“Good hotel, breakfast is a joke”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

The hotel is ideally located and the street noise is bearable with ear plugs. Very old-fashioned rooms and WIFI is not usable in many rooms. Almost no foreign channels, although it says satellite TV. The staff is nice and rooms are very clean. Prices are good for this location and Venice.

Breakfast is a big joke to be honest. Coffee is instant coffee from an old machine (although you can find good coffee for 1€ just next to the hotel), dry cheap bread, the only cheese is the individually processed one that you use for Burgers normally, cheap salami, etc. It is really a letdown and I only took a glass of water in the morning. Otherwise, a good place in Venice.

The location is perfect. Away from the really busy areas but in an area close to all main attractions and with ample services n shops right next door. This is a family owned hotel and it shows. Got a nice personal touch to it all and older generations are always about greeting guests. The bedrooms and bathrooms are basic but adequate. Not a lot of room to move about with cases n luggage. Breakfast is also basic but very adequate. Nice little wine bar next door n heaps of restaurants to choose from.
Definitely a good choice overall

Found the hotel via Trivago and was very pleased with the choice. Having established which boat-taxi stop to get off, I was amazed at just how easy it was to find the hotel. Literally about 100 yards from the Grand Canal and just a few minutes walk to St Marks Square.
The hotel is family run and they are very helpful. The room was more than adequate for our 2 night stay. Ok the bathroom was small but the room itself was fine.
They offer free Wi-Fi in the lobby but I was lucky enough to still pick up a decent signal from my room on the first floor.
There are numerous 'reasonably priced' eateries very close to the hotel.

Location: Excellent location close to St Marks square. Travelling with luggage can be very problematic in a place like Venice which is known for its canals and bridges. However since this hotel is located very close to the water bus stop St Zaccaria, this was not an issue for us.
Staff: Very friendly staff. Helped us with all information about the tourist spots, gondola rides, restaurants etc.
Rooms: Spacious, clean and comfortable overlooking a cute little Venice street. Breakfast provided by the hotel was also very good. Prices are reasonable considering the location. Elevator is another plus point.
Would definitely stay here again.

If you stay in Venice, Hotel Fontana is your place to rest! It has a great location coupled with great hospitality and support of the family who run it. We have stayed there twice, and with no doubt, will stay there again when we go back to beautiful Venice.
The elevator is a also a plus for those who have difficulties with stairs. Their prices are quite reasonable and affordable. Staff are extremely helpful. Very clean and spacious rooms.

Highly recommended!

We've booked Fontana for a 2 nights' stay pre-cruise, mainly because its location on the Alilaguna Blue Line and its affordable price. Turns out it was a brilliant choice.
From the airport directly to the S. Zaccaria stop, and then, we simply couldn't believe it, 3 min walk to the hotel, no steps and no bridges to cross.
This hotel enjoys the benefits of being right in the middle of action, while located in a quite square. 5 min walk to S. Marco, 20 min to Rialto Bridge. We walked everywhere.
The room (for Venice, that's it) and bathroom were very spacious and spotless clean, with a variety of amenities. The breakfast was included and was various and tasty. The staff - very friendly and helpful.
After our short stay, we walked again to the S. Zaccaria stop and took the Alilaguna Blue Line to the ship terminal. Less than half an hour later, we found ourselves right near our ship, no hassle and no fuss, for 8 Euro pp.
Excellent location and stay, what more can u desire? Much recommended.
