restaurants and shops in the area and the square is a great place to relax. There are three floors and no elevator, so you will need to bring your luggage up the stairs. They provide a very nice breakfast and can provide great recommendations for lunch and dinner.

Excellent hotel in the heart of venice close to Piazza San Marco. Very good value for money with excellent breakfast, comfortable and nicely decorated bedroom and bathroom and helpful reception staff.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms on the canal.

I spent a week at the Hotel Centauro in July 2013. If you follow the directions provided upon booking its not difficult to fine, and the location is great - tucked between Rialto and San Marco but not on a busy tourist way. The staff were very warm and friendly, and breakfast spread pretty good.

My single room was exactly what I was after. Cosy, clean and quiet. While the window looked into a side alley it was perfect to open during afternoon siesta time and hear the gondaleers singing as they drifted past (to the couple who were getting very angry at the night reception when they didnt get the room with a view they wanted - lighten up - your in Venice, lifes good, get out and explore!!!!).

I'd definately stay here again.

Room Tip: The single room wasnt large but enough. There is no lift, and while my room was just around from the...

Stayed here for a day on a short spontaneous trip. Good hotel with excellent value for money in the heart of Venezia, very close to Rialto bridge and San Marco square, with friendly reception staff and airconditioned rooms. Slightly hard to find since the entrance is in an extremely narrow passage of maybe 1 meter width, only a small sign points to it on the wall of Campo Manin. I had a 3rd floor room overlooking a small canal, and it was fairly fun to observe the chaotic gondola traffic down there. Breakfast was good, though nothing overly spectacular. I could leave my luggage at the reception even long after checkout - I actually left it there till late in the evening, exploring different areas of Venezia and trying out things. There's paid WiFi in the rooms, but regrettably in my 3rd floor room the signal was very unstable and it was hard to do anything beyond checking mails. There's a working 24-hour ATM just 20 meters from the hotel on Campo Manin.

The only really annoying thing was the cleaning lady at 8am in the morning, who performed whatever it was that she was doing in the adjacent vacant rooms with a noise more akin to a garbage truck offloading its cargo, slamming doors and apparently hitting walls (??) with an interval of 30 seconds. But it's hardly a problem of the hotel specifically, the service in Venezia is almost universally bad and quite unfriendly when compared to e.g. Japan or China.

Still, clear recommendation for the hotel - probably quite hard to find anything this close to the center and at the same general level for the same price.

Room Tip: canal view rooms are much better, the back side is just a 1-meter wide passage with a stone wall in...

The room was clean and well appointed. The front desk staff was knowledgeable and courteous. They helped with a map and directions as well as recommended a great restaurant. The continental breakfast was fantastic. Lots of choice and in a beautiful setting.
