“Great Location”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

Just came back from a 3 night stay at Violino and I have to say it is a wonderful hotel located in the heart of Venice.
We had a corner room (no.203) with a lovely view of the canal. Our room was large, clean and had everything in it that we could ask for.
The location of the hotel is brilliant - its a 2 minute walk straight into St Marks square and with it being on the canal there is a gondola point directly outside the hotel.
We used this service - the ride was lovely however the tour guide could have been in a better mood but hey ho!
Back to the hotel - The staff were lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Our room was cleaned every day and to perfection.
The breakfast was also nice and the pastry's were lovely a fresh - I will miss that smell in the mornings.
All in all I would 100% recommend this hotel. The location was spot on - the staff were friendly and professional - the food was tasty and the price isn't bad either.
Thank you Violino d'Oro for a lovely stay :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - the staff will do as much as they can to accommodate.

A lovely little hotel within just a few minutes walk (and only two bridges) from the San Marco Alilaguna ferry stop from the airport that offers you a warm welcome upon arrival.

The Violino perhaps looks a little tired from the outside - but don't let this put you off. I chose to embrace its bygone charm while watching the hustle and bustle of visitors trying to get a 'best price' from the gondoliers just outside the entrance.

The hotel celebrates its heritage with classic 'heavy' decor, period styled furniture, rich colours and Murino glass.

Our room was clean and comfortable, if basic - but Venice is a city for exploring, not spending hours in a hotel.

There was a lack of easily accessible plug sockets for charging phones/cameras (we just moved a sideboard), but to fall asleep with the windows open listening to the sound of the canal just a few metres below was wonderful.

The bathroom had everything we needed (even if the shower took an age to drain) with a great selection of complimentary toiletries, toothbrushes, shaving kit etc. Never a shortage of hot water, but be careful if you've got the window open if facing the canal - without blinds, you could give people in the hotel opposite an unexpected treat!

Breakfast on the first morning was a bit of a scramble as the hotel was busy, the dining area is small and the tables are tiny - but the buffet selection was lovely, lots of patisserie, fruit, meats, cheeses, bacon, scrambled eggs etc... and the friendly staff will happily bring you an espresso etc to your table (if it's perhaps a little early for a glass of Prosecco from the buffet). Extra points for the couple who came down to breakfast in their PJs :)

The location is fantastic. About five minutes walk from San Marco square, about 30 minutes from the Rialto Bridge and just minutes from two of the Vaporetto stops - buy your 24/48 hour travel pass in advance and the use it just like a London Underground Oyster card, remembering to 'swipe in' at the start of each journey.

A lovely hotel, possible more of a grand B&B as I saw no sign of an evening dinner service, in a great location and very competitive rates. If Razvan is on reception when you check in, smile nicely - you too might get a room upgrade to be overlooking the canal (thanks again).

Very much look forward to a return trip.

We checked into our hotel, the Violino D'Oro (I think that means golden fiddle), without any problems and were unpacking by 3PM. The Violino is a small hotel, located about 2 minutes from St. Marks Square - right on a canal, this old hotel is a real gem with high ceilings, rich furnishings, crown molding, chandeliers and attentive service.
This is the second time we've stayed at this hotel, and this time we have a room overlooking the canal - we'll see how this goes, as there is a gondola service point (the place where people get on and off), right below our window. We opened the windows to enjoy what was going on in the canal below us, We've only been here a few hour but we've already heard most of the classic Italian operas several times over. There is an excellent breakfast included and as many cappuccinos, Latte's etc as you would like during breakfast. When I return to Venice I will stay at this hotel again.
there is also. For Americans, Please note that European hotel rooms to tend to be smaller than what you would find at home in Marriott or Hyatt .

Free WiFi - woo-hoo!

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main building of the hotel.

I would highly recommend this hotel - especially for the price that we paid. The location is a few minutes walk from St Mark's square, making it quite easy to use the inexpensive water taxis to get to and from the airport or train station - and other sites once you figure out how to use them.

The room was nice - we opted for a standard room with the upgrade that included coffee and tea service and complimentary Prosecco in the room so we didn't have a view of the canal but we didn't pay the price either. The only complaint is that the room was quite warm and we couldn't get it cool unless we opened the window - which means we also heard the noise - but it wasn't bad as we were on an alley way not a main walking street.

We found the staff to be super helpful and very pleasant.

We were pleasantly surprised with the breakfast. It was the only "hot" breakfast with scrambled eggs, sautéed veggies, tomatoes with mozzarella etc, etc on our 2+ week stay. It was constantly being refreshed by the staff as the hotel was full and we had breakfast at the rush hour time of 9:30AM two of the days we were there. The day we had a tour booked early the breakfast area was very quiet. It was nice to be able to eat a healthy breakfast for at least a few days on our trip.

It was also just so cool to look out on the gondolas getting ready for the day while eating breakfast.

Don't hesitate to book this hotel!

If you are tall or big (I'm 6'4'' and average weight) you may find the ceiling short and the room small. I really was't in the room too much time but the size was a problem, yes I'm claustrophobic. Hotel is bit on the older side but nice decorated.

Another great hotel booked thorugh Avventure Bellisimo. Awesome location on the canals- a dream come true. Spend the extra money and stay in Venice itself- after the tourists leave you can wander round and feel like it's your own island. Great location and enjoyed being right in the centre of the town. The gondola taxi stand outside was entertaining.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the canal so you can video the gondolas going past and the opera singi...
