we just spent a wonderful week in Venice where we stayed at the delightful BASILEA Hotel. no, it's not luxurious, but it has spectacular touches of faded grandeur, is located on a little canal, is in walking distance of St Marks, if you're fit, and hilariously quirky!
the staff we met, Marco, Gianni, Roberta and Ada could not have been more charming. endlessly helpful, cheerful, welcoming and good humoured.
Very clean, friendly and warm with an interesting antique shop, artist and cafe serving the best hot chocolate in the world just nearby...we would DEFINITELY go back.
We miss you Marco and everyone x

My friend and i did a budget euro trip and this hotel was good value for the money we spent. At first we were skeptical because it was in a quiet neighborhood, but it turned out to be safe and peaceful. The staff waa very friendly and professional. The reason the review is 4 stars and not 3 is because there was a night shift manager whose hospitality made the experience a 4 star experience. Would recommend to anyone looking for a value hotel in an expensive city. And it was very close to st lucia.

Dear Guest,
We were really glad to read your enthusiastic review about the stay at our hotel, and we are pleased that you enjoyed this visit to Venice also thanks to the helpful and friendly job of the night shift manager: personally, he wants to send you many thanks for the nice words words you spent to describe his work, and for the sincere appreciation you had for it.
Our staff is always available on helping our guests to enjoy at best their holiday on the lagoon, and they are are pleased to do this.
Allow me to renew our thanks for your advice: we hope that all our next guests can appreciate their stay as you did.
Best Regards

Just came back from a 3 night stay at the basilea hotel, couldn't ask for more than we paid for, good location, very friendly and helpful staff, very clean and good breakfast, and they allowed us to leave our bags there for the day.For those who moaned about this hotel, remember it's only a 3 star,if you want better maybe you should consider booking a 5 star next time, definitely would stay here again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for sharing your nice review here on our TripAdvisor page: we hope your remarks will be considered by the readers and by the guests who wrote the heaviest criticisms to the hotel.
Effectively, Hotel Basilea offers to its guests a series of qualities that are specific of the three star hotel category: a nice and comfortable location along the Rio Marin, an affordable price compared to other same classified structures, and moreover a friendly and helpful staff (a detail not to be taken for granted) and a carefully cleanness.
We are also very pleased that you appreciated our continental breakfast on the nice hall facing the canal, and the kind possibility to leave for free the luggages in the deposit for the day.
Finally, we are looking forward for your next stay in the beautiful city of Venice, maybe again here at our hotel.
Kind Regards.

We booked this hotel on the quick, not knowing what to expect, and it turned out to be charming. It was only a short walk from the grand Canal, and about 20mins from St Marks. The decor was old fashioned, quaint and very Italian, and comfortable. It is on a small canal, with a charming bridge. The food was as you would expect for a continental breakfast, and the whole place was immaculately clean. the staff were lovely, and allowed us to leave our bags there all day, after we checked out, so we could squeeze an extra day's sightseeing. I would recommend it , and it is good value for where it is.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Basilea. I was expecting not to enjoy our trip having read some negative comments. The staff were friendly (we were too early to check in but the reception staff stowed our bags for us whilst we went exploring) the room, bedding, and bathroom were spotless.
The only negative..... and this is not the fault of the hotel mosquitoes still around in October! Easily sorted take some repellent on your trip. My advice book and enjoy the Basilea's location near the public transport hub and all the sights.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write your enjoyable experience at Hotel Basilea.
Truly appreciated are your comments on our reception staff: everyone try, every day, to satisfy all your needs and to help you with your questions.
Concerning mosquitoes, you surely know that Venice lies on a lagoon, and so we can't do anything for the mosquitoes presence, because they are a unescapable part of the environment: in every case, you should have asked a mosquito repellant to our reception, and we could have providing one for you.
We wish to have you as our welcome guest again, for another pleasant stay here in Venice.
KInd Regards.
