We spent 2 nights at Locanda San Barnaba. The location is perfect, away from the crowds. The hotel is easy to find, has great service, and is a beautiful building. Just 100 steps from the Grand Canal and the vaporetto stop, Ca'Rezzonico. Lovely Breakfast, including bread, pastry, croissants, cereal, ham, cheese, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. We enjoyed a Spritz in the afternoon in the Salon. Very close to numerous restaurants. We were able to explore the neighboring squares and shops. I would definitely stay here on a return trip to Venice.

We arrived by car and had made a reservation at Garage San Marco. It was easy to find, once we got to the floor for parking, an attendant parked the car in the small space. It was a short walk to the vaporetto number 1.

Room Tip: We had a superior room on the small canal. The ceiling had a lovely fresco.

This small hotel is just pefect for a trip to Venice!

The nice palazzo is only 200 m from the vaporetto station Ca'Rezzonico and has its own boat pier in case you want to take a private taxi boat directly to the hotel. We stayed in the only ground floor room next to the reception: Large room, very clean, no disturbing noises from the reception. The Italien breakfast was served in the courtyard during our sunny stay. The surrounding area (Dosoduro) is not as touristy as other parts of Venice and you can find nice restaurants and bars within walking distance.

I broke my foot during our stay falling down the stairs of a bridge. The hotel's staff was more then helpful and orgazised everything that was necessary. We will definitely come back.

The only minus: The pictures of the hotel's website. The hotel is much nicer than these pictures suggest.

We had a great stay here. Our room was very large, with a large bathroom, and was spotless, although it could have used better lighting and brighter reading lamps. The common areas were lovely. We absolutely loved the little outdoor courtyard, where we had breakfast everyday, with delicious home-baked croissants. Not a lot of variety in the buffet, but it was fine for us. The courtyard was charming, with little birds flying around, and is right next to a canal, with lots of greenery. When we were sitting there, I just had this wonderful feeling of "this is Italy at its finest." The people who worked at the hotel were all incredibly nice and helpful. The location is perfect - about 100 steps from a vaporetto stop and an Alilaguna stop, which is the vaporetto from the airport. Dorsoduro is a great area, a little bit away from the tourist hordes, but very lively, with easy walking access to wherever you might want to go in Venice. This hotel didn't fall into the "elegant" category, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars but given the reasonable prices, this was expected. The rooms, as mentioned, are very nice, but also a little on the simple side. However, I am very picky about my hotels, and this is a lovely hotel that I would definitely stay in again and would highly recommend. Would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

We recently stayed here on our trip through Europe. We had booked the junior suite with the upstairs loft and the balcony over the canal and also a balcony over the garden. What a wonderful find. Beautiful room, comfortable bed and the balcony over the canal? Wonderful. We would sit out on the balcony with a glass of wine and watch the gondolas pass by underneath. I went and downloaded " O Solo Mio" on my laptop and we would play the music as the gondolas passed underneath. Much applause form the patrons in the gondolas. It can't get much easier to get to this hotel from the airport or train station. The water bus stop Ca Rezzonico (Orange line from the airport or #1 from the train station) is about 100 feet from the hotel. You don't have to pack your bags very far. Don't waste your money on a taxi when you can take the bus for 1/8 the price. The breakfast was great and filling. The sun was out so we ate in the garden. They make very good coffee here. We asked for a bottle of wine to take up to our room when we arrived and it was under 17 Euros which has to be a bargain. Decent wine and all the prices on the room service menu were very reasonable. the location is perfect. No more than a 45 minute walk to almost any place in Venice. There are lots of restaurants around the hotel and there are two plazas behind it with open seating for lunch or an afternoon Prosecco. If I return to Venice this will be the only hotel I would book. So much value and fun for the money.

Room Tip: Step up to the junior suite with the balcony. Well worth the little extra.

We have visited Venice a number of times and had decided that San Barnaba is our favourite square and we had walked past this hotel before in the past and liked the look of it. At short notice we contacted the hotel to see if they had any availability at the beginning of September - and they had! We did have to stay in 3 different rooms over 4 nights but they were all individual, large and well appointed and the staff moved us whilst we were out in the day. I think on balance we preferred the first - a standard - room we stayed in, accessible by a steep staircase that made it feel more secluded, but it was quite wonderful also to spend a couple of nights in the room with the fresco's and the balconies over the canal - waving to the gondoliers as they went past.

The hotel is close (steps away) to the orange Aliguna stop from the airport, so transfers were easy without bankrupting us paying for water taxis.

Everything about service and breakfast has been said before and we found to be correct. The salon was very grand with frescos and furniture and stainglass windows - stunning.

The Dosodoro part of Venice is our favourite part with resteraunts and ice cream and aperitivo and canals without the crush of people you can get in the San Marco area in summer.

Overall, simply, our stay in Venice was made by staying in this hotel and we will come back again.

Room Tip: We found all the rooms we were in were good large sized rooms

My husband and I were on vacation.
This place was a charm for many reasons:
The staff was very nice and very helpful.
The room was cleaned and very comfortable.
The breakfast was good, and it was enjoyable to sit out on the terrace.
We loved the location of this B&B as it was 50 steps down an alley from the vaporetto stop. So, at night when we were exhausted and got off the stop we didn't have to walk forever to our place.
We loved being right next to an active and relaxing little piazza (50 steps the other direction).
We had beer there every late afternoon and there was a comfortable and stimulating environment.
It was very quiet.
I would recommend this place to any friends visiting Venice as a perfect and lovely place to stay.

We spent 9 days here in August and had a wonderful holiday. Locanda San Barnaba has a great location in Dorsoduro only 2 minutes walk from the Ca'Rezzonico vaporetto stop. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants nearby and we especially enjoyed our spritz aperol each evening in Campo San Barnaba. Our large room on the first floor overlooked the garden and had very good air conditioning which coped with the high temperatures. The hotel is elegantly decorated and our room was off the salone on the first floor. We enjoyed our plentiful breakfast each morning in the garden, which looks on to a canal. There were both sweet and savoury items such as cheese, eggs, ham, croissants, cereal, yogurts etc . We really appreciated the lovely cappuccino freshly made for us. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we look forward to staying with them again on our next visit. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and the district of Dorsoduro in which to stay.

An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
